The Aeyo will grab attention, though not in the way you’d want it to

aeyo_white
If they build it, someone will buy it. There are a ton of products out there that you really have to question the reason why it was created. Maybe it fit a certain person’s specific needs, and they thought it was wonderful enough that other people would want it too. However, when those items are higher priced, it becomes questionable as to why it was created.

The Aeyo might have tons of health benefits and make it easier to get from point A to B, but it looks a bit silly. This is a scooter and in-line skating combination that looks very awkward. While the price tag is at around $611, it will make you look toward cheaper options, as you could just as easily get a bicycle, scooter, or a regular pair of in-line skates that will do the exact same thing.

This is very easy to strap into and get out of, as it uses Velcro straps which can be placed over your shoes. There are two sizes available for this, as well as six different color schemes to choose from. While you will get a bit more stability, a headlight, and possibly more exercise out of this, it will undoubtedly be annoying to carry around. As it is not something that is known to the masses, you will also receive a multitude of quizzical stares. Either way, it would be fun to go on an excursion with.

World’s Fastest Amphibious Car makes James Bond envious

amphibious-carI am quite sure that those of us who grew up on a steady diet of James Bond films would have seen the many kinds of amazing technical wizardry that the British superspy was endowed with, where we would have killed to be in such a position in real life. Imagine having suave good looks, fantastic gadgets to play with, and of course, a license to kill in the name of national security. It seems that what was once deemed to be fictional is now a reality in the form of the $135,000 Amphibious Car, which has been touted to be the fastest of its kind in the world.

The self-proclaimed “World’s Fastest Amphibious Car” is no slouch when it is in the water, where it is more than capable of speeding on such a surface at 44 mph. Should you still fail to shake your enemies from behind you and have already made your way to the asphalt, then fret not, as this ride will be able to hit a stride of 80 mph on the road. Underneath the hood of the Amphibious Car lies a 300-hp Honda engine, where the entire shebang works like a standard vehicle on land thanks to its four-speed manual transmission, four-wheel disc brakes, lights, turn indicators, and a folding windshield. Should you find a need to enter the water, an integrated hydraulic wheel retraction system will raise the wheels above the bottom of the hull. Sounds like a dream ride to many of us, no?

AlphaTherm will remove the ice from your windshield with minimal effort

AlphaTherm
While snow is beautiful during and after its fall, it is an absolute pain should it melt and freeze. Things were bad enough when you have the extra task of shoveling out your driveway in the mornings, but having to scrap ice off of your windshield can make any day feel like Monday. Not only does it require you to be up far earlier than normal, but it can also be dangerous if you’re not dressed properly.

The only way you can fully avoid having to deal with snow and ice on your vehicle is keeping it in a garage. Of course, not all of us have that luxury. However, there are ways to make this particular task far easier, with things like the AlphaTherm Windshield Washer Fluid Heater available. This isn’t just something you can open the box and use, but once installed it will make life much easier should the weather decide to rain on your parade.

This hooks up to your vehicle’s factory installed system, and will start up whenever you turn on your car. The washer fluid will get up to 125-135 degrees Fahrenheit, but will only be enough to spray for about three seconds. To get an effectively heated spray again, you’ll want to wait about 10-20 seconds. Not only will this take the manual labor out of cleaning the ice off of your car, it will also help in the summer and spring with bird droppings, grease, and smudges. You can deactivate it if you’d like, but it will take a small amount of effort. This will cost you around $100, and requires about 30 minutes of setup.

Fancy driving your car using your brain alone?

thought-carDriving a car has become second nature to many of us, and sometimes, it tends up as a reflex action that we do not pay too much attention to – which is a good thing most of the time, although there are moments when we take this particular moment for granted and start to focus on doing another thing such as checking out our e-mail, only to realize that we might have stepped on the brake a little too late shortly after, resulting in a fender bender afterwards. Well, I guess this is why a driverless car makes plenty of sense, although I am quite sure that it could prove rather disconcerting to some that you do not have full control over the vehicle in which you are traveling in. How about driving a car with your thoughts alone? Don’t you think that this would be cool beyond words?

This is what a bunch of engineering students over in India are working on. At Mount Zion College of Engineering and Technology, this particular project would involve converting a small van into a computer controlled vehicle, where the Emotiv EEG headset would function as a controller. We are talking about using off-the-shelf parts here, people, in order to get the job done – now how about that?

Of course, there are still plenty of questions which are left unanswered as at press time, as this particular concept would take years of refinement for it to become safe enough to drive. The thing is, how are we to know that our brain is able to tell the difference between switching gears and turning left while we are pre-occupied with the goings on at the office? What do you think of this proposition – does it sit down well with you? Do you think this is a better idea than a self-driving car?

Magnic Light iC – magnets…how do they work?

Magnic Light ic
Traveling by bicycle is easy and low-cost, so you would think that everyone would be doing it. However, it does take some coordination, more time to travel to and fro, and is far more dangerous than being in a vehicle. They don’t come with standard lights or temperature control either, but if you know how to dress properly for the weather and purchase a decent set of lights, you should be alright.

Finding the right lighting equipment to put on your bike can be annoying. Batteries need to be kept up with, mounting is a pain, and some have cables you need to worry about. The Magnic iC is certainly going to change all that. This is a light that is powered by your cycling, and doesn’t touch your wheel, give you any cables to mess with, or provide you with any resistance while you ride. The best part is that you’ll never have to worry about batteries ever again!

This has a very bright LED light that will keep steady while you ride or slow to a stop. It runs on a little generator full of magnets, that needs to be near a wheel that has aluminum rims. Getting a set for the the front and back of your bike will cost you around $180, and as this crowdfunding campaign is about to reach a stretch goal, all lights will probably come with an anti-theft system which you can mount.

Onewheel is a self-balancing skateboard that will let you soar on the streets

Onewheel
Riding a bicycle or skateboard to and from your destinations is an environmentally friendly and healthy way to travel. However, not everyone possesses the skills necessary to balance themselves atop two wheels or a board. If you like the idea, but don’t think it’s possible for you, then you’ve likely looked into some other people-mover options that can balance themselves, and don’t require gas for fuel.

The Onewheel is one such option, but is far more portable and looks cooler than a Segway. This resembles a skateboard, but only has one go-kart type wheel in the middle. It can balance itself, and thanks to it’s cushy wheel you won’t feel any bumps or protuberances while on the road or sidewalk. Those who have ridden it say it’s similar to riding on a wave or fresh snow. It’s capable of going up to twelve miles per hour, and your speed is controlled by leaning forward or backward. Should you choose, you can even go in reverse!

It only takes 2 hours to recharge, and as it is minute-for-minute recharging, I assume that’s also its battery life. There is a fast charging cable available that will juice up the Onewheel in about 20 minutes, but it will undoubtedly cost more. It has a weight limit of around 250 pounds, and can’t go on an incline larger that 10%, as the front of the board goes down to move forward. This will cost you around $1,400, and is currently a successful crowdfunding campaign.

Five Person Exploration Submarine lets you shoot your own underwater movies

five-person-submersibleI suppose if you have a cool $2,700,000 to splurge on the Five Person Exploration Submarine, it would not be too much to ask to pick up a specialized, waterproof camera that can shoot the depths of the ocean. Then again, if you happen to own this particular Five Person Exploration Submarine, you can bring another four people along with you to check out what the underwater world has to offer, all without getting wet in the process, not to mention having to done an uncomfortable wet suit along the way. Sip on champagne and munch on cheese while you see the creatures of the deep swimming, oblivious to your presence.

This five-person submersible has the ability to descend to a depth of 656 feet, allowing it to access reefs, wrecks, and rare underwater species. All of the explorers within will remain safe inside a climate-controlled 3.25″ thick acrylic pressure sphere which makes it possible to carry out conversations without batting an eyelid, which is a whole lot different from scuba diving. Do not worry about safety, since this particular craft will be able to meet all the safety guidelines of the International Maritime Organization, and it has been classified by Germanischer Lloyd with a couple of independent life support systems which offer data on depth, internal pressure, temperature, battery status, thruster status and trim tanks status. This is one of the very definition of a “big boy’s toy”.

Wahoo Fitness announces the RPM Cadence Sensor

wahooWahoo Fitness has come up with yet another device for fitness buffs, which is the RPM Cadence Sensor. This is a lightweight and hassle free manner of tracking cycling cadence. It sports a convenient magnet-less installation and feather light weight of just seven grams, allowing the RPM to be attached to any bicycle in a jiffy as it shows off cadence data through the use of popular cycling apps. If you want to pick up the RPM, it will be available for $49.99 a pop, or you can opt for it to be bundled with the RFLKT Smart Bike Computer for $149.99.

Just how will the RPM Cadence Sensor work? For starters, it will be able to hook up wirelessly to the user’s iOS device thanks to Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity, where it will then be able to send cadence data to top cycling apps such as Wahoo Fitness (but of course), Strava and MayMyRide. Being different from the majority of speed and cadence sensors, RPM happens to be magnet-less, which translates to an easy setting up experience. LED lights will flash whenever it is connected to depict the fact that a wireless connection has been established, making sure that you know right from the very beginning that data is being actively logged. Apart from that, there is also no need to juice up the sensor at all, as it will be able to run on a single coin cell battery for up to two years so that the sensor can remain on the user’s bike between rides.

Among the features that can be found in the Wahoo Fitness RPM Cadence Sensor would include the ability to pair itself up with the Wahoo Fitness app in addition to other popular cycling apps, and being compatible with the iPhone 4s, 5, 5s, 5c, iPod touch (5th generation), and iPad (3rd and 4th generation). This should be a “must have” purchase for any cycling enthusiast who wants to up his or her game.

The 7-In-1 Emergency Auto Tool will help you be prepared for the worst

7-In-1 emergency vehicle tool
There are many things that can go wrong when you’re driving a car, ranging from part malfunctions to totaling your vehicle. When the weather out is poor, this makes your chances of a misfortune even higher. While there’s only so much you can do to prevent these things from happening, the best you can do is be prepared for if or when things go sour.

While you might already have some tools handy in your vehicle that will help you in emergency situations, it’s always nice when you have a multi-tool that can do everything you need it to if not more. The 7-in-1 Emergency Auto tool is one such device. It can save you in a wreck, help you know when to refill your tires with air, and gives you a flashlight.

This has a glass breaker with a spring-loaded mechanism that only requires you to press it up against the glass, and it will shatter your vehicle’s window, giving you a way out if you need it. There is also a seat belt cutter, sonic alarm, flashing red emergency beacon, LED flashlight, digital tire gauge, and a thermometer. It does need a A23/12V battery, but it is easy to replace. The best part of this is that it is small enough to fit on your keychain, or be shoved into your glove compartment if you prefer. It only costs $30, and could be very useful if the occasion arose.
