Hasta La Gadget!

Good news folks! Apple has just opened the flood gates and released the official version of iOS 6 today for the world. You diehard Apple fans have probably been running iOS 6 from the beta, or GM release a few weeks ago, but today the final version is rolling out and available right this minute for all those iDevices.

While we’re pretty sure many of you are patiently waiting for that shiny new iPhone 5 to arrive, for those that didn’t upgrade you can surely get close with iOS 6. Apple’s new Siri improvements, Their own home-brewed 3D Maps with flyover, passbook and more. I’m sure you all know plenty about iOS 6 already and just would like to know how to get it.

The folks from Cupertino have been working hard and are pushing the update out as we speak. We’ve been hearing from multiple sources that the rollout has just begun and is rolling out in stages. Users of iOS 5 devices should be able to update over-the-air right on their devices, and as usual all can use iTunes to do the same. As a precaution it’s always good to backup your iPhone or iPad first just to be safe.

We mentioned this morning the update would start rolling out around 1:00 PM EST and that is in just a few minutes. Most likely the masses will start seeing the update arrive shortly. The update is likely being staggered so if you don’t see it right away don’t be too upset, try again in a few minutes and you’ll be enjoying that iOS 6 greatness soon enough. You might also want to make sure you’re running the latest iTunes 10.7

Android users who enjoy saving their reading for later will be happy to know that Pocket’s been on the receiving end of a very pleasant update. The main addition in this new version is a text-to-speech feature which reads you any saved articles, and one that’s missing from its iOS counterpart. Additionally, the “Manage Site Subscription” within the app’s now fully functional on all flavors of Google’s OS, while an enhanced full-screen animation in Reader and other undisclosed UI tweaks have also been stuffed inside v4.2. On the heels of the preview of its Jelly Bean-flavored Android app, Dropbox has updated its iOS software for mobile devices as well. This time around, the cloud storage outfit threw in sharing directly to Facebook and Twitter. Simply select your social media outlet of choice from the menu and proceed to type the appropriate message. A link to the file will then get comfortable on your timeline once you post the update. If you need to keep matters a bit more private, you can include the info in a Facebook message as well. For those looking to print directly from their cloud libraries, AirPrint support is also included in this version (1.5.5). If you haven’t snagged the update just yet, the iTunes link below will lend a hand with said task.

If you still cling to that Windows XP-powered PC as your graphics workhorse, Adobe reckons it’s time you upgraded. Photoshop CS6 will be the last release to support Microsoft’s venerable operating system, with Adobe stating that advances in more modern OS’ and graphics processing have allowed for more 3D and Lighting Effect improvements — ones that cannot be rendered within the older Windows iteration. It’s also worth noting that Vista doesn’t support CS6 either, so anyone thinking of upgrading will have to look towards Windows 7, or wait a little longer for the next big thing. Adobe added that specific Creative Cloud updates will also skip over Windows XP users — even if they still take up fair chunk of the PC crowd.

The Cox TV Connect for iPad app that brings live TV streaming to the tablet while customers are at home has received another update that gives it some capabilities outside the house. While that doesn’t include the aforementioned TV viewing, version 1.1.2 integrates remote DVR scheduling (previously left to the company’s Mobile Connect phone apps) and allows access to the app and recently updated grid guide when the user is away from home. You’ll still need to have the proper TV and internet packages from Cox to make it all go, but there’s no additional charge for the app that’s available at the source link below.
