If you’re an Evernote user on Android and you’ve never used Skitch, now is a better time than ever – they’ve just updated their build to include more integration between apps than ever! This update brings what the developers behind both apps call the “full Evernote treatment” which includes a full overhaul on the aesthetics you’ve got in your user interface – and on your ability to use the app as well, of course. This update also includes several new features that’ll help you edit images for notes to your delight.

The update to Skitch includes a brand new clean homescreen, first of all, making it easier to use and nicer than ever to look at. You’ve got Pixelate and Highlighter now to help edit images, too. With Pixelate you’ve got the ability to obscure part of an image if you want it to be entirely private. With Highlighter you’ve got basically the opposite of Pixelate – it’s the partially transparent paintbrush you’ve been waiting for – highlight those notes!

You’ve got a brand new Planning tool, too – here you’ll be able to select, move, and resize all of your annotations in notes galore. Make sure you’re taking extra special care to plan, highlight, and pixelate with no less than the most refined version of Skitch on the market yet. This version is available for download right this minute from the Google Play app store across the USA and in most regions across the planet as well.

We’ve seen web portals that let you search for TV and movies on the internet across different services, but a new update for Roku is bringing that capability directly to its set-top boxes. Whether you’re searching by movie, TV show, actor or director it will sniff out related content across some of the higher profile services it offers, including Netflix, Amazon Instant Video, Hulu Plus, Crackle, Vudu and HBO Go. The new Roku Search function is front and center (once your second gen HD or higher player has been updated to the latest version) and in our tests worked quickly, pulling up content wherever it was available and mentioning if it was available in HD. The only downside is navigating the onscreen keyboard via remote, although you can always sub in your mobile device thanks to those recently upgraded remote apps for iOS and Android. All in all Roku says it can reach its tendrils across around 130,000 titles and almost 100,000 actors and directors. We’ve known for months that HTC intends to upgrade the One X to Jelly Bean, but now it appears the update is finally going live, at least for folks in Taiwan. Members of the XDA Developers forum are chiming in about a 352.87MB OTA update that’s available within both HTC’s home country and Singapore, which brings Android 4.1.1 and HTC Sense 4+ to the One X. Jelly Bean’s appearance for the handset matches an earlier report from Engadget Chinese of an incoming update promised by HTC Taiwan. According to PocketDroid, general manager of HTC North Asia, Jack Tong, announced that One X users within Asia will see the update begin to roll today, and that the One S will also receive Jelly Bean a tad later. We’ve reached out to HTC to verify Mr. Tong’s comments, and for clarification of specific regions throughout Asia.

Flipboard on iOS has had audio for some time, giving users the chance to go all high-brow as they listen to NPR while browsing the news on their iPad. It’s Android’s turn to adopt that cultured stance: an update to Flipboard on its newer platform includes the full, listen-in-the-background Audio category channel selection, whether it’s thoughtful public radio snippets or spotlights on podcasts and artists. SoundCloud mavens get the biggest fill, both through a direct link to their account as well as a list of specialized channels. Anyone who can already use Flipboard for Android just needs to hit Google Play to add the new audio dimension; Kindle Fire and Nook owners should see a fully tailored experience in a matter of days.

You’re probably saying to yourself, “didn’t Skype just get a Windows 8-friendly refresh?” Why yes, yes it did. But Skype 6.0 here isn’t limited to Windows RT slates, instead it’s designed for more traditional Windows systems and even has a similarly numbered OS X counter part. There’s a number of notable changes here, including the ability to sign in directly with your Facebook or Microsoft account. (If you’ve got a Live Messenger, Hotmail or Outlook.com account, then you’ve got a Microsoft account.) The most visible changes, however, will be the “flattened” Don’t-call-it-Metro-friendly UI on Windows and the addition of Retina display support on OS X. There’s a few other minor changes, including some additional localizations, which you can read about at the source. And heck, since you’re already there, might as well download Skype too.
