If you’re an audiophile, then you’re probably not too thrilled with the audio output from most smartphones. This gadget kicks things it up a notch by transforming your phone into a mobile hi-fi system.

The V-MODA Vamp Verza case takes its cues from the original Vamp for iPhone 4/4S and includes a 150mW × 2 headphone amplifier, paired with high quality Burr Brown and AKM digital-to-analog-converters and a 2200 mAh battery pack. The Vamp Verza can be used as a hi-fi USB audio amp, and its additional battery will power your phone for another 7 hours. You can even attach your phone to the face of the Vamp, using the optional Metallo case.

V-MODA announces Vamp Verza

I am quite sure that many of us out there already know about V-MODA, the designer of award-winning audio accessories for the masses, and this time around, their creative juices have resulted in the Vamp Verza as well as Metallo case. The former is what we will be concentrating on today actually, where the Vamp Verza has been specially developed to turn your smartphone into something that it was originally not meant to be – a mobile Hi-Fi system. You know that the Vamp Verza oozes with quality, where it is designed in Italy and made in Japan, and will continue from where the original Vamp for iPhone 4/4S left off, considering how it features an integrated 150mW x 2 headphone amplifier, a pair of DAC (Digital-to-Analog Converters) and a 2200mAh battery pack. Not only that, Vamp Verza also boasts of the patent-pending Verzadock which is seamlessly integrated with popular smartphone and tablets.

You will be able to use the Vamp Verza as a standalone Hi-Fi USB Audio amplifier, or assuming you fall under the mobile audiophiles category, you can opt to dock it with the machined Metallo case that was specially built for the Samsung Galaxy S3. Make no mistake about it, there will be cases developed in the future for the Samsung Galaxy S4, Note 2 and iPhone 5, and these are set to roll out in the coming months. The Metallo case will slide and lock onto Verza’s high-performance audio engine thanks to the Verzadock rail mechanism which was designed for optimal precision and tactility. Of course, there is also the flexibility of using the case independently thanks to the included back cover, as this comes in handy whenever portability trumps function at a particular moment.

The Vamp Verza’s dedicated DACs are capable of extracting pure digital output from your computer, Android, or iOS device thanks to the USB/micro-USB, converting it into analog form for the purest mobile audio listening experience. In addition, the 2200 mAh lithium-ion battery also doubles up as a backup power source for just about any USB powered device, and it should be enough to nearly double the majority of smartphone batteries out there. Needless to say, this means the Vamp Verza is not going to come cheap at $598 a pop, where it will be globally available in Matte Black, Shadow (Red and Brushed Black Metal) and White with Orange accents.

V-moda unveils Vamp Verza: a dockable, device-agnostic headphone amp and DAC for mobile audiophiles (update: video)

Vmoda unveils Vamp Verza a dockable, device-agnostic headphone amp and DAC for mobile audiophiles

Last we heard from V-moda, the company was appealing to audiophile sensibilities with its $300 Crossfade M-100 portable headphones. Continuing in that respect, today it’s officially unveiling the Vamp Verza as a followup to last summer’s $650 iPhone 4/4S-purposed Vamp spy tool headphone amp, DAC & case combo. The aluminum-clad Verza is a device-agnostic solution that uses a sliding dock system with special $100 Metallo cases to give any supported devices a similar all-in-one feel to the original.

At launch, a GS III case is available, with an iPhone 5 model a few weeks out — the company is aiming to get GS IV and Note II cases out next. The unit’s 150mW x 2 amplifier will bypass your iDevice’s audio output via a USB port on its bottom, while an adjacent microUSB port can take advantage of the external sound card profile found in Android Jelly Bean. V-moda notes the microUSB port acts like a traditional USB audio device, so it’ll work with mostly any device. As you might guess, both ports have their own specific DACs routing audio at different power levels to its op-amp.

V-Moda Vamp Verza: The Fanciest Audio Accessory for Your Phone

Last Year, V-Moda made a specially designed headphone amp/DAC case for the iPhone. It was awesome, but way too expensive for what it did. V-Moda’s new Vamp Verza is an infinitely more flexible product you can use with iPhones and Android phones and even your computer—but it might fall flat for exactly the same reason its predecessor did. V-MODA Crossfade M-100 Review: over-ear excellence strikes again

This week we’ve had a look (or a listen, rather) to the V-MODA Crossfade M-100 over-ear headphones, the newest in a line of hardcore solutions from the team that brought you some of the best ear-blasting sound machines we’ve got in our review archives. This newest design is what the company calls “crowdsourced” as they’ve made the creation process one where more people were involved than on any previous project in the company – audiophiles, producers, editors, and DJs alike. The end product is a pair of headphones that sound just as good or better than the Limited Edition LP2s we saw last year (and the original LPs back in 2010) in a slightly more compact setup – a win win!

beappa0000

With the Crossfade M-100 model you’ve got 50MM “Dual-Diaphragm” Drivers with dual inputs at the bottom of either shell. You can plug your cord into the bottom of your rightphone and on the left you’ve got a real-deal V-CORK to seal the deal. Unlike most solutions that simply leave the second port open, V-MODA provides a couple of rubbery plastic corks you can use to keep your innards safe from environmental harm – simple and useful!

pluggedup

You’ve got hardcore quality with this set of phones as well, bringing on some rather extreme promises from the V-MODA crew, starting with kevlar-reinforced detachable cables complete with 45-degree plug strain relief – on both cords, mind you. These cords can withstand bends “more than 1 million times” according to V-MODA, this being, again according to the company, “over 100x industry standards.”

orange

Both cords are rather fabulous to work with, also, one of them a “SharePlay” audio cable that’s able to bust out another port right through the first, the other a SpeakEasy mic cable that allows you to work with a built-in microphone solution. The color scheme here is black and orange – if you didn’t already notice – this a rather unique way of providing differentiation at first glance from earlier models and bringing on one of three different color combinations.

port

You’ve got a choice between Matte Black, Shadow, and White Silver combinations – and like previous V-MODA over-ear solutions, you also get extra shield customizability as well. While there aren’t replacement shields in the box like there were for the LP2 Limited Edition model, you can order extras when you head to the V-MODA online store – and get custom engravings, as well. You’ll be paying $310 USD for the phones themselves, then a shield kit will cost you an additional $25.

folded

These phones extend out for the largest of heads and fold up and in with V-MODA’s own “CliqFold” system to get as small as possible for easy mobility. You also get a shell for extra protection and portability, this holding every bit of gear you get in the box. You’ll also find that you’re getting a 2 Year + Immortal Life 50% deal with this purchase as well – that’s V-MODA’s way of saying “thank you” for joining their team – discounts forever.

shell

These phones work with frequency response between 5 and 30 kHz and have a sensitivity of 103 dB @ 1kHz 1mW. The Crossfade M-100s are the highest quality headphones V-MODA has ever offered, audio and all. Here you’ll find that the biggest difference between the LP2 model we’ve heard before and the M-100 is the base, first of all – when the deepness matters the most, a round punch in the drum is what you’ll heard the hardest on the M-100s.

In the end, it’s all about refinement. V-MODA’s Crossfade M-100 headphones are the finest combination of sound quality, tactile quality, and comfort I’ve experienced at this price range in a pair of headphones – only the LP2s come close. These headphones will be your go-to choice for everyday listening and will be the pair you grab when you’re about to board a 10 hour overseas flight – I know I will.

V-Moda Crossfade M-100 Review: Indestructible Headphones You’ll Either Love or Hate [Lightning Review]

While all great headphones have personality, V-Moda’s new Crossfade M-100s are a rare breed. You’re either going to fall in love with their distinctive sound and roughneck build—or you’ll think they’re egregiously over the top. More »

V-MODA Crossfade M-100 crowdsourced headphones blast forth

Today is the day that V-MODA reveals their next big hit with the Crossfade M-100 metal, customizable, over-ear headphones to add to their fabulous series of audio products we’ve had a peek at more than once. This new design features a “crowdsourced” set of features made by V-MODA’s “collective brain trust of audiophiles, editors, producers, and DJs”, here bringing together what the company assures is their most powerful set of blasters yet. This release works with what V-MODA says is “the most unique design process” they’ve ever made happen.

The M-100 will be rocking forth with 50mm Dual-Diaphragm Drivers (patent-pending) as well as a completely real sound – no artificial sound processing, that is. You’ve got dual-inputs with the group’s own V-CORK seals (also patent-pending) with a package that includes two kevlar-reinforced cables (not unlike their previous releases). This is included in an exoskeleton case that we’ve also praised in the past, ready to keep your headphones secure and safe when you travel.

“This collaboration is one of the most unique design processes I’ve ever been a part of. Once the word started to spread on M-100, forum discussions exploded with exceptional feedback vital to the development of the product. Our research and development labs consisted not of corporate marketing and finance departments, but rather the most passionate headphone consumers, musicians and DJs across the globe. M-100 is a progeny of audio enthusiasts worldwide – truly built by the people, for the people.” – Val Kolton, Chief Visionary Officer at V-MODA

This release includes a SharePlay extended audio cable as well as a universally compatible SpeakEasy microphone cable that will work with the iPhone, iPad, Android phones and tablets, and Windows devices of all kinds. The folding mechanism that makes these headphones unique on another level is what they call CLIQFOLD – we’ll see how that works in person soon enough. These headphones also come with a variety of quality assurances.

MIL-STD-810G and V-MODA Quality

• Survives 70+ drops on concrete
• Virtually indestructible SteelFlex Headband
• Minimal sound variances from unit to unit checked along six parts of the sound curve versus 10-30dB+ of inferior products
• Kevlar-reinforced detachable cables and 45-degree plug strain relief can each bend more than 1 million times, over 100x industry standards
• MIL-STD-810G environmental tests including high and low temperatures, humidity, salt spray and UV exposure

You’ll be able to pick up the V-MODA Crossfade M-100 package rather soon for $300 USD in Matte Black Metal, Shadow, or White Silver from retailers nationwide. If you pick up the pre-order set from V-MODA.com for $310, you can get an extra set of personalized shields (the metal bit that sits in the middle outside of the phones) as well as a set of Faders VIP Tuned Earplugs. Grab em all!

Have a peek at our timeline of V-MODA products below in a variety of reviews and let us know if you plan on picking up the M-100 package too!

V-Moda’s M-100 headphones get priced at $300, will ship ‘in time for the holidays’

It wasn’t long ago when we got an early look an listen to a near-final version of V-Moda’s audiophile-tuned M-100 lifestyle headphones — and now, after months of crowd-sourcing feedback, the company is finally green-lighting mass production. You may recall that pricing and availability hadn’t been set, but now the company has confirmed that the fashionable metal-clad cans will be ready by the holidays, priced at a cool $300. As a refresher, that dollar amount snags you the foldable mil-spec 810G-rated headphones themselves, a hard-shell case, a duo of 3.5mm cables (one with a single button remote / mic, and another with an auxiliary output), corks for both cable inputs on the earcups and a quarter-inch adapter. You’ll have a choice in color between white with gray, black with red (pictured) and matte black with an orange cable, while adding in an extra 10 bucks also lets you add-on a second set of customizable back-plate ‘shields’ and its Fader earplugs. If you’re eager to ensure you’ll have your own pair once the M-100 headphones are ready to ship, they’ll be up for pre-order by day’s end at the source link below. You’ll find more details in the press release after the break — and don’t forget to peruse our detailed ears-on and interview with owner Val Kolton from last week while you make up your mind.
