Portable Clamp-On Sun Umbrella provides adequate shade all the time

portable-clamp-on-umbrellaI know that during the summer months, there is nothing quite like the feeling of letting the sun’s warmth and light bathe your entire body, especially after one has gone through an extremely miserable and cold winter. Well, getting sunlight all over your body is fine and all, but there is a risk of overdoing it. For those who feel that they prefer to remain under the sun, but not having its rays shine directly on their bodies, here is the $39.95 Portable Clamp-On Sun Umbrella that offers adequate shade from the sun’s rays.

The Portable Clamp-On Sun Umbrella does as it is named, being able to clamp onto majority of the furniture frames out there, being able to provide just about any angle of sun protection. It also boasts of a sturdy nylon/glass filament, rubber-lined clamp that will be able to secure itself swiftly to both tubular and square outdoor furniture frames. It does not matter if it is faced with patio chairs, beach loungers, picnic tables, and portable camp chairs, it does all of those without an issue.

Morella Adds a Cup Holder to Your Umbrella

Picture this: you’re on your way to work with your briefcase in one hand and  a cup of coffee on the other. Suddenly, the skies go dark and it starts raining cats and dogs. You reach for your umbrella and then you realize you have to get rid of something because you aren’t exactly born with three hands. Sadly, it’s the coffee that ultimately has to go…

Solving this problem are Andrew Tan, Mike Elam, Jordan Schlipf and their Morella.

It’s essentially a cup holder that attaches to the handle of your umbrella. It’s got a gimbal mechanism to ensure that your cups always stay level and don’t spill. That way, you can carry your drink (and even an extra one!) while holding your umbrella with one hand and whatever else you need to carry in the other.

The cool part about it is that you can use it with umbrellas that are in use (as in the picture) or closed, so you can just stick your umbrella into the ground and transform it into a drink stand.

Morella is currently up for funding on Kickstarter, where a minimum pledge of £10 (~$16 USD) will get you both a single cup and a double cup Morella.

Remember: With Morella, you’ll be able to do more-ella with your umbrella! (Was it that bad? Sorry, I couldn’t resist!)

Lightsaber Umbrella’s

Lightsaber umbrellaThis is yet another item you must add to your Star Wars collection. A lightsaber umbrella is perfect for the rainy days of spring. You can choose between three different sabers (or umbrella’s if you prefer to call them that). If you are feeling a little Jedi during the rain, you can choose either the Yoda or Obi-Wan. Yoda has a green shaft while Obi-Wan has a blue shaft, both have the Jedi insignia on the umbrella. If you not feeling the Jedi love that day, you can always choose the Darth Vader version the difference being it has a red shaft and the Imperial insignia on the umbrella. Which ever one you choose, you will certainly feel a little more powerful over the rain than those other guys walking around without an umbrella.

Packable Three-Person Umbrella ensures everyone remains nice and dry

3person-umbrellaThey say that two’s company, and three’s a crowd. However, when it is pouring cats and dogs, nobody is going to claim that three’s a crowd if there is only one umbrella to use in the vicinity. The thing is, most umbrellas are way too small to fit in three humans underneath, unless we are talking about hobbits and dwarves. Carrying around a golf umbrella also does not make too much sense at all, so why not settle for something that is prim and proper – with the $34.95 Packable Three-Person Umbrella in tow?

The Packable Three-Person Umbrella is special in a sense where this three-person umbrella is not bulky when not in use, where it will be able to retract to just 22″ in length and sports a 2.5” diameter, making it a snap to carry around whenever you travel. The 58” diameter vented nylon canopy and its 40″ shaft will deploy with but a simple press of the spring-activated auto-open button so that you receive instant coverage for a golf threesome, or perhaps a trio of shoppers alongside their bags. How about having it provide adequate cover to a gaggle of teens as well? There will be vented openings in the canopy that disperses wind to eliminate inversion.

Star Wars Lightsaber Umbrellas: Saberellas?

If you have been reading Technabob for a while, you might recall back in 2012 when we mentioned some Star Wars lightsaber umbrellas that had surfaced. When these things first hit the market, they went for over $60 each, which is way too much money if you ask me. Our favorite seller of all things geeky, ThinkGeek, now has its hands on three versions of the Star Wars Lightsaber Umbrella, and they are much more affordable this time out.

ThinkGeek has the Darth Vader, Obi-wan, and Yoda versions of the lightsaber umbrella for $35.99(USD). That is money well spent to stay dry. The shaft of the umbrella is anodized in the correct color for the blade of the saber when you open it.

The Yoda version is green, Vader style is red, naturally, and the Obi-Wan version has a blue shaft. Each of the hilts is styled after the lightsabers used in the films. The umbrellas also have a silk-screened logo for the Jedi or Imperial forces and come with a shoulder holder.

These won’t protect you from ice storms on Hoth, but they might be good for those rainy days in the swamps of Dagobah.

Star Wars Lightsaber Umbrellas lets you duke it out with one another

star-wars-lightsaber-umbrellaThe big kid in you would have definitely wanted to duke it out like a man with your siblings or friends using lightsabers when you first watched the Star Wars movies, never mind that the kind of physics involved in the movie are shaky at best. After all, what better way there is to settle a dispute than in a duel set in a fantasy environment? The lightsaber has proven itself to be a tool of offence as well as defense, and Obi-Wan Kenobi is a shining example of strong defense with his ‘saber skills. With the $35.99 Star Wars Lightsaber Umbrellas, you will be able to protect yourself from the rain without having to invoke any midichlorians along the way, while ensuring that you will always be prepared to meet the threat of any Jedi, Dark Jedi, or Sith.

The Star Wars Lightsaber Umbrella sports an anodized shaft in the appropriate color of the saber blade, where each purchase would come with a carrying sheath alongside a shoulder strap. The hilts are not according to scale so that they will be easier to hold in the midst of a storm, and the canopy segment even comes with the saber owner’s affiliation insignia (Jedi or Imperial) silk-screened on it. Guaranteed to turn heads whenever you go out with one of these during those bright sunny or rainy days, you can choose from a green, red or blue shaft that represents Yoda, Darth Vader and Obi-Wan. Each of these are fully licensed Lucasfilm collectibles just in case you were wondering.

Unbreakable Walking Stick Self Defense Umbrella is stronger than you think

unbreakable-walking-stick-self-defense-umbrellaAnyone who has watched one of those martial arts movies from the Far East would know that despite Orientals being depicted as scrawny and small sized, their innate knowledge of kung fu as well as all the mysteries associated with it are more than enough leverage to topple even the biggest quarterback in a fight. If you have not watched Ip Man as well as its sequel which stars Donnie Yen, might I suggest you take a look in that direction. Most of the time, an everyday item would come in handy to defend yourself against a bunch of thugs, where even an umbrella is able to do the trick. The thing is, modern day umbrellas are not exactly the strongest items out there, are they? Hence the $119.99 Unbreakable Walking Stick Self Defense Umbrella.

It looks like any other black umbrella out there, and is also legal to carry since it protects you from the rain. The thing is, it also comes across as a steel pipe in disguise. In fact, it can double up as a large blunt weapon at your whim and fancy, and does not run out of bullets, works great in close quarter combat assuming you have the technical know how, and would not require you to own a license and go for target practice. Keep it at home or in the car as the perfect self-defense device.

UnBRELLA: The Upside-down, Inside-out Umbrella

Have you tried sharing an umbrella with someone who’s shorter than you? It’s fine if you’re the one holding it, but if the other person is holding it, then you might feel a couple of bumps as the frame scrapes against your head, because your companion might be holding it a wee bit low.

unbrella umbrella 620x226magnify

Clearly, that’s a first-world problem. But it’s one that Hiroshi Kajimoto has solved with the UnBRELLA. When it’s closed, the UnBRELLA appears upside-down. When it’s open, you’ll see that the frame is placed on the outside instead, which makes it inside-out as well.

With these design modifications, the user gets more head room and the potential for tangled hair is eliminated.

The UnBRELLA is available for pre-order online. It will be released in mid-February 2014.

Crowd Safe Wind Defying Umbrella

Do you happen to live in a country or geographical location where there is plenty of rain all year around? Of course, drizzles are fine and dandy, but when such rain is accompanied by heavy winds, it makes life a whole lot trickier, especially when you get around on foot a whole lot. The reason I say this is because, wind tends to play havoc with your umbrella, where strong winds especially will tend to make short work of some of the more flimsy umbrellas. The $79.95 Crowd Safe Wind Defying Umbrella is special in a sense where this is a patented umbrella that boasts of unique flexing blunt tips which will not get in the way of other pedestrians who are equally desperate to find some shelter.

This is different from standard issue umbrellas that have protruding metal tips, as it will tuck its tips safely within the scalloped edges of its canopy. Apart from that, these reinforced pouches will also do its bit to enable the umbrella to withstand wind, where it works in tandem with the floating, telescopic ribs and double struts, helping distribute tension across the entire 43″-diameter canopy, where it can mitigate inversion even in gusts that are measured up to 70mph. Made out from stormproof polyester, the lightweight stick umbrella boasts of a straight handle with a rubberized grip, and a convenient carrying strap.

Nubrella Wearable Umbrella Keeps the Rain out (and Doesn’t Look Silly at All)

Whenever I go take the dog for a walk on a rainy or snowy day, it’s challenging to carry around an umbrella to keep from getting wet, so I usually just end up soaked by the time I’m done. But if I had a Nubrella, all of my problems would be solved.

nubrella 1

Current Nubrella Design

Though I’d create a new issue for myself – embarrassment. I’m just not sure I’d be able to walk down the street wearing one of these silly looking things, even though I like the concept of a truly hands-free umbrella. The Nubrella was originally launched back in 2009, but the original design was too constraining, and bubble like, which made it uncomfortable to wear and use. Its designers are now readying a new version which solves many of the problems of the original.

nubrella 3

Improved 2013 Nubrella Design

The new Nubrella (say that 10 times fast) is worn like a backpack, but when it’s wet outside, it can be opened up to cover your head and upper body – like a giant hood. It’s got a see-through front and top, which provides greater visibility than with umbrellas too. The updated design also allows for an open front which improves the ability to communicate and see while wearing it.

It’s really a pretty ingenious design, but I still don’t think I can get past the way it looks. Am I just too vain? If you’re not self-conscious, you can get on the list to own a new backpack-style Nubrella over on Kickstarter with prices starting around $50(USD) – about half of the planned retail price.
