Google Glass Explorer Edition Unboxed

So, you have already dropped some serious coin for the Google Glass Explorer Edition, and naturally the world being full of curious beings would want to know just how the Google Glass looks like in the flesh of an ordinary man on the street – granted that said person is most probably a developer or one of those lucky contest winners, but still, an unboxing video is long overdue in our opinion. After all, we do live in the age where being 10 minutes late to the news front is considered to be tardy, so without much further ado, do enjoy the unboxing photo of the Google Glass Explorer Edition above.

This particular unboxing photo is made available courtesy of +Brandon Allgood, who has displayed to all and sundry what one can expect to find in the box that houses the Google Glass Explorer Edition, also known as the Glass XE for short. In fact, the box itself comes with a stylized “XE” so that it indicates that the particular model in your hand is the Explorer Edition. Other than the Google Glass inside, other accompanying peripherals and goodies include , a protective pouch, a charging cord, and a couple of different visors to get you started right out of the box. As for the video itself, is is another Google Glass owner who has decided to take it out for a spin on a go-kart.

Here’s What’s Inside Google Glass’ Box

Even though we’ve seen Google Glass be leaked, be announced, be presented, be demoed, be worn, be used and even be mocked, it’s always represented some far off future technology that we never were sure if it would ever be real (in a I can’t believe it’s already here kind of way). But it’s totally happening guys. And this is what it looks like. Brandon Allgood got his hands on the Google Glass box and revealed what’s inside the future. More »

This Terrible Unboxing Of The Nokia Lumia 920 Is Impressive And Entertaining

We’ve all seen unboxing videos in the past – heck we’ve even done some ourselves, but for the most part unboxing videos are usually standard fare. The video shows the device in the box, some commentary is made on the design of the box before it is opened, and then the contents are shown, gone over one by one before the phone is finally turned on. After which there is a quick run through and the video concludes. However in this new video by the International House of Badman, they made a video which they claim is a “Terrible Unboxing” of the Nokia Lumia 920.

The video itself is pretty unique in terms of unboxing and comes with guns, hot girls and even a man in a gorilla costume! It does run through the usual bits of the Lumia 920 and the bundled accessories, but all done in a very unique and entertaining way. It is a bit ridiculous but sometimes a change from the norm is welcome, no? In fact one comment left for them is whether they will unbox the Samsung Galaxy S4, and given the impressive state of this video, we would love to see what they can come up with for the Galaxy S4. In any case if you have 5 minutes to spare, do check it out in the video above.

LG Optimus G Pro Unboxing [HD Video]

We gave the LG Optimus G Pro a Best of MWC award, but for a number of you who are waiting for a possible availability in your local market, we wanted to show what’s inside the box, namely: the phone itself, some documentation, a nice pair of earbuds, two 3140 mAh batteries, a USB cable and a battery charger/dock. Note that this is a Korean handset (with a typical DMB antenna), so the content may change depending on your retail location or on your local carrier. However, this gives an indication of what LG wants to ship in the box. (more…)

microsoft surface pro unboxing 01 640x426 Microsoft Surface Pro Unboxing Video + GalleryWe’ve received the Microsoft Surface Pro at the office, and before we start working on the full review, we wanted to post a quick video and a photo gallery for those who want to see how the full-fledged Windows 8 tablet looks in the “real world”.

In the photo gallery, we’ve put the MS Surface Pro next to the Surface RT that we reviewed in October, so that you can see the difference in thickness. We’ve also shot a photo next to an iPad 3 which is about as thick as the Surface RT. The fact that the Surface Pro is a bit bulkier isn’t news, but it’s important to see it for yourself.

Pebble smartwatch unboxing (video)

Pebble smartwatch unboxing video

It’s here! After nine months of waiting and a whopping 31 project updates, our very first Pebble smartwatch has finally arrived. Despite all of the excitement surrounding this device, the unboxing itself was rather anticlimactic — there’s nothing but a watch and USB cable inside, and the box took all of 10 seconds to open, despite an unexpected cardboard zipper failure. The packaging is very similar to what Amazon uses to ship its Kindles, and we definitely don’t mind the no-frills design, especially considering that it’s efficient, made from recycled materials and dead-simple to open. If you’re a Pebble backer, your device is coming soon, if it hasn’t arrived already — that doesn’t mean you can’t unbox one with us, though. There’s a gallery below, followed by a quick video after the break.

New iMacs on sale now starting at $1,299, we unbox both of them

New iMacs on sale now starting at $1,299, we unbox both of them

This is more of a PSA than anything else: just like Apple said they’d be, the new iMacs are on sale today, with the 21.5-inch model available right away and the 27-inch version shipping in December. The smaller guy starts at $1,299, though there’s also a more tricked-out $1,499 version; the 27-incher starts at $1,799 and goes up to $1,999. Whichever the model, a few key design principles apply. For staters, both measure just 5mm thick at the edges, and neither has a built-in optical drive. Both promise a 15 to 20 percent performance boost fueled partly by Ivy Bridge, and partly by Apple’s new FusionDrive, which combines an HDD with a 128GB solid-state drive, with everything stored on the SSD by default until you run out of space. Finally, both promise 75 percent less screen glare, thanks to a manufacturing process that eliminates the gap between the LCD and the glass. (Apple and other OEMs already use a similar technique on smartphones; we’ve just never seen it done on a screen quite this large.)

So what separates the two, then, aside from screen size? Specs, mostly. And also, resolution. The 21-inch version has a 1,920 x 1,080 pixel count, while the 27-incher steps up to 2,560 x 1,440. (In other words, the same resolution as last year’s offerings.) While both pack quad-core Core i5 processors, the 21.5-inch model starts with a 2.7GHz clock speed, compared with 2.9GHz for the bigger guy. As you might have guessed, the graphics are slightly better on the larger version: NVIDIA’s GTX 660M is standard there, versus GT 640M on the 21-incher. Both offer 1TB of storage, but the smaller machine uses a 5,400RPM drive while the bigger one has a 7,200RPM disk. The 27-incher can also be configured with a 3TB drive or 768GB SSD. As for RAM, both come with eight gigs standard, but the 21.5-inch model goes up to 16GB, while the 27-inch version goes up to 32GB and has user-accessible memory slots.

As it happens, we have two new iMacs here in house (one in each size, natch) and you can expect a full review very soon. For now, though, we’ve got some unboxing shots and first impressions just past the break.

Samsung Galaxy Camera unboxing (video)

Samsung Galaxy Camera unboxing video

Samsung’s much-anticipated EK-GC100 Galaxy Camera finally hit stores in the UK late last week and we’ve managed to get our hands on one of the very first samples to cross the assembly line. We’re putting the Android-powered hybrid through its paces at this very moment, but since this is the company’s first entry in a brand new category, we wanted to have you along as we opened the box. This may be a camera, but it’s very much a Galaxy device, and that’s immediately evident when you first see the packaging.

The cam ships just as any premium smartphone, with a very thin selection of accessories — you get an AC adapter, USB cable, a wrist strap and a pair of pocket guides (there’s no user manual to speak of). Much like Samsung’s latest round of point-and-shoots, it uses microSD cards and charges via a micro-USB cable and AC adapter. Even the 1,650mAh battery looks like a smaller version of Samsung’s smartphone offering, rather than something that ships alongside the company’s traditional camera lineup. Rest assured, we’ll have much more to share later this week, but for now, we invite you to join as we unbox the Galaxy Camera in our video just past the break.

Nintendo Unboxes its Own Wii U

The new Nintendo Wii U is coming to stores in North America on November 18th, but you can see exactly what you’ll be getting in the box thanks to the fine folks at Nintendo, who have decided to shoot their own early unboxing video, with Nintendo president Satoru Iwata doing the honors.

The video is in Japanese, but has subtitles, and is easy to follow. It’s pretty crazy that the controller is almost as big as the console, and the power brick is still quite chunky as well. It sure would be nice if they could get the size down. Apple has proven it’s possible with the MacBook’s power supply, as has Asus, so why can’t everyone?

My favorite part of the video is the rubber gloves Iwata is wearing while unboxing the shiny black game system. Clearly, it’s gonna be a major fingerprint magnet – especially the controller. I wonder if they include a pair of gloves in the box.

Nintendo took to UStream again to announce even more details for its impending new console. The company’s CEO was on hand to detail exactly what comes in the box with a very official-looking opening (Yep, Iwata-san just unboxed his own console.) It’s some pretty familiar packaging, but we noted that the AC adapter appears to be a weighty block separate from the main console. Alongside the main unit and the GamePad, the process also gave us a glimpse at the rest of the premium package, including a charging stand for the Wii U GamePad, console stand, HDMI cable, more cable twists, packaging and a beta test for the new Dragon Quest title. White-gloved console handling aside, the CEO had plenty more to explain — and some of it involved karaoke.
