Genius DVR-HD500D Dual Lens Vehicle Recorder settles accident disputes once and for all

genius-dvr-hd500dHave you ever been involved in a fender bender before? Whenever there are no other eyewitnesses around other than you and the other person in the vehicle, it is only your word and the other person’s after lodging an accident report. If only there was a way for the authorities to see that you were totally not at fault apart from a verbal presentation. That is made possible with vehicle recorders, but the folks over at Genius have gone one step further with the Genius DVR-HD500D Dual Lens Vehicle Recorder that has just been announced to go for sale in North America.

The Genius DVR-HD500D Dual Lens Vehicle Recorder will see a couple of vehicle recorders, connected via a cable, do a fantastic job of making sure that nothing goes unnoticed in the event of an accident. There will be one recorder that is located on the front windshield, where it will record in 720p, while there will be another one that is located on the rear windshield, recording in 480p so that you have both ends covered. The Genius DVR-HD500D will be able to record road conditions that are both in front and behind the vehicle, simultaneously, where its 130 degree wide angle view and high-definition video capture would pave the way for excellent video quality during playback – which is extremely crucial when you need to pony up evidence that it is not your fault in an accident.

It made me wonder actually, how come standard vehicle recorders will only capture what is in front, and not behind? Looks like the folks over at Genius have already answered this particular issue, and just so that you know, the rear recorder will be hooked up to the DVR via a 19 feet long cable. Each time your vehicle is started, the recording will commence automatically, which means that all important evidence will be retained. All data will be stashed away on a microSDHC memory card, and the Genius DVR-HD500D will retail for $169 if you’re interested.

The Authentic 1966 Batmobile can be yours for just $200,000

1966-batmobileI still cannot believe my eyes that the folks over at Hammacher have managed to get hold of what they have described as “The Authentic 1966 Batmobile”, having slapped a $200,000 price tag on it along the way. In fact, just how authentic is it? Apparently, the entire ride was so accurate in comparison to the original, that it took nearly a year to complete, making this an officially licensed, roadworthy replica of the Batmobile that was originally featured in the iconic 1960s TV show.

Specially built on a custom Lincoln chassis, this is one crime-fighting cruiser that allows the driver to dress up as Batman, but I would strongly suggest you work on your detective skills before driving this puppy around lest the bad guys in your ‘hood figure out that you’re a phony. Underneath the hood of this Batmobile lies a 430-horsepower, 383 Blueprint Crate engine and a Monster TH350 automatic transmission. The vehicle’s cockpit will also pay homage to the TV series by being equipped with a blinking Batphone, switch-operated electric actuators that will open up the hood and trunk, as well as a rotating red beacon so that citizens will be alerted that you are hot in pursuit of fiendish criminals. Will it be able to pick up the chicks? Trade $200,000 for it to find out!

Rearview Bike Camera makes riding safer on the roads

rearview-bike-cameraThere is a reason why we call it an “accident” – you simply do not plan for it, and neither do you go sniffing out for one. When it comes to an activity like cycling, apart from following all of the road rules to the letter and wearing the relevant safety gear, there is still the inherent risk of some driver who failed to notice you and ploughs into your lane, giving you a near heart attack at the same time. Hence, it is important to have eyes even at your back – and this is where the $199.99 Rearview Bike Camera comes in handy.

The next time you are about to head out for a ride, do not forget to go along with the Rearview Bike Camera so that it offers you an increased awareness of your surroundings. The rear-facing camera and LCD viewing display will give you the ability to monitor approaching vehicles constantly without having to take the risk of losing your balance simply because you have to turn your head to the back. Not only that, the Rearview Bike Camera will also increase your visibility on the road to other motorists thanks to 10 flashing red LEDs which will turn themselves on in low light conditions automatically. A full charge would be able to deliver approximately 10 hours of operation time for this weather-resistant system.

iOauto Pro is a custom made car mount for your gadgets

iOauto
Driving down the road with your GPS or smartphone perched precariously on the dashboard of your vehicle is always a tad dangerous. There are unknown factors lurking around every turn that can send it flying. Swerving to miss a careless driver, animals, debris, starting to drift off to sleep are just a few examples. Any of which could make your knee-jerk reaction of trying to catch it a major health hazard. Even when you’re using a mount that is weighted, has suction cups, a clip, or any other method that ‘guarantees’ it will stay doesn’t normally fit all situations.

On those days of strange weather which makes things too dry, humid, cold, hot, or otherwise, all of the previously listed mounts find a way to let fly your gizmo. The iOauto is hoping to stand above the rest, as it doesn’t rely on a possibly-faulty method of adhesion. This uses custom-made car clips that will allow you to fasten the vehicle mount to your car without the use of glue, drilling, or suctions cups. It is make, model, and year specific, so there’s no chance of it coming undone.

To mount your device, you’ll be using a razor-thin steel iOadapt that attaches to the back. It’s a simple magnet, but it should keep everything in place until you decide to move it. Simply toss it on when you’re ready to take off, and give it a tug when you leave your vehicle. The clip for my type of vehicle in addition to the iOauto/Pro is $70-80 (price may vary depending on your type of vehicle). There are many cheaper options out there, but as a person who has been through all different types of car mounts, this seems to be the most stable option I’ve come across.

Sidewalk Scribbling Scooter – start ‘em young artistically

sidewalk-scribblerI still remember when there was this particular craze of scooters that took off, and all the little kids as well as teens wanted a scooter of their own. As a young adult who had just joined the working world back then, I too, was extremely tempted to pick up one of these scooters myself. Well, the craze did die off somewhat, and there was the Heelys craze that took over after that, but I decided to give that a miss as it looked way too silly for me. Well, here is a scooter that you can purchase for your little one to have them take a stab at some fun when getting around, although there is an added twist to the $44.95 Sidewalk Scribbling Scooter.

The Sidewalk Scribbling Scooter happens to be a child’s scooter that sports integrated chalk holders, allowing the rider to actually create art on sidewalks as well as driveways. It has a patented “tilt to turn” steering system that is formed by its twin front wheels, delivering the necessary stability for young riders up to 45 lbs., whereas there is a single rear wheel that offers the relevant smooth gliding. A couple of coiled springs in the rear will be able to secure separate pieces of chalk which will mark the ground in twin streaks of color as long as the rider scoots over pavement, asphalt, or concrete. Do you think that this could be the stepping stone to vandalism?

Kenguru – Wheels, for those Who Need Wheels

kep2

My favorite uncle is in a wheelchair full-time. It is the unfortunate result of being struck by a drunk driver while loading groceries into the trunk of his car. It is so easy to look beyond the chair when dealing with him, he is so happy, energetic and willing to try just about anything. The only time he admits to feeling a little less than independent is when it comes time to get in a car. Trips to the grocery store are never just a quick in and out for him. I wish there was something to make him be able to get out more, on his own.

Check out Kenguru, the first ever electric automobile made specifically for folks in wheelchairs. The Kenguru is designed just for people like my Uncle Carl, people who want to get around town without assistance from anyone. The Kenguru is driven directly from the wheelchair, simply drive on in via the rear-opening tailgate and lock yourself in. (a ramp lowers for you when you open the door at the press of a button) Steering is accomplished by motorcycle-style handlebar, with a joystick option coming soon.

The vehicle is small enough and designed so that you can park the Kenguru with its rear end to the pavement for easy access, and the back door will shut when the key is placed in the ignition. The Kenguru won’t start however until the chair is locked into place and the door is fully closed.

Right now the Kenguru is available in the UK and there, it is classified as a scooter (so only a scooter license is required) The Kenguru travels about 60 miles on a single charge, but it only hits speeds around 30 miles an hour. (so highway driving is not allowed) The Kenguru will be available here in the U.S, and worldwide for around 25 thousand bucks! Check kenguru.com for more information.

Hamaka Trailer Hitch Stand and Chair Combo – just lounging around

Trailer+Hitch+Stand+and+Chair+Combo
During the warmer months, it makes sense that we would want to soak up as much sun and fun as possible. Winter is long and dreary, so we need plenty of happy memories to get us to the next summer. There are all sorts of leisure activities to indulge in, such as swimming, canoeing, campfires, and more. Of course, we need all the right tools to make things perfect.

If you’re more of a fan of just sitting around, you want to be certain you have a comfy place to do it. When there is demand, there will always be supply, and thus the Hammaka Trailer Hitch Stand and Hammock Chair Combo was created. It’s perfect for tailgating parties, drive-in movies, and sitting by the lake. The frame is made of powder coated steel, and has hammocks made with braided cotton rope. This setup can hold up to 250 pounds per seat, but obviously this thing is only built for two.

It’s not terribly expensive at only around $300, which will include the frame, and two hammock seats. This will mount onto your truck or RV, and comes with a carrying case for when it’s not in use. While this would be pretty awesome in quite a few scenarios, I think going with a regular chair would do just as well. That will also keep you from the temptation of wanting to ride on this while someone is cruising down the road.

Can be purchased at Wayfair, found via thisiswhyimbroke

iTrail – Keeping Tabs on your Car, Kids, or Keys.

Unknown-1

My daughter’s only 10, but already I imagine the day she starts to hang out alone with friends, or worse… starts to drive . Who among us doesn’t have a horror story that involves a teen driver? Unfortunately, I remember being a teen (keep your snickering to yourself) and I couldn’t imagine anything bad ever happening to me. I took chances I shouldn’t have, and while I’m still around, I know kids who weren’t so lucky. Is there a way to keep kids safe, when driving, or even just shopping around the local mall?

Well, in order to make an impression, I believe parents need to know whats going on, and iTrail may be the gadget that can keep them informed. iTrail is a small, lightweight, and waterproof multi-use GPS tracker. Designed to be carried in a pocket, dangled from a pet, keychain, or attched to a car, bike or motorcycle via an optional magnetic case, the iTrail can keep track of almost anything worth keeping track of. iTrail can provide concerned parents (or pet owners) with real-time tracking, location history and speed monitoring. iTrail logs this information and then displays it on an easy-to-use PC interface powered by Google Maps and Google Earth.

I know that some applications for the iTrail feel dangerously like spying, and folks may feel that some of these new technologies really infringe on privacy, but I’m not sure where I weigh in on this debate. I do know that there are certainly some parents, that in hindsight, would have done anything to keep their child safe. iTrail can record for about 120 hours, requires no subscription, and is available for under 190 bucks (with the magnetic case) from amazon.com. So please tell me, just how far, is too far when keeping tabs on your kids? and what if it were an employee or a spouse?

Rubbee transforms your normal bicycle into an electric one

rubbeeThere are bicycles, and then there is the next step up – electric bicycles, which would definitely come in handy especially when you live in extremely hilly areas such as San Francisco. Of course, purists would want to argue against the presence of electric bicycles in the market, touting that it takes away the experience of pushing your physical self to the limit, but others who are more practical would not mind getting some assistance from technological advancements, too. The thing is, purchasing an electric bicycle outright from the market could be pretty expensive, as the cost could run into a few thousand for the higher end models, which is why the Rubbee device that you see here – a Kickstarter project that is extremely close to achieving its funding goal with four days left, could be a viable alternative.

The Rubbee is an easy conversion device which will be able to transform your current, manually powered (pedal powered in other words) bicycle into an electric one, taking just a matter of seconds to get the job done. The Rubbee would tip the scales at just 14 lbs, and it is capable of offering assistance as you cycle for up to 15 miles of travel on a full charge, hitting a top speed of 15 mph along the way, courtesy of its integrated battery pack which carries a full charge of 20,000 mAh. The Rubbee will take approximately 2 hours to fully juice up, so you can always do so at the end of the day so that it can be ready to jump into action the next morning.

Installation of the Rubbee is simple and painless – you need not have to tinker around with wires and tools the way a standard conversion kit requires you to, but rather, it boasts of a design which was specially intended to reduce wear on your bike’s wheel, where kinetic force will then charge the Rubbee’s battery pack, and if you need a break during the ride, you can also ensure that the tire does not touch the Rubbee. Would the £799 price tag slapped on the Rubbee hold you back from picking one up?

Front and Rear Recording Dash Cam captures both points of view

front-and-rear-dash-cam

When you’re driving in your car, the last thing you ever want is to get in a wreck. Good, defensive driving helps avoid collisions, but sometimes things are completely out of your hands. In those cases, it’s good to have a recording of what happened, in case there is a dispute over the fault of the accident. Dash cams have become increasingly popular in the last few years, but they really only capture one point of view. If you’re hit from the rear, that’s not going to be seen. What you need is a cam that can look both directions.

As its name implies, this Front and Rear Recording Dash Cam is going to record more than one perspective. It doesn’t actually have to only face front and rear, though. The unit features two separate lenses, which can each be rotated 180 degrees. If you want, you could have one facing out each side window, or any combination, really. There’s even a display on the front to show you what’s being recorded, so that you know you’ve got the cameras angled just the way you want.

The camera will need to stay plugged into your cigarette lighter to stay powered up, and it comes with a 4GB microSD memory card, which will keep about 2 hours worth of footage. It will accept cards up to 32GB in size, for up to 16 hours of recording. If you want one of these for your car, you’ll be looking at spending around $200.
