Send Messages Hidden in Encrypted Images with Crypstagram

If you need to send someone a message but have to be discrete about it, then you might want to give Crypstagram a shot. It’s an image sharing site does more than just provide you with a means to share images with other people.

That’s because the image has to go through their system first before it’s ready for sharing.

Crypstagrammagnify

What Crypstagram is encrypt your image by embedding a message into it. When I say “embed,” I do mean embed because it doesn’t just add text onto your image as an overlay or caption. It actually incorporates your message into the image and distorts it in the process.

Just select the image you want to use, upload it to the site, and add your message. Once it’s encrypted, you’ll end up with a surreal, glitched out image. You can then choose to share it or download it to your computer so you can email it to the recipient for decryption – which can only be achieved if you have the proper password.

Stink Yourself Slim Grosses You out So You’ll Lose Weight

It’s easy to gain weight, but it’s exponentially harder to lose it. As you probably already know by now, crash diets won’t work. What does work is cleaning up your diet and adding more exercise into your lifestyle.

Then, of course, there’s Stink Yourself Slim.

stink yourself slim spray 620x372magnify

I wouldn’t say it’s revolutionary, but I would say that it’s definitely unusual.

Stink Yourself Slim is basically a stink bomb in a bottle, but you’re not supposed to use it to prank others. Instead, you’re supposed to spritz some and smell it so you’ll lose your appetite. It’s logical: the less food you eat, the more weight you lose. It was created by Alex Fontaine and was inspired by a real-life event when a skunk crashed a buffet and ruined everyone’s appetite.

It’s being advertised as something that curbs emotional eating as it “works on brain areas that control motivation and behavior.” I’m not sure how stinking up the place affects a person’s motivation, but I will agree that it’ll make them want to eat less.

Stink Yourself Slim is available online for £29.99 (~$49 USD).

Nibble Pan: Sample Baked Goodies without Ruining Them

Personally, I find baking cakes infinitely harder than cooking savories because you can’t really cheat when it comes to the former. By “cheat,” I mean correct mistakes you made along the way. For example, when you’re cooking and you find it’s too bland, then you can just add salt and pepper to taste. You can’t do the same when it comes to baking, because once that tray is in the oven, then all you can do is wait.

Another thing is that you won’t know how your cake will turn out until it’s served, because you can’t exactly cut out a piece to try it before anyone else can get a slice of their own. This is where Nibble Pan offers you a bit of help.

While it won’t let you “fix” bad batches of baked stuff, it will let you know if you whipped up an “off” cake by letting you try it before anyone else does – or let you sneak a bite instead of impatiently digging into the main cake. The Nibble Pan comes with an extra slot on the side, where you can pour a bit of your extra batter to make a cupcake version of your cake. How’s that for baking innovation?

Keep in mind that the smaller baked goodie will probably cook quicker than the main section of the pan, so you’ll want to snag your personal snack-size cake early.

The Nibble Pan retails for about $21.99(USD) over at Quirky.

Outdoor ‘Water Bench’ Provides Comfy Seating, Collects Rainwater

Some people put out pails and bins to collect rainwater when it rains. Others, like the folks of MARS architects, put out benches. They’re very different objects, but they serve the same purpose: to collect rainwater which will be used to water plants, wash cars, hose down driveways, and so on and so forth.

So you might be wondering, how does a bench collect rainwater? Well, it’s all in the cushions. The bench MARS came up with features grooves and seams that direct the water into inlet buttons. The collected water is stored in an underground tank and in the aboveground tank (which is, essentially, the bench.)

The benches are available in three capacities: 500 liters, 1,000 liters, and 1,800 liters, each of which is recommended for certain locations to maximize their usefulness.

The smallest unit does not even require any ground work, and is best equipped for roadside installation; the medium size includes an underground tank and is well-suited for gardens and greenhouses; and the largest one is appropriate for public parks and playgrounds.

The bench came to be after MARS was commissioned by the BMW guggenheim lab to join in on the think tank’s vision to come up with innovations that would benefit cities and urban environments.

‘Average Days’ Watch Lets You Know What the Rest of the World is Usually Doing

Do you ever wonder how you spend your time, relative to the rest of world? While you’re bumming around, the vast majority might be working. While you’re eating, some might be getting ready to work out.

Giving you some perspective on how you spend – and maybe waste – your time is the Average Days watch by Mr. Jones.

Mr. Jones is one of my favorite watchmakers because they constantly come up with unusual designs that make you look twice. In this case, they’re making you think twice as well.

The face of the Average Days watch follows a 24-hour format. As the disc turns, a small slot reveals the most common activity that people usually do at that particular time. This information was obtained from data compiled by the Centre For Time Use Research, so they’re not just tasks lifted from some random person’s daily routine.

Only 100 pieces of the watch have been made. Average Days is currently available online from Mr. Jones Watches for £145 (~ $231 USD)

Scentee Add-on Brings Makes Your Smartphone Smell

Smell-o-vision is real, and you can now experience it firsthand with Scentee. In case you haven’t heard about it yet, Scentee is a small smartphone attachment that gives you a whiff of real-world scents and smells at the push of a button (or rather, with a tap on the screen.)

Hana Yakinikumagnify

Various scent cartridges for the Scentee already exist, such as coffee, corn soup, apples, and cinnamon rolls.

The latest addition is the Hana Yakiniku, which adds the delicious aromas of grilled short ribs, beef tongue, and buttered potatoes the growing catalog. Just fire up the accompanying app, choose which meat you want to smell, and breathe deep…

Unlike what the promo video suggests, I don’t think this can substitute for eating actual meat. But hey, you’re welcome to follow what they instruct in the video – just let us know how it goes for you.

This is a Potatomato Plant: You Say Potato, I Say Tomato…

Potatoes grow underground. Tomatoes grow above the ground. The TomTato plant grows both potatoes underground and tomatoes above ground… at the same time!

I don’t know what the folks over at British horticultural firm Thompson and Morgan were thinking, but they managed to turn a far-off idea into reality. It took them ten years, but they finally figured out how to make a plant grow potatoes and tomatoes without genetically modifying it.

The process involved grafting, more grafting, and even more grafting before the team achieved success. Incredibly, the plants were combined without genetic modification.

Thompson and Morgan director Paul Hansord explains: “It has been very difficult to achieve because the tomato stem and the potato stem have to be the same thickness for the graft to work… It is a very highly skilled operation. We have seen similar products. However, on closer inspection the potato is planted in a pot with a tomato planted in the same pot – our plant is one plant and produces no potato foliage.”

Pretty weird, but still amazing, isn’t it?

Split is a Teeny, Tiny MP3 Player That You Control by Biting Down

At first glance, Split might look like a pair of handy dandy wireless earphones, but they’re more than that. They’re actually self-contained MP3 players that you can control without a display or buttons.

Greenwing Audio definitely succeeded in making the most compact music players I’ve ever seen. The earbuds are magnetic, which is a handy feature since you’re less likely to lose one of them if they’re stuck together when you’re not using them. Either that, or you lose them both at the same time.

split earbud mp3 620x349magnify

Without a display, how do you control these things? By biting down. Apparently, one bite skips a track while two bites toggles the volume. And no, you don’t need to put them in your mouth. This feature is triggered thanks to a three-axis accelerometer installed in the ear buds.

split earbud mp3 bite 620x705magnify

Split is charged via USB cable, with each charge lasting about four hours. Songs are also transferred to the system via USB. Unfortunately, given its size, storage is limited to 256 MB or roughly 24 songs.

It’s definitely an interesting concept, but I’m thinking this is something you definitely can’t use while you’re eating or if you have a habit of biting down randomly throughout the day. Split is up for funding on Kickstarter through 10/31/13, where a minimum pledge of $155(USD) will get you one pair.

First Date Cutlery: So You Can Focus on Your Date, Not Your Food

I’m sure you’ve gone on first dates before. And I’m sure you’ve learned the hard way that first dates usually go worse the more you like the person you’re with. Most dates involve eating a meal – and where there’s food, there’s bound to be accidents – usually the messy kind.

With this in mind, Cristina Guardiola redesigned your typical utensils to come up with First Date Cutlery that’s guaranteed to get you through that first date without using the wrong knife or using the dessert spoon for your soup.

Cristina explains that the set adheres “directly to appropriate advice in Debrett’s Etiquette, enhancing the prospect of correct use and diminishing that of an unfortunate faux-pas.” So with etiquette worries out of the way, you should be safe, right?

The soup spoon encourages you to drink from the proper side of the spoon, thus reducing messy spills, while the knife and fork are magnetic, which allows you to place them neatly on the plate so you can take breaks to chat with your date.

The dessert spoon that comes with the set offers up a little reward too, as it was apparently “made for two people sharing one dish.” Well, I honestly think that’s moving a little too fast for comfort, but hey, I’m not one to judge.

Blizzident 3D-Printed Toothbrush Requires Only Six Seconds of Brushing – Er, Biting

I think you know by now why it’s important to brush your teeth regularly. Those two minutes each morning and night might just save you from a future of missing teeth and dentures. But now there’s a new toothbrush of sorts in the market that promises to cut your brushing time down to six seconds per session. I’m not kidding.

BlizzidentIt’s called the Blizzident and it’s a 3D-printed toothbrush that’s customized for your specific dental configuration. It costs $299(USD) to get one made, because it’s custom nature means that you can’t just pick one up at a store. You’ll have to get a dentist to make a 3D impression of your teeth, which is scanned into a 3D file and sent off to Blizzident.

They will then get to work on your custom toothbrush. The Blizzident has soft bristles all over, so instead of moving the brush, you just have to bite and chew for six seconds to get a deep clean around every tooth in your mouth – as well as your tongue. It’s recommended that users get a their Blizzident replaced annually. After the initial brush, it’ll cost $159 for replacements.

You can get more information about the Blizzident on their website.
