Amazon releases all 14 original series pilots for free

We heard back in December that Amazon would be releasing a slew of pilot episodes for the company’s original series initiative in order to compete with Netflix. It turns out that there are 14 pilot episodes in total, and all of them are available now for streaming for free. Amazon will be accepting viewer feedback to narrow the pack down to just a handful of shows.

We’ve already heard about a couple of them in the past, one being a Zombieland original series, as well as a geek-oriented comedy called Betas. Both pilots of these shows are available now, as well as 12 other shows split between the comedy genre and children’s variety. The six children’s shows include Annebots, Creative Galaxy, Positively Ozitively, Sara Solves It, Teeny Tiny Dogs, and Tumbleaf.

As for the remaining comedies not already mentioned, there’s Alpha House, Browsers, Dark Minions, Onion News Empire, Supanatural, and Those Who Can’t. You can watch all 14 episodes right now, but you’ll need an Amazon Prime account if you don’t have one already. You’ll get free two-day shipping, as well as access to Amazon Instant Video.

As for how many shows Amazon wants to begin producing, it seems that the company’s goal is to get half of the 14 shows currently available ordered up for a full season of about 13 episodes each. However, there’s no set number that Amazon has decided on, and it could turn out that even less than seven shows end up getting picked, so be sure to submit your feedback if you want to see the episodes you like continue on.

BBC America has first 'intweet branded video' deal for a TV series

Now that Twitter Music has been revealed there will be more anticipation of potential TV integration, and it appears BBC America will be among the first to participate. The network, which is owned both by BBC Worldwide (the Beeb’s commercial arm) and Discovery Communications, sent out a tweet say it’s signed up to “offer 1st in-Tweet branded video synced to entertainment TV series.” Its Tumblr page promises details to come, however so far there have been no further updates. We were told by the network that the deal has “literally just been signed”, and to expect more info in the coming weeks. This sounds similar to the deals with Viacom and NBC that were rumored a few days ago, but what shape this may all take by the time it arrives remains to be seen.

Forget music halls — Twitter thinks morning TV talk shows are where it’s at for product announcements. It used The Today Show last year to unveil a profile page redesign, and we now know it will rely on Good Morning America this Thursday to unveil something… “big.” But what does that cryptic clue mean? While logic would suggest Twitter Music given its semi-official status, we could also see TV in expanded tweets or something entirely unexpected. We’ll keep our eyes (and possibly ears) open.

Microsoft reportedly looking to revive 'Heroes' TV show on MSNXbox

It may not be remembered quite as well as Arrested Development, but it looks like Microsoft is aiming to bring back another big network TV show on a service that’s decidedly outside the bounds of traditional TV. According to TV Line, that show is Heroes, which was cancelled by NBC in 2010 after a four-year run, and the video service is MSN (itself part of Microsoft’s broader push into original programming for Xbox). While the talks for Heroes are still said to be preliminary, the revived show would apparently focus on new characters and stories, with some of the original cast only making cameos in the new series. Of course, this wouldn’t be the first time that Heroes found its way onto an Xbox 360: the show was one of the few series to be released on HD DVD, and briefly found its way into some bundles with Microsoft’s HD DVD player add-on for the console.

BBC Worldwide offers firstrun TV to Australia through a premium Foxtel channel

Australians have long had access to the BBC, although a current four-channel lineup on Foxtel won’t completely satisfy fans of British TV when it’s just a sliver of the content they know. BBC Worldwide should be closing some of that (figurative) distance, though, with plans to offer a premium channel through Foxtel’s network. The as-yet-unnamed service will give Aussies a chance at first-run BBC shows about a year before they’d broadcast over the air there. and without ads. (Pretty good for not having a UK TV license.) The BBC content will naturally be available in HD, as well as for mobile streaming through Foxtel Go. About the only drawback to the channel outside of its premium nature is the mid-2014 start date, but that may be a small sacrifice for determined Anglophiles and ex-pats.

Facebook brings Rovi’s entertainment info database to your profile

Facebook has just partnered up with Rovi Corporation to bring more detailed information regarding the movies, TV shows, and celebrities to its social network. This new partnership will give application developers the option to incorporate Rovi’s services into their apps, so that they can provide seamless integration between their apps and the entertainment database provided by Rovi to create a more “connected experience for consumers”.

Another one of Rovi’s features, Rovi IDs, can also be linked to Facebook Page IDs, so Rovi subscribers can connect to Facebook content when they’re looking up their shows or movies. This new partnership will increase the social aspect of media entertainment. Ime Archibong, Manager of Platform Partnerships at Facebook, says that in the next couple of years, social interaction with movies, TV shows and other forms of entertainment will “grow immensely”.

This new partnership will also help Facebook achieve one of its main goals; ad revenue. Facebook will be able to utilized targeted advertisements by evaluating its users use of Rovi’s entertainment database. Generating revenue is a main driver for Facebook’s way of doing things. In the past, Facebook had also tried to tempt game developers to create games for the social network in order to attract more gamers to its service. It also launched a program where users could message celebrities for a fee.

Rovi offers many, valuable services, including, entertainment data, content protection, industry standard networking, and media management technology for digital entertainment devices and services. While Rovi may not be well known, its services are highly coveted. Last year, Google licensed Rovi’s interactive program guide patent portfolio for set-top boxes, online platforms and mobile platforms. Google used its services to enhance its Fiber TV services.

Mitsubishi Electric is releasing 2 new models of its LCD TV “Real LaserVue” series in late May. Both feature a red/blue/green laser backlight for more vivid and higher quality images.

We saw a 55 inch previous version last year.

Bluetooth compliant devices can connect to the TVs wirelessly to play music. Both blu-ray disk drive and hard disk (1TB) are built-in. They are capable of recording full HD movies for max 12 hours and 3D content is viewable (3D glasses need to be purchased separately).

To increase viewing enjoyment, Mitsubishi Electric has the following “Raku Raku Assist (Easy Assist)” functions built into the new models:
– “Oto Hakkiri (Clear Sound)” function that outputs clear sound even when sounds is turned down low
– “Shaberu TV (Talking TV)” where the TV reads aloud letters showing on the screen
– “Auto Turn” that controls the angle of the screen by remote control and so on.

Twitter reportedly in talks to add video clips from Viacom, NBC

Now that Twitter has very tentatively launched Music integration, Bloomberg is reporting its next media target is TV. According to unnamed sources, Twitter is “close” to cutting deals to integrate video clips into the timeline, and sell advertising next to them. As we’ve seen with the new Cards it revealed earlier this month, bringing in more content about what users are discussing is key to its new strategy, and short TV clips fits into that idea perfectly. The report claims the first deal could be struck as soon as next month, with the possibility of other networks following afterward. Also playing into the strategy is its purchase of Bluefin Labs in February. Bluefin’s focus is tracking how much users talk about particular TV shows, and Twitter claimed at the time that it sought to “create innovative new ad products and consumer experiences in the exciting intersection of Twitter and TV.” Think that fits?

Seiki 4K TV Priced at $1,500If you think that your spanking new Full HD TV is the bee’s knees (at least in your neighborhood at this point in time), might we point your attention to what could very well be the next big thing? Yes sir, I am referring to Seiki’s 4K TV set which has finally appeared, coupled with a price tag that should bring more than a smile – in fact, it ought to result in a full blown grin on your face, considering how this 50” 4K TV set will cost a relatively affordable $1,500.

This particular 50” Ultra HD (which is another fancy name for 4K of course) TV set will be shipping to the US on an official basis later this month, where you are able to pick it up from the likes of TigerDirect, Amazon and QVC, among others. I would assume if you are a family man and have just upgraded your TV in the living room last year or early this year, it is going to be quite a challenge to convince the missus that Seiki’s latest release would be your last purchase for this year.
