Nokia N9 runs on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean

Now this is rather interesting – a device which is not a native of the Android ecosystem has been spotted to run Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, putting to shame some of the more established names in the Android world that has seen their fair share of smartphones yet to receive an operating system update until not. The NITDroid project is successful enough to get Android 4.1 Jelly Bean up and running on old faithful, the Nokia N9. No idea on a more formal release, but chances are additional information as well as a more stable Jelly Bean release will be introduced for the Nokia N9 in due time. Watch the video above and be amazed, or at least, have your curiosity piqued enough to query the hardware manufacturers and carriers of your far superior (in terms of hardware) Android-powered smartphone what is taking them so long to deliver the latest Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update in your direction.

Mosquito Buster app: Does it work as promised?

“There’s an app for that,” or so the mantra goes in the Apple ecosystem, but what about those of us rocking to the Android platform from Google? Well, check out this particular app known as the Mosquito Buster, where it claims to repel mosquitoes from being around you through the simple act of emitting a high-frequency sound wave that mosquitoes dislike. I am not quite sure just how effective this particular app will be, but the folks over at TABROID were the ones who brought our attention to this particular app, and they tested it during the late afternoon by setting off into rice paddy fields then, looking for the ideal spot where there are plenty of these natural blood suckers around.

The staff at TABROID who spent their afternoon in a mosquito infested paddy field claimed not to have gotten bitten – not even once, thanks to the app running on their smartphone. Apart from that, this app will come with a “kid busting mode” and a “mouse/rat busting mode” that touts to emit sounds which can be heard only by younger people and rats. Is there any need for insect repellents during your camping trips in the future? Yes sir, as you need no batteries to slather a generous dose of insect repellent all over your body.

Star Wars Force Glove gives you Jedi-like abilities

Any Star Wars fan is familiar with the yearn to be a Jedi that can wield a lightsaber and use the force, but besides a couple of well-edited videos, no one has seemed to grasp the concept yet. Now, anyone can use the force thanks to the Star Wars Force Glove designed by Uncle Milton.

The Force Glove allows the user to push or pull objects without having to touch them. Although as much as one wishes that you were actually using the force to move objects, the Force Glove works through the magnet attached in the palm part of the glove. The magnet on the glove comes with an embossed Rebel Alliance logo on one side and an Imperial logo on the other.

The set comes with a magnetic base and two attachments, one that features droids walking and the other with a lightsaber. Depending on which side of the magnet you are using, it will either push or pull the magnetic base. The Force Glove will set you back $19.99 and only comes with one. Le

Steve Jobs’ home burgled, suspect in custody at the moment

Steve JobsIt seems that honor among thieves does not include robbing the house of a great American icon, the late Steve Jobs. His home that is located on the 2100 block of Waverley Street in Palo Alto was actually trespassed last month – July 17th, to be exact. It took a fortnight or so for the police to successfully perform an arrest on Kariem McFarlin, the 25-year old male from Alameda, after he stole more than $60,000 worth of “computers and personal items” from Jobs’ home. Just last week, McFarlin was arraigned on one count of residential burglary and selling stolen property. (more…)

With the BikeCharge Dynamo installed onto your bicycle, this mounted DC generator is said to be compatible with majority of the smartphone brands out there, and a full charge would more or less require approximately 2 to 3 hours of pedaling. Cocorobo vacuum cleaner is one cute looking home appliance

Robotic vacuum cleaners are definitely able to help you get the job done when it was first released, but those are not exactly the cutest things that you would find in any living room. The Cocorobo vacuum cleaner that you see here from Sharp is one that was specially destined to be appealing to everyone, where it is not only remote-controlled as all modern day appliances should be, it is also capable of talking to people. Granted, Cocorobo will not be the most stimulating conversation partner you will ever run into, but at least from what we have seen in the past, it is worth a shot.

One great thing about the Cocorobo is its ability to function in a somewhat familiar manner as that of a pet dog – after all, it will respond to your voice. For instance, barging through the door after a long day at work, yelling “I’m home!” would see you receive a warm welcome from the Cocorobo itself, and even if you swear at it in your particularly foul mood, it will still continue to get the job done without frowning or pulling a long face.

Netflix ‘Just for Kids’ on the Xbox 360 debuts

I remember back in the day when I first laid my eyes on a color TV, boy was it quite a stark contrast compared to the communal black and white TV set! Even though there were just two channels to choose from, I never really complained that there was nothing to watch on TV. Fast forward to today, and many people gripe and complain about how there is “nothing to watch” on TV despite surfing through hundreds of TV channels in the process. Netflix has offered ‘Just for Kids’ on the Xbox 360, where this user interface makes it easier and more intuitive for your little ones to enjoy their favorite shows without bugging you.

Basically, Just For Kids will be a character-centric interface, allowing even toddlers to be able to navigate to watch what they fancy, ranging from Dora The Explorer to the amazing talking sponge, Spongebob Squarepants. Glad to see this port of Just For Kids appear on the Xbox 360 after it has already made an appearance on the Nintendo Wii, PS3 and Apple TV. It is a no brainer to give this a go if you are a Netflix subscriber, own an Xbox 360 and have the pitter patter of feet around the home.

Apple’s iPhone nearly got axed due to flaws, according to Jony Ive

Based on the evidence we’ve seen so far, Apple has gone through multiple designs for the iPhone before deciding on the one that many of us have (or had) in our pockets today. While an exterior design is an important one, it is only part of the whole phone and without properly working hardware and software, what’s the point, right? That being said, Apple’s chief designer, Jony Ive stated in an interview with The Independent that Apple nearly axed the iPhone during its testing phase before it was even launched: (more…)

Huawei Ascend G 302D arrives in FCC documents

Here is yet another smartphone to have arrived on the FCC’s doorsteps – the Huawei Ascend G 302D. The “G” here signifies “Gold”, and it is rather strange to have something denoted as a premium precious metal being relegated to the budget range of smartphones. Ah well, I guess it is not too big of an issue to grapple with after all, as there are far more baffling things on earth to figure out. Just what else have we managed to uncover about the Huawei Ascend G 302D by the FCC? For starters, this will most probably be a 4″ device, and it should more or less run on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, considering how the capacitive keys do seem to point in that particular direction.

The manual for the Huawei Ascend G 302D is also thrown into the mix, where it does detail some bit of Radio Frequency testing, showing off two different capacity batteries – 1,350mAh and 1,500mAh, which will be able to support Bluetooth, Wi-Fi b/g/n and AT&T-compatible radios. What do you think of such a smartphone?

Samsung Galaxy Nexus sales to continue despite trial

Apple and Samsung have come to a head and locked horns good and proper in the courtroom, and there are plenty of lawsuits and injunctions being thrown about from left to right and to one another. Well, one development that should be duly taken note of would be the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit extending the temporary stay of Judge Lucy Koh’s preliminary injunction against the Samsung Galaxy Nexus. Basically, what we are saying is this – the Samsung Galaxy Nexus can still be sold by Samsung in the US without any steps taken to halt sales of its nature. Samsung had also put in an expedited appeal that will happen this coming August 20th, where a decision is expected to be announced in due course of time.

According to Judge Lucy Koh, Apple had presented a “plausible theory” of irreparable harm and long-term loss of market share from the alleged infringement by Samsung, but Samsung sees things differently since they say that Siri is definitely different from the unified search that is covered in the 604 patent, meaning that particular use of the patent is invalid has been interpreted incorrectly.
