Ubisoft foresees a rise in Wii U sales

Xavier Poix, the managing director of Ubisoft France’s studios, stated that he isn’t disappointed in the Wii U’s current struggling sales. He believes that Nintendo’s Wii U just needs more time to appeal to consumers. With the addition of new, more popular titles, and with more consumers warming up to the idea of the Wii U’s gamepad, Poix believes that Wii U sales will become more successful.

Ubisoft not disappointed with Wii U sales

Poix currently manages 3 Ubisoft studios and a variety of popular gaming franchises, including Just Dance, Ghost Recon, and the much delayed Rayman. He stated that Ubisoft likes to start development on newly launched gaming platforms, like the Wii U, because doing so will help it grab much more sales in the long run. Also, with new gaming platforms, Ubisoft is free to experiment with new games, like ZombiU, that has no ties with its currently popular game franchises.

Poix believes that the main setback for Wii U sales is the gamepad. He says that the “new controller would be something harder to convey than the Wii,” but that people just need to adapt to the idea of the gamepad and the innovation it can bring to console gaming. He says,

“For our games we really wanted to show the innovation. In ZombiU for instance, the players are really fond of the multiplayer mode because it’s totally new; it’s like one FPS player against an RTS player. We pushed the limits of that so it can be a real gameplay challenge to look at two screens.”

Poix also believes that the Wii U just needs more “system-selling” games. The Wii U is still fresh, so he believes that once more developers push out games from their popular franchises, the Wii U’s sales will rise rapidly. Poix says that Ubisoft is expecting its upcoming Rayman Legends game to be one of those system-sellers. He says,

“We know from the fans that the majority of what will be the system sellers are not yet available. And on our side, Rayman will be one of them for sure. We really expect Rayman to be a huge system seller on the console.”

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag gameplay trailer released

We heard back in February that the next Assassin’s Creed title would be arriving sometime in the future, and earlier this month developer Ubisoft confirmed that Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag would be the next installment in the series. Finally, the first gameplay trailer for the game has been released, and it gives gamers an idea of what they’ll be in for.

Assassins-Creed-IV-Black-Flag-trailer-prematurely-leaked1

We saw the official launch trailer earlier when the game was confirmed, but that specific trailer was nothing more than cutscenes. This time around, we get to see actual in-game footage. The trailer features our new assassin, Edward, and his adventures on the high seas. We get to see a lot of action, including some underwater scenes, as well as the expected cannon shootouts with enemy ships.

Of course, we saw some leaked screenshots earlier this month that hint at what to expect from the game, but it’s nice to finally see the game in action. The graphics look pretty great, and the detail is quite outstanding. The underwater scenes look especially good, and we’re guessing those will be a huge hit when the game eventually releases.

The game will launch on the PS3, Xbox 360, PC, and the Nintendo Wii U on October 29 in the US, with the UK getting it on November 1, and the rest of Europe getting access on October 31. The game will also launch on PS4, but no release date has been determined for that version. Furthermore, if Microsoft ends up announcing its next-generation gaming console at some point this year, we should expect the new Assassin’s Creed installment to be available on that console as well.

Splinter Cell: Blacklist Video Highlights ‘Ghost’, ‘Panther’ and ‘Assault’ Play Styles

Splinter Cell: Blacklist may have been delayed until August 20, but that just gives Ubisoft more time to tease us with additional information and gameplay videos of the game in action.

A new 8-minute long gameplay video was released today by Ubisoft that takes us on a guided tour with Splinter Cell: Blacklist’s game director, Patrick Redding. The video takes Sam Fisher through an abandoned mill showing multiple routes and additional methods he can take to make his way through. Three gameplay styles will be at your disposal in Blacklist: Ghost, Panther and Assault. (more…)

Assassin’s Creed 4 Being Developed By Nearly 1000 People Across 7 Studios

Assassins Creed 4 Being Developed By Nearly 1000 People Across 7 Studios

There’s no doubt Ubisoft’s upcoming Assassin’s Creed 4 is already a highly-anticipated game even after being announced just a few weeks ago. We know we can expect there to be a lot of pirates, naval combat and even a healthy dose of whaling. With how much content we can already expect in the game, it’s no wonder to hear Ubisoft is tapping seven different studios to help create the game.

Yes – you read that right. Ubisoft has seven different development studios helping with Assassin’s Creed 4. The company usually had one rather large team within one studio handling all of the work for the next Assassin’s Creed game. Assassin’s Creed 4 will be developed by Ubisoft Montreal, Kiev, Quebec and Signapore, who will handle the game’s main campaign. Ubisoft Sofia will handle the modern day scenarios, while Ubisoft Annecy and Bucharest will work on the game’s multiplayer.

Having several studios working together to produce an Assassin’s Creed game will hopefully result in a memorable game when it’s released later this year. Which reminds me, I really need to play through Assassin’s Creed 3 if I’m ever to keep up with what goes on in Assassin’s Creed 4.

Ubisoft Responds To PETA’s Outrage Over Whaling Feature In Assassin’s Creed 4

Ubisoft Responds To PETAs Outrage Over Whaling Feature In Assassins Creed 4The other day we reported that PETA took offense to the whaling feature in Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Fag. Ubisoft has since released a statement in response to PETA’s protest and speaking to the folks at Polygon, Ubisoft’s senior PR manager, Stone Chin, they basically stated that while they do not condone the act of whaling, the setting of the whole Assassin’s Creed franchise is based around history (to a certain extent) so for them to include acts such as whaling is congruent with that period in time.

“History is our playground in Assassin’s Creed. Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag is a work of fiction that depicts the real events during the golden era of pirates. We do not condone illegal whaling, just as we don’t condone a pirate lifestyle of poor hygiene, plundering, hijacking ships, and over-the legal-limit drunken debauchery.”

PETA’s Matt Bruce however thought differently and was quoted as saying, “There are so many creative minds at Ubisoft that are involved with the Assassin’s Creed series that we find it really disappointing that they feel the need to glorify whaling […] PETA encourages video game companies to create games that celebrate animals, not games that promote hurting and killing them.”  In any case both parties have made their statements and it does not look like Ubisoft will be making any changes anytime soon.

First Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag Multiplayer Details Revealed

First Assassins Creed 4: Black Flag Multiplayer Details RevealedWith Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag, the game will be introducing a new pirate theme and while that’s great for pirate fans out there, we’re sure that there are some gamers who are more curious about the multiplayer experience and what they can expect from Ubisoft’s upcoming game. Thanks to an internal Q&A with creative director Jean Guesdon (via AllGamesBeta), it seems that the multiplayer experience in Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag will be something of a death match where players choose from a variety of characters and battle each other. According to the description, it reads, “Fight against or cooperate with your friends in the ruthless and acclaimed multiplayer experience. Choose from an eclectic cast of characters and fight to the death in exotic themed maps.”

Unfortunately the specifics were not shared, but we’re guessing that this will revealed in detail at a later date, but hopefully it will be enough to provide fans with a rough idea of what to expect. Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag will be released on the 31st of October 2013 for current-gen consoles, the PC as well as next-gen consoles. The debut trailer can be seen here while screenshots of the game can also be found here.

PETA Not Pleased With Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag’s Whaling Feature

PETA Not Pleased With Assassins Creed 4: Black Flags Whaling FeatureJust yesterday screenshots from Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag were released online and gave players a glimpse into the game. One of the screenshots even pictured a whale, hinting at the enormity of the game and it was later revealed that players were allowed to participate in a bit of whaling, which is basically the hunting of whales using harpoons. Since this is merely a game, it’s safe to say that no actual harm was inflicted on animals, not by the players at least, but it would seem that PETA would have none of it, virtual or otherwise.

In a statement made out to Venture Beat, PETA basically expressed their dissatisfaction at the concept of whaling even though it is done in a game. They claim that the fact that it is in a game “glorifies” the concept of whaling, a practice which is still going on today despite many protests against it. We guess PETA does raise a valid point on the topic of glorifying such an act, but it is unclear as to how Ubisoft will react to it and if they have plans to remove the whaling feature from the game. What do you guys think? Is PETA overreacting or do you think that their statement is justified?

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag screenshots leak

It’s been quite the week for Ubisoft, who finally confirmed Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag last week and announced some more details earlier this morning, but the announcements ultimately got away from the developer, as information was being leaked left and right. However, even after most of the details have finally become official, more info about the game is still being leaked, including these screenshots.

AC45

These leaked screenshots give you more of a glimpse inside the new game, so if you’re were slightly disappointed by the teaser trailer, which consisted of all cutscenes and no actual gameplay, these screenshots may quench your Assassin’s Creed thirst. While the screenshots don’t feature actual gameplay footage, they offer some details that we haven’t heard before.

AC44

Specifically, we see that whales may be a focal point in the game, according to several previews which mention the ability to harpoon the creatures. We also get a look at some of the scenery in the game, including the forest and the villages. Plus, it looks like waters won’t be calm at all in the game, according to the screenshot of the two ships.

Overall, though, the style and the feel of the game doesn’t appear to get away from the traditional Assassin’s Creed style that we’ve known and loved throughout the past three installments of the series, but since there’s a new protagonist with a new time period and setting, it’ll be interesting to see how the game plays out.

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag confirmed for October 29 launch

The announcement of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag definitely got away from Ubisoft quickly, after details were leaked a couple of weeks ago, and then the release date and the teaser trailer leaked out within just a couple of days of each other. It’s been a mess for Ubisoft, but at last, all the details are confirmed and finalize, save for a couple of things.

Assassins-Creed-IV-Black-Flag-trailer-prematurely-leaked

Earlier this morning, Ubisoft announced the rest of the details for the new game, including the release date, which is set for October 29 in the US and the UK on November 1, with the rest of Europe getting it on Halloween. The official trailer was also released today, which includes a lot of cutscenes and doesn’t feature a lot of gameplay.

Obviously, this is the same trailer that leaked over the weekend, so if you’ve seen the leaked trailer, there’s nothing new to report on that front. However, Ubisoft has confirmed that Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag will be coming to the PS4 in time for the holiday season. However, the PS4 version of the game does not have a release date yet, since Sony still has yet to announce the launch of the console itself.

Other than that, the game will launch on the PS3, Xbox 360, PC, and the Nintendo Wii U on October 29. Furthermore, if Microsoft does end up announcing its next-generation gaming console at E3 in June, with a launch date sometime before the holidays, then we should expect the new Assassin’s Creed installment to be available on that console as well.
