Paradise Desk Has More Ports than Your Laptop

David Wrobel designed a desk for gadget freaks, gamers and other heavy computer users. The Paradise Desk is filled with ports, power plugs and other convenient features that solve several annoyances associated with using computers or gadgets. It’s a desk, a USB hub, a power strip and more.

For starters, the Paradise Desk has seven USB 3.0 ports, three of which are in at the center of the desk. There are three more at the back and one on the upper left. On the upper right of the desk are four power outlets, while on the lower right are 3.5mm jacks for a microphone and two audio output devices.

There’s a switch on the desk for flipping between the audio outputs. You can plug in a pair of headphones and speakers at the same time, and switch between the two without unplugging one or the other.

The desk also has a DVI input and a platform for a computer tower. The cables for the various ports are hidden on swing drawers and come out of the leg near the platform. To top it all off, the surface of the desk is covered in carbon fiber vinyl and two LED light bars at the rear provide ambient light.

Pledge at least $349 (USD) on Kickstarter to get a Paradise Desk as a reward. David has more features lined up as stretch goals for his fundraiser, including an HDMI port and a cup holder. I’m surprised he doesn’t have an option to order a desk with a computer inside. Or a desk with a built-in person. That one will really take a lot of work out of our hands.

Satechi 7-Port USB 3.0 Aluminum Hub

Throughout my relatively short life, there is one lesson that I have learnt – never argue with a lady whenever she is mulling over whether to pick up that particular pair of shoes or handbag, never mind that she already has umpteenth pair of shoes and countless handbags back home. Assuming you are a geek, you might want to take your “revenge”, so to speak, in a more subtle manner by telling here that when it comes to gadgets, there are just certain items on your list that you will never compromise in not purchasing those – and one of them would definitely be a USB hub. After all, you can never have enough USB ports lying around to plug in your ever growing collection of USB-powered devices, so you might as well get the best USB hub possible at that particular point in time, no? Enter the Satechi 7-Port USB 3.0 Aluminum Hub that would certainly not look out of place in any home or office.

One thing of note though – Apple users would seem to be more suited for the Satechi 7-Port USB 3.0 Aluminum Hub, since it has the kind of external looks that are ideal for the Mac and MacBook. Boasting a sleek, compact design and additional connectivity for multiple USB-based devices that will include (but are not limited to) flash drives, printers, digital cameras, and external hard drives among others, the Satechi 7-Port USB 3.0 Aluminum Hub sports a slim, strip shape design which takes up as little room as possible on your desk, and the way it is laid out makes life a cinch when you want to plug in or remove devices in a jiffy.

Do bear in mind that the plug and play 7-Port USB 3.0 Aluminum Hub would be accompanied by its own power supply, where that would deliver speedy data rates of up to 5Gbps, which is 10 times faster compared to USB 2.0, making it a snap to transfer photos, music, and HD movies. If you are interested, the Satechi 7-Port USB 3.0 Aluminum Hub will come in a white or black trim where it will be sold for an introductory price of $54.99.

Dr Who Tardis USB 4 Port Hub

Are all USB hubs created equal? The correct answer would be, “No”, and a resounding one at that, too. After all, hardcore Dr Who fans might even start to fantasize that the £22.95 Dr Who Tardis USB 4 Port Hub which they see here is able to send them into a time warp, but even if to their great disappointment that it does not, at least you have a quartet of USB ports available for you to plug in a plethora of other devices into your PC or Mac, as and when required.

If you do not want to start off the work week on a dull note, then the Dr Who Tardis USB 4 Port Hub is your cup of tea (or coffee), as each time you plug it in, the lantern at the top will flash, alongside the classic time travelling sound effects. Needless to say, just in case the rest of your colleagues get jealous of the latest toy at the office, you can always turn off the special sound effect to annoy them less. Definitely more than capable of brightening up any work space for sure.

K-9 USB Hub: The Laser Nose Knows

Doctor Who’s dog, K-9 might look kind of cute and cuddly as robot dogs go, but he can definitely hold his own. Now, you can have K-9 standing guard over your desktop – in USB hub form.

doctor who k 9 usb

While it doesn’t contain the fount of encyclopedic knowledge of his TV doggelgänger, this K-9 USB hub can connect up to four of your devices to a single port. Unfortunately, his nose doesn’t actually fire laser beams either, but I’m sure with a little laser pointer modding, you could easily pull that off. It’s also not clear if his ear-tennae spin around, but I sure want them to.

K-9 is available for pre-order over at Entertainment Earth for $40(USD), and should ship starting this June.

Satechi 10-Port USB 3.0 Hub

When it comes to mobile accessories, you know that you can rely on certain names to deliver some of the more interesting ones out there, and Satechi would definitely rank high on my list. After all, DIY stores tend to do very well these days as folks find it better to have a closer and more emotional attachment to one’s home, especially when it comes to modifying it on their own, and I guess the same can also be said for your notebook or desktop computer, where you might never know just when you need that particular accessory to help you out of a particularly tight spot. For instance, a USB hub would come in handy for modern Ultrabooks, as these tend to be extremely stingy in the number of USB ports available, normally limited to just 2, or 3, tops. The Satechi 10-Port USB 3.0 Hub does sound like a treat then, does it not?

Coming in a classic piano black color, the Satechi 10-Port USB 3.0 Hub has been described to be a useful, multipurpose Mac or PC accessory that enables users to connect a wide array of devices, where among them include (but are not limited to) digital cameras, printers, external hard drives, keyboards, flash drives, smartphones and tablets, all in a simple and easy solution. The Satechi 10-Port USB 3.0 Hub comes in a sleek and linear design, paving the way for easy cable management, as it takes up extremely little desk space, too.

Since it sports plug and play connectivity, the 10-Port USB Hub and its 9 USB 3.0 ports will play nice with the latest USB-based devices, while carrying a solitary 2.1 Amp charging port that is located on the right hand side of the hub, making it more than suitable to juice up power hungry but depleted iPads and other Android-powered tablets. The Satechi 10-Port USB 3.0 Hub is currently going for $49.99 a pop.

A Heart-Shaped USB Hub Is Full of Love and Ports

Hearts are cheesy, sure, but they’re also fun and adorable—especially this time of year. Buy into the silliness of Valentine’s Day with these cute little USB hubs. More »

USB Toaster Hub and Drives

I know that it is elections fever over here in the US, but if there was a vote opened up for the cutest and most adorable USB hub as well as USB flash drives in the market, chances are I would put my money on the USB Toaster Hub and Drives. You will be able to choose from four different USB flash drive designs of 4GB each – Butta, Crisp, Ry Ry and Tato at £12.99 a pop, while the USB Toaster Hub itself will retail for £17.99.

Heck, the USB Toaster Hub comes with an SD memory card slot to boot for expansion purposes, allowing you to transfer files about and to manage your data right on the spot. Nice to know that the individual USB ‘toasts’ come with their very own character and color, not forgetting to mention different facial expressions. It would be interesting to see how one is going to remember the kind of information stashed away on Tato, Butta, Ry Ry and Crisp. Too bad this is a USB 2.0 product, so it is not exactly future forward, but it will do for the majority of us out there.

Lonely City USB Hub: Where Did All the People Go?

I just got a cool new laptop yesterday, and as much as I love how insanely thin and lightweight the thing is, I do find that its two USB ports aren’t enough. While there are plenty of add-on USB hubs out there, I have to say that I particularly like the playful and minimal style of the Lonely City USB hub.

lonely city usb hub 1

Designer David Weeks’ little USB city envisions an abandoned town, filled with nondescript white buidings and devoid of people – and just a handful of  blue lights glowing in a few lonely windows. That said, you can always embellish your scene with your own action figures to liven up the little city and its four USB 2.0 ports.

Personally, I think I’d add some tiny zombie action figures and recreate downtown Atlanta from season one of The Walking Dead.

[REVIEW] 3 Brando USB 3.0 hubs tested

We agree with Brando’s claim when they say USB 3.0 is poised to become mainstream. The company sent us 3 hubs to play around with and check if they are worth their salt.
These USB 3.0 4-Port Hubs are all offering 4 extension ports (backwards compatible with both USB 1.1 and USB 2.0). All three devices are compatible with both PC and MAC, except for the square model (middle one in photo above) they come with an additional power supply.

Why could you use one?
Good question! First off the …

Targus Ultralife accessories for Ultrabooks turn their noses up at lesser, non-ultrafied PC peripherals

TK Targus

If sales figures from earlier in the year are any indication, it would seem that Ultrabooks are gaining traction, so you can’t really blame accessory makers for wanting to piggyback on their success. Targus just introduced a bunch of slim, lightweight peripherals, and while you don’t have to use them with your skinny little ultraportable, the company’s marketing team really hopes you do. All told, the Ultralife line includes almost a dozen items, all of which have the same anodized bronze aluminum design and peekhole accent (looks like you’re out of luck if your laptop skews more gray). Included in the group are a 65W adapter ($70) and a $40 hub with three USB sockets and an Ethernet jack, the idea being that most Ultrabooks don’t have a wired internet connection built in. Also on tap: a polishing cloth ($10), a stylus with a magnetic holder ($20) and a slew of cases and sleeves, ranging in price from $40 to $80 (the MSRP varies depending on the material, and whether you buy it in a 13.3- or 14-inch size). Finally, the company announced a trio of wireless mice, including a plain-Jane model ($50), one with a microSD reader ($60) and one that doubles as as presenter ($90). All of these are available now, if the heavy, pedestrian mouse and USB hub you currently own just won’t do.
