Twelve South Surface Pad iPhone Case: Sticks to Your Phone, No Joke!

iPhone cases are necessary in order to ensure that your precious iPhone doesn’t all scratched up. I’ve had a couple of friends who weren’t using any cases end up with a completely scratched up iPhone. While Twelve South’s earlier BookBook case had an interesting look to it – it was a bit thick for practical use. This new iPhone case from Twelve South is called the Surface Pad, and it’s much thinner than the BookBook case.

It’s made from Napa leather, and it’s lightweight and just 1.7mm thick, meaning that it will easily fit into most pockets without bulking up your phone.

The Surface Pad is supposed to stick to your iPhone thanks to a removable  reusable adhesive substance, and it’s supposed to wrap around your iPhone, protecting both the front and the back.

The case can also be used as a stand in landscape mode, which is also a handy feature. The SurfacePad sells for $34.99(USD) from Twelve South, and is available now.

Twelve South Announces Surface Pad iPhone Case

Twelve South Announces Surface Pad iPhone CaseIf you’re not a fan of bulky iPhone cases, Twelve South has unveiled the Surface Pad iPhone case which is sort of like a much thinner version of its BookBook case. Made from Napa leather, the company claims that it is credit card thin which means that it should fit into most pockets (unless you’re wearing exceptionally tight pants!) and we expect that it will be sufficient at protecting your shiny iOS device from scratches as well. The interesting thing is that unlike cases which kind of snaps onto your iPhone, the Surface Pad will instead stick to your iPhone via an adhesive substance and will basically wrap itself around your device, thus protecting both the front and the back. We have to admit that we like the way it looks – it looks sleek, elegant and to a certain degree, even professional. The case itself can even be bent in a way that allows it to prop your iPhone up in landscape, letting you watch movies at a comfortable angle. Available in three colors, it is priced at $34.99 and is available via Twelve South’s website.

BookBook for iPhone 5 now shipping, rear camera hole and all (hands-on)

BookBook for iPhone 5 now shipping, rear camera hole and all handson

It took a little longer than some of those other cases, but Twelve South‘s BookBook for iPhone 5 is now shipping en masse. Some of those who pre-ordered began receiving their units as early as last week, but if you missed that wave, there’s no need to gesture for the panic button. The outfit’s newest wallet / iPhone case is actually more than just a resized version of the prior one; indeed, it finally figured out how to add a rear camera hole without worry of flash echo, and there’s a new snap-in mechanism that holds your phone in place. The clever exterior remains largely the same, and there’s still room for your most important IDs and credit cards as you flip it open. We were pretty big fans of the prior build, but the addition of the camera hole makes this one a no-brainer for fans of the style. The gallery below is completely free to peruse — those who hit the source link, however, will be asked to fork over $59.99 to get one of their own.

Twelve South BookBook iPhone Case Review: This Book Is Thick But Useful

iPhones can take plenty of abuse, but they get scratched up pretty quickly, which is one of the reasons why cases are necessary. Unlike some, I prefer to keep my phone in as good condition as possible, so when I inevitably upgrade and resell it, I get maximum value. The BookBook case from Twelve South is an interesting idea, since it combines a protective iPhone case with a wallet.

The BookBook case is nicely designed, and fits the iPhone 4 and 4S well. There are 3 slots for credit cards and ID cards, as well as a small slip pocket for some cash. The best thing about this case is that it keeps your iPhone screen scratch-free. Unless you are very diligent in always storing your iPhone in a pocket with nothing else, it will eventually get scratched up. Thanks to its phone pocket and folding cover, this case stops this from happening. The case can also be put inside a bag or purse without any problems.

Personally, I like my cases minimal and simple, but when I was offered this case for review, it made me wonder if that’s really what I wanted. For me, it’s not the best fit due to its bulk. The book-like cover is a cute idea, but the overall design makes the phone a lot thicker than it needs to be. That said, if you’re looking to travel light, it does combine wallet and phone case, and that’s all some people need when they go out clubbing.

With a list price of $59.99 (USD), the BookBook is one of the more expensive iPhone cases I’ve seen. In fact, it’s close in price to some of the waterproof cases that I’ve been looking at. That said, it’s reasonably priced if you take into account the cost of both a case and a wallet.

The BookBook case is available over at Twelve South in either brown or black leather. You can also find the case At TiG on sale for just $21 right now.

Twelve South HiRise: Lift Your MacBook up in Style

While my MacBook Pro 17 is off most days, and I’m used to having desktop PC at home to get stuff done, I could definitely use a nice stand to prop up my laptop when I do use it. The Twelve South HiRise for MacBook is a sleek, polished stand that *ahem* stands out in the crowd.

The HiRise will work for MacBooks from 11″ to 15″, so it wouldn’t work for my larger laptop. The stand is adjustable, allowing you to raise or lower your MacBook’s keyboard and display to match the height of your eyes. You can adjust the stand from as low as 2 inches up to 6 inches.

If you’re using an external monitor, the HiRise helps you get the MacBook’s screen to the same level as the Thunderbird display, so you can use them side-by-side without constantly having to move your head up and down. Still, I prefer something that hides away the laptop completely to make room for the external monitor, but for a dual-display setup, it’s kind of cool.

The HiRise sells for $69.99(USD) directly from Twelve South and is available now.

Twelve South introduces HiRise for MacBook stand, shipping now for $70

Twelve South introduces HiRise for MacBook stand, shipping now for $70

Hot on the heels of its HiRise for iMac release, the Mac-only accessory maker known as Twelve South is outing a similar riser for MacBook products. Engineered to hoist MacBooks from 11 to 15 inches up off of one’s table, the HiRise for MacBook is a sleek, polished stand that serves a purpose much like the mStand from Rain Design. For avid MacBook users looking for a more ergonomic way to work, this is easily one of the best solutions out there. Unlike most rivals, Twelve South’s offering is adjustable, allowing you to raise and lower your MacBook’s keyboard and display to match the height of your eyes (or perhaps a nearby monitor). In our testing, we found the build quality to be exceptional, and it’s most certainly a piece that you’d be pleased to have sitting alongside your other work peripherals. It’s a bit heavy for travel — but then again, you can’t have that base being light enough to tip over — but those still interested can nab one at the source link for $69.99.

Twelve South’s HiRise Stand For MacBook Provides Height-Adjustable Notebook Elevation

twelve-south-hirise-macbook

If you have a notebook Mac and you use it both in an office and on the road, you probably know by now that having it at a comfortable viewing angle when in the office is key to the long-term health of your spine and posture. There are many stands out there to help you get those MacBooks up off the desk, but a new one from Twelve South seems to offer a much more flexible solution compared to most, thanks to fully adjustable height.

The Twelve South HiRise offers a spring-loaded central post that can lift your MacBook between 2-6 inches above your desktop surface, with height you can dial in to match the level of additional secondary monitors, or to make sure that if you’re taller or shorter you can find the right level for your own neck and back comfort. With my setup, I’ve got adjustable mount arms for external displays so I end up moving those down to match my MacBook Pro on the mStand by Rain Design (another very capable notebook stand), but being able to also change the height of the MacBook would be a very welcome addition, especially since it sits at the center of my desk and commands the majority of my attention.

The HiRise is priced at $70, and can be ordered from Apple’s online store and Twelve South directly. Like other notebook stands, it also provides good ventilation for the underside of your notebook Mac, and it’s designed to be easily spun side-to-side to allow for changing the horizontal viewing angle. The only potential downside I can see is that it uses grippy pads exclusively to hold your MacBook in place (the mStand has feet at the front to prevent the computer from ever sliding forward), but I’ll reserve judgement on whether that actually constitutes a weakness until I get some hands-on quality time. Even with that caveat, the HiRise looks like a great option overall, especially for office or home office workers looking for a way to better address chronic back and neck pain.

Twelve South HiRise takes iMacs and Apple displays to new heights, tidies up in the process

Twelve South HiRise takes iMacs and Apple Displays to new heights, tidies up in the process

Many of those who buy iMacs and Apple-designed displays are eager to avoid clutter in the first place, which makes an organizer all the more logical for those who’d like Desk Zero almost as much as Inbox Zero. Accessory maker Twelve South’s newly available HiRise aims to clean it all up — and lift it up. The aluminum-and-steel frame elevates Apple’s modern all-in-ones and screens to any one of six points while conveniently leaving storage space that goes with the local computing decor, whether it’s to hold external hard drives or car keys. Although the HiRise is no trivial expense at $80, it’s better for propping up an iMac than an old college textbook, and arguably more useful as a whole.

The Twelve South HiRise Looks Like A Mac Pro Mini, Is Actually An iMac Stand And Storage Locker

HiRiseiMac_3qtr_gallerymain

In the cut-throat world of desk organization, style often trumps functionality. In the case of Twelve South’s HiRise, style meets functionality. See what I did there?

The HiRise is a little storage locker designed to sit under an iMac or Cinema Display. The front panel folds down, revealing an adjustable shelf and storage space large enough for even a Mac Mini. But that shelf — oh, Twelve South is so clever — allows the HiRise to display an iMac at the same height as a Cinema Display.

Clever or not, the HiRise is a bit pricey at $79.99. However, it fixes the common complaints about the iMac in that it sits too low and doesn’t naturally match the height of a Cinema Display. So rather than resorting to propping up an iMac with a phone book or reams of paper, iMac owners now have stylish and functional solution in the HiRise.

The HiRise is available now from TwelveSouth.com. It’s compatible with all Apple Displays and iMacs that use the L-shaped stand.

Twelve South’s BackPack 2 for the iMac/Cinema Display looks pretty convenient

There are accessories out there for our computers and phones and tablets which might not be necessary, but will add a whole lot of convenience if we did have it. This is what Twelve South’s BackPack 2 seems to aim for especially for iMac users and for those who own Apple’s Cinema Displays. As you can see in the image above, the BackPack 2 is an aluminum stand that will rest above the stand of your iMac/Cinema Display. This allows users to place their iPhones or external hard drives there while connected to the ports at the back. While we’ve yet to try this out for ourselves, we can imagine how convenient it might be especially on a cluttered table. Alternatively we don’t see why the BackPack 2 can’t be used to place keys, coins or even your wallet to make sure that it is right in front of you so you don’t forget them on the way out! If you think the BackPack 2 has some use to you, you will be able to pick one up for yourself at Twelve South’s website for $34.99, where additional details and uses of the BackPack 2 can also be found.
