Astronaut USB Light adds a touch of adventure to your computer

astronaut-usb-lightDo you like compromises? Sometimes, compromises are the best way forward in a particularly tense situation. Well, lets just say that you are right now rather tight when it comes to money, and are unable to purchase a new notebook that comes with that fancy backlight for the keyboard. Hence, whenever you need to churn out a document at night for work tomorrow while working in the dark so that you do not make it difficult for others to fall asleep with the lights on, perhaps the £12.95 Astronaut USB Light is able to help you out.

The Astronaut USB Light is one handy flexible light which can be pointed in just about any direction (which of course, we would think that pointing it towards the keyboard would works best), and it can also be turned on or off in a jiffy. This is one spaceman that comes in handy during the darker moments in your life, and he “turns on” whenever you flick his visor up. Out of his backpack lies a 30cm poseable USB lead, allowing you to project your light at the place whenever required.

Car for soccer moms and FBI agents has 6 USB ports and 6 power outlets

This horrible new tank—the shamelessly named 2015 Chevy Suburban—is the only car with six USB ports and six power outlets. Doesn’t that sound stupidly overkill? Not in suburban America! Just imagine all those kids playing Candy Crush on their iPads while they are not using the USB ports for their surveillance equipment.

An Emergency Lightning Cable That’s No Bigger Than Your House Key

An Emergency Lightning Cable That's No Bigger Than Your House Key

The makers of the ChargeCard—that wallet-friendly credit card-sized sync cable for smartphones—are back with a new product called the ChargeKey that’s instead designed to hang out on your keychain. It’s almost like a stripped down version of the ChargeCard that sheds most of the plastic so it can easily sidle up next to your keys, but at the cost of being incredibly short which limits where you can use it.

Muscle Wire USB Powered Moving Butterfly does not sting your wallet like a bee

muscle-wireWe do know that in Japan, that is where one is able to find some weird and quirky USB-powered gizmos and toys. However, these toys can sometimes be purchased online, such as the $19.99 Muscle Wire USB Powered Moving Butterfly. The name of this particular gizmo gives itself away, where it will be powered by your USB port and flap its wings slowly, as though a butterfly is flitting in a stationary position right there and then on your desk. If you want to mesmerize new job applicants in your office, then this would be better than some of those kinetic sculptures. Available in three beautiful species, I guess you can also say that this is some form of stress relief device worth having.

The three species that you can choose from would be available in monarch, blue morpho, or swallowtail, and it flaps its wings not at a preset speed, but rather, deliver realistic random patterns and speeds so that it is as lifelike as possible. The movements are made possible courtesy of the application of electrical current to a Flexinol actuator wire. Do you think that this is worth a purchase if your desk looks pretty bare?

A USB-Packed Dock For All Your Phones and Tablets To Call Home

A USB-Packed Dock For All Your Phones and Tablets To Call Home

Laugh if you will at the absurdity of a dock that can charge and store ten different devices, but if you stop and actually count how many things you need to plug in every night, it stops being so absurd. By now most households have at least a few smartphones, gaming devices, and a couple of tablets. And with an influx of smartwatches poised to arrive, Griffin’s new MultiDock seems like a reasonable accessory.

JBL Pebbles USB Speakers are Perfect for SpongeBob SquarePants

JBL has unveiled a new set of USB-powered speakers called Pebbles. The speakers have an interesting design that looks a lot like a snail shell – enough like a snail shell to make Gary the Snail jealous.

spongebob jbl

The JBL Pebbles speakers have their odd looking snail shell style because they’re designed to be laid flat on their side or stood on the flat bottom section vertically. Inside the snail shell cases are a pair 50 mm drivers. Some room inside the case is also used for a bass reflex zone to help improve low-end response.

The speakers have a built-in DAC which supports 16-bit 48 kHz audio – this allows the speakers to skip over your computer’s built in audio circuitry, feeding a digital signal directly to the speakers. Audiophiles hoping for 24-bit quality may be disappointed, but for most of us the speakers should provide plenty of audio quality.

The speakers are USB powered so they need no external power adapter, and have an extra 3.5mm audio input for other devices. The Pebbles are available in black or white each with orange USB cables and orange accents on the bottom.  The speakers will start shipping in Japan this month for approximately $60(USD).

Major Nelson: Xbox One won’t support external storage at launch

Major Nelson Xbox One won't support external storage at launch

We hope you weren’t counting on using the Xbox One’s USB ports for external storage from day one; as it turns out, you’ll likely have to be patient. Speaking at the PAX Prime expo this weekend, Microsoft’s Larry Hryb (aka Major Nelson) mentioned that external drive support wouldn’t be available at launch because the Xbox team was “working on other things.” It’s not certain when the feature will arrive, Hryb says. We’ve reached out to Microsoft to verify the statement. If it’s accurate, though, you’ll want to be cautious when filling the Xbox One’s built-in 500GB drive with Xbox Game Store downloads.

USB-powered BB Sniper Rifle: USBB Gun

If you need a new weapon for your desk and fancy yourself a sniper, this USB powered BB gun should do the trick. Shoot your co-workers and make a nuisance of yourself all day long.

bb usb 1
This USB-powered gun is made to fire BBs, but that’s not all. It also has an onboard camera above the barrel so you can use your computer screen as viewfinder. The barrel can be rotated 120 degrees horizontally, and has a 35 degree vertical range of motion. How cool is that? This sniper rifle will fire BBs at a 30m/s velocity and has about an 8m range. I’m not sure how hard that is, but it probably doesn’t feel too good to get hit with one.

Pew pew pew all day long. It is a great way to kill some time at work while pretending you are a sniper. It sells for ¥9,999 (~$101 USD) over at Shanghai Donya – which is an odd name for a store located in Japan.

USB Sniper Rifle lets you pick at colleagues from afar

usb-sniperDo you happen to have the reputation of being a practical joker at the office? If you have answered in the affirmative, then you would definitely want to check out this unique USB-powered desktop toy – which will cost you $100 after conversion, and while that might sound rather pricey, it is super cheap for a sniper rifle. Of course, this particular USB Sniper Rifle is not something that is capable of killing your target (although some of you would have preferred it to be that way), but rather, it will be able to catch some of your unsuspecting colleagues by surprise, although I am quite sure that it will not be long before they figure out that you are the culprit.

The USB Sniper Rifle is powered and aimed through the USB connection on your desktop or notebook, and it even comes with a built-in camera so that you can check out your targets on the monitor instead of having to get up and expose yourself with but a glance. Needless to say, thanks (or rather, no thanks) to the relatively short range of most USB cables, your circle of targets are limited to how far this USB cable can run, and the range of the USB Sniper Rifle itself.
