Can Portland Fix a Building That Pretty Much Everyone Despises?

Can Portland Fix a Building That Pretty Much Everyone Despises?

It’s basically a Portlandia sketch: What if a city held a rally to save a building in trouble and no one came? As part of our series Preservation Battle, we look at significant structures at a crossroads, and today we’re examining Portland, Oregon’s very-endangered—yet almost-universally-hated—Portland Building.

Apple's Dumbest, Sloppiest iOS 7 Screwups, Collected in One Tumblr

So it’s come to this. We knew iOS 7 had some dumb and frustrating imperfections, but hadn’t scoured every bit of it for flaws in the small details that Apple used to nail. Well, some industrious design head has given Apple’s new OS a proper fisking, and put all the screwups on a Tumblr. This might be what finally kills Jesus Diaz.

Ugly Models Agency: Because Beauty Is in the Eye of the Beholder

It’s about time someone went ahead and created a modeling agency for unusual looking or not-so-very appealing people. In other words, I guess you could consider them physically ugly on some levels.

No, in case you’re wondering, I’m not kidding, because the Ugly Models Agency is very real and is actually representing a number of very ugly unusual-looking people.

Ugly People Modeling AgencyBeauty is subjective and oftentimes, it’s judged only skin-deep. While the people on this agency’s roster aren’t too pretty on the outside (and how can they be, with the poses and expressions they’re comically wearing on their faces?), I think it’s worth saying that they’re most probably very nice and very beautiful people on the inside.

ugly models too

Even if they might not have the most conventionally appealing looks, at least we all know they have a good sense of humor. If they didn’t, I doubt they’d actually go and get themselves represented by said agency in the first place.

The Ugly Modeling Agency specializes in casting unusual looks for TV, movies, print, video and other media, and has been featured on National Geographic’s show Taboo.

Verizon’s Galaxy Note II purportedly poses for the camera, over-branding included

Verizon's Galaxy Note 2 purportedly poses for the camera, over-branding included

Phablet lovers on Verizon may have reason to rejoice, because the carrier’s variant of the Galaxy Note II may have been captured in the flesh. The white device is aesthetically identical to the version straight from Samsung’s house, save for its questionable carrier-branding. While the back of the phone sports a seemingly legit “Verizon 4G LTE” logo along with its moniker, you’ll notice a rather obnoxiously-planted “Verizon” logo on its home button — perhaps a bit too ridiculous to be the real deal. That said, it’s almost certain that the Note II will officially make it to Verizon, no matter if it’s dressed like the photos above or not; this purported variant lines up nicely with screenshots leaked earlier this week showing AT&T and Verizon compatibility. Now, if only we could have further confirmation — perhaps in the way of a second visit to the FCC in the near feature or some leaky memos.

Sony and Simon Cowell intro X-Factor-themed MDR-X10, celebrity headphones officially jump the shark for $300

Sony and Simon Cowell intro XFactorthemed MDRX10, celebrity headphones officially jump the shark for $300

We’re still wrapping our heads around this, but Sony and Simon Cowell have officially decided to join the celebrity-endorsed headphone bandwagon. Dubbed as the MDR-X10, the X-Factor-themed cans are certainly late to the party, but the vibrant red and silver color theme will ensure they get noticed — and we’re not saying that’s a good thing. $300 snags you the extra-sparkly circumaural earmuffs, an even more sparkly case and a duo of flat, tangle-resistant locking cables (one of which features a “made for iDevice” inline remote and mic). Unsurprisingly, the X10 is geared toward pumping out gobs of bass, being essentially a re-badge of the likes of Sony’s XB800 from its Extra Bass headphone lineup. We had the opportunity to give Cowell’s new headgear a fair amount of listening time, so jump past the break where we’ll judge its brief audition.
