Analyst Believes PS4 Will Outsell The Xbox One, But Believes Consoles Will Eventually Become Irrelevant

Analyst Believes PS4 Will Outsell The Xbox One, But Believes Consoles Will Eventually Become IrrelevantWhile the Nintendo Wii U is technically considered next-gen, it does not appear to be in the race at the moment, leaving Sony and Microsoft to battle it out head-to-head with the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One respectively. In any case since neither console has yet to be released, we won’t know how well it would sell yet, but according to Wedbush Securities analyst, Michael Pachter, he believes that the Sony PS4 will outsell the Xbox One, mostly due to the fact that the PS4 is priced $100 cheaper than the Xbox One, amongst other factors. However Pachter goes on to claim that despite this, it does not matter because in 10 years’ time, he believes that consoles will eventually be rendered irrelevant.

Pachter has been quoted as saying, “I don’t think the console market will get any bigger […] The console installed base has peaked. Consoles may not be relevant in 10 years. We have expanded the market beyond the hardcore console owner. We now have ten times the audience over the internet, six times the audience over mobile. And I think one day you’ll get to play any game, anywhere on any device.” He goes on to state the he believes the PS4 will sell anywhere between 100-120 million units in its lifetime, the Xbox One will see 90-110 million units, will the Nintendo Wii U will trail far behind with 30 million lifetime units.

Nissan Shows Off New Wearable HUD In Trailer

Nissan is not only involved in motorsports, but they do seem to be moving in a different direction as well with the release of a new trailer that depicts a spanking new gadget which one would most probably associate with the likes of Google and NTT DoCoMo, that is, a pair of smart glasses. Before the Tokyo Auto Show kicks off, Nissan has already introduced a teaser video for their new head-mounted HUD that is known as the 3E. This is definitely a surprise, considering how Nissan did reveal a Nismo Watch concept just a couple of months ago that was meant to cater for race car drivers.

With the Nissan 3E HUD, it should be able to display vehicle performance analysis, in addition to the driver’s vital signs as well as social media presence to keep up with the times. Theoretically speaking, this might very well be one of the more affordable methods of implementing a heads up display that will keep you in tune with your set of wheels rather than the standard issue dashboard system. No idea on how much it will cost when it finally arrives, and whether it will come free with each Nissan vehicle purchase? Only time will tell.

Proporta’s iPhone 5/5s Case Can Withstand A Shotgun Blast

Proportas iPhone 5/5s Case Can Withstand A Shotgun BlastWe’re not sure how many of you guys need a bullet proof iPhone case, but in case you do, Proporta has unveiled a new case for the iPhone 5 and iPhone 5s that according to the manufacturers, will be able to withstand a shotgun blast from up to 20 yards. As you can see in the photo above, the Proporta iPhone case does not look particularly unique in the sense that you wouldn’t be able to tell that it was built for such protection. In fact it looks like your standard leather folio case on the surface, but in reality it’s actually lined with carbon fiber that it should be able to withstand a bullet to the case, which presumably will protect your iPhone at the same time. Verizon Galaxy Note 3 Receives Update That Address Sound Quality And Connectivity Issues

Verizon Galaxy Note 3 Receives Update That Address Sound Quality And Connectivity IssuesThe Samsung Galaxy Note 3 is a fine device, as noted in our review, but oddly enough it seems that as far as Verizon users are concerned, there are issues with their Galaxy Note 3 that could use some fixing. This comes in the form of poor sound quality and connectivity issues. Well the good news is that if you’re a Verizon Galaxy Note 3 user, you might be interested to learn that Verizon has begun rolling out an update for the device that should address those problems. The update will bump your phone’s build version to VRUBMJ7 and unlike the update being pushed out for international variants of the handset, this should address the problems we mentioned above.

The update will be rolled out over the air and as always with most, if not all updates, don’t expect it to hit every device at once, meaning that if you have not received the notification that you have an update waiting for you, be patient as we’re sure that it will eventually make its way onto your handset. For those too impatient to wait, you can try to pull it manually by going to your phone’s Settings, About Phone, followed by the Software Update option. If you have received the update, let us know in the comments below on how it is treating you!

Prem Watsa Expects BlackBerry To Turnaround In One And A Half Years

Prem Watsa Expects BlackBerry To Turnaround In One And A Half YearsWith Fairfax Financial Holdings investing and injecting $1 billion into BlackBerry and appointing a new CEO, it almost feels like the Canadian company has gotten a new lease on life, just like how Nokia got a new lease on life when Stephen Elop stepped in and bet the farm on Windows Phone. While Nokia appears to be doing relatively well at the moment, market share notwithstanding, will BlackBerry be able to enjoy similar success, or at least a turnaround, as well? Fairfax CEO, Prem Watsa, seems to think so and in an interview with Bloomberg expressed his belief and confidence that BlackBerry will experience a turnaround in a year to a year and half’s time.

Speaking in the interview, Watsa was quoted as saying, “We went with the idea that the next three or four or six quarters are going to be tough […] We expect the cash to stabilize somewhere there and then pick up — and finance it with enough cash to give us a long runway.” Will his predictions come true? We guess that remains to be seen, but at least for now BlackBerry is still afloat and with the company expected to continue their focus on handsets, perhaps things will pick up in time. What do you guys think? Will we see BlackBerry turnaround come 2014/2015?

HTC One Update Schedule For EMEA Region Released

HTC One Update Schedule For EMEA Region ReleasedWith Android 4.4 KitKat having been released not too long, HTC announced that HTC One devices in North America could look forward to receiving the update within 90-days, with the Google Play edition of the handset expecting to see a release within 15-days. While that’s great for our friends in North America, what about those who are living in other regions? Will HTC be able to deliver the Android 4.4 KitKat update in a timely manner for them as well? Well it turns out that HTC will be doing just that and has announced an upgrade schedule for the HTC One in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (the Asian rollout still remains unknown at this point in time).

In a statement released by HTC, “Across EMEA, HTC will work with local carriers to begin the roll-out of Android 4.4 with Sense 5.5 for the HTC One from the end of January. The Google Play edition will start to receive the update earlier, starting from the end of November. Details regarding the HTC One Max and HTC One Mini will follow.” We’re not sure why the HTC One Max and One Mini have not received any release dates yet, given that both devices are newer than the HTC One, but perhaps hardware could be an issue. Either way we’ll keep our eyes peeled, but for HTC One users in the EMEA regions, the update is one worth keeping an eye out for!

BBM For Android And iOS Will Remain Free

BBM For Android And iOS Will Remain Free

After the initial roll out was plagued with issues, BlackBerry tried its luck once again last week and rolled out BBM for Android and iOS. The second time around, the launch went smoothly. BlackBerry was also quick to abolish to waitlist after launch so that users could get immediate access to the messenger, which is now finally cross-platform. At this point in time, the BBM app for Android and iOS is available for free. Executive vice president of BBM at BlackBerry, Andrew Bocking, confirms that the service will remain free in the future.

Though that doesn’t mean BlackBerry won’t monetize it. Bocking says that they have “other ideas” to monetize BBM on Android and iOS. He also promised the release of a couple of new features, which are exclusive to BBM on BlackBerry right now, for other platforms “within months.” These features include video and voice chats. BBM Channels, a social networking feature, is also expected to come on other platforms soon. The feature lets users gather followers and share content with them, BlackBerry may monetize it through advertising and marketing, Bocking says. BBM on Android and iOS is off to a good start. The app garnered over 10 million downloads initially, and continues to sit in the top charts of free apps. Things seem to be looking up at least for one part of BlackBerry.

Malware Parades As Grand Theft Auto V For Windows

Malware Parades As Grand Theft Auto V For Windows Grand Theft Auto 5, or GTA 5 for short, is a game that has more or less captured the imagination of many, having broken a whopping 7 Guinness World Records along the way. In fact, it has also been noted that GTA 5 itself comes with nearly 30 Easter Eggs to boot! Having said that, one thing must be established first – GTA 5 is available only on the console platform, so those with a Windows computer would only be getting themselves into trouble if they happen to download a GTA V PC port that they have found online.

In any case, DO NOT download this alleged GTA V PC port, since it is actually a malware disguised as such. The file download began to appearing on torrent sites earlier this week, where it weighs in at a massive 18GB, and has been downloaded thousands of times to boot. Most folks might be fooled into thinking that they are downloading a setup.exe file for GTA V, but it actually has a veiled intention of tricking folks to surf to a website in order to “register” their personal information. Needless to say, this is but a phishing scheme that is deviously executed, preying on the naivete of the masses.

Now that you know, go warn everyone else in your contact circle about this malware, too.

    Lenovo Miix2, 8-inch Full Windows Tablet: Hands-On

Lenovo Miix2, 8 inch Full Windows Tablet: Hands OnLenovo has just announced its new 8-inch Windows tablet called the Lenovo Miix2. It’s an 8” tablet that is equipped with a 1280×800 LCD IPS display (178 degrees viewing angle). From the outside, it looks like a regular 8.35 mm thick tablet, and most people wouldn’t think that it runs a full version of Windows 8.1 with a full version of Microsoft Office Home & Student 2013. This will ensure a perfect compatibility and edition capabilities of any Office documents you may have. Despite years of development on Android and iOS, editing or viewing Office documents is still not a problem that has been solved at 100% (it’s actually a very hard problem).
