The Ferrari LaFerrari was unveiled at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show and while its name is a bit odd, it is packed with technology to beat any car on the road. It features a 949 hp hybrid powertrain, which is supposed to produce breakneck acceleration. The power comes from a 789-hp 6.3-liter V12 engine mated with a 161-hp electric motor. This bad boy will rev up to 9,250 RPM and produce 664 lb-ft of torque, reaching a top speed of 217 miles per hour.

The LaFerrari is selling for about €1 million (~$1.3 million USD). But before you get out your checkbooks, Ferrari will produce only 499 models of this car, and there are already about 700 standing orders, meaning that this car has completely sold out.

The Aston Martin of Strollers is Actually an Aston Martin

Aston Martin does make some beautiful cars, but let’s be honest, not many people can afford them. Maybe that’s the reason why you should get your baby the Aston Martin of strollers. Yes, Aston Martin actually makes a stroller – and it might be the only way you can ever afford an Aston.

Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG 6×6: When 4×4 Isn’t Enough

There are a plenty of places in the world that need 4×4s to get around. In some places, that’s just not enough. That’s probably why Mercedes-Benz came up with this 6×6 off-roader, which promises to be the most rugged Merc you’ve ever seen.

The Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG 6×6 was probably built for multi-millionaires and super-villains, with secret lairs far away from the beaten path. Or maybe Saudi oil princes, wanting to get around in the desert.

The 8300 pound G63 AMG 6×6 comes with six massive 37-inch wheels for more traction, a twin-turbocharged 5.5L AMG V8 that produces 536HP, a seven-speed automatic transmission and naturally, all-wheel drive, all resulting in a whopping 560-lb-ft of torque.

The interior is quite luxurious, featuring Alcantara and leather, sports seats, and everything you’d expect from a high-end Merc.

You’ll have to pay about $525,000(USD) to get yours, but act quickly, because they’re only making 20 to 30 of these each year.

Continental Introduces Tires That Warn You Of Vehicle Overloading

Continental Introduces Tires That Warn You Of Vehicle Overloading

Continental has been stepping up its line of products as it already delivers tires which are equipped with a sensor that tells the user just how much air pressure is currently in the tire. It looks like they’re taking their tire tech one step further with a new sensor that can calculate and report the current load weight of your vehicle to help drivers keep from accidentally exceeding the suggested capacity.

The way the tires work is by recognizing how much weight is on them from how much of its surface area is touching the ground, which is known as the contact patch. The sensors detect the size of the contact patch and determines whether or not your vehicle has been overloaded. This sensor can certainly be helpful for SUV owners as their vehicles are often overloaded due to their size, and are top-heavy, which means the combination of an overloaded vehicle and a sharp turn can turn tragic very quickly. Tesla Model S Plays Any Song You Want from the Internet

The Tesla Model S is an undeniably cool vehicle. The car looks great and has zero emissions while offering very impressive performance. The car has been dinged in recent reviews over its driving distance, but any purely electric vehicle will produce range anxiety. Tesla CEO Elon Musk recently showed off a relatively unknown feature that the Model S offers.

model+s+sport

It turns out that the high-tech car will play any song you ask for whenever you ask for it. You don’t have to have the music on a connected iPod or smartphone either. You simply press the steering wheel button, tell the car what song you want to hear, and Musk says the car will go on the Internet, find a stream of the song, and begin playing it immediately – presumably using the car’s built-in 3G data connection.

From the video demo, it appears that the whole process happens impressively fast. I’ve owned a car with the Ford Sync system in the past that would play songs from my iPhone using voice commands, and the delay for that system and a local device appears to be about as long as the Model S needs to grab a song from the Internet.

Volvo Introducing High Beams That Shade Light To Other Vehicles

Volvo Introducing High Beams That Shade Light To Other Vehicles

Driving in the middle of the night can already pose enough of a challenge to navigate through as a number of people aren’t even supposed to be driving due to the limited visibility. Driving while a car as large as a yacht behind you with its high beams on can make it even more challenging, but a new car feature will be introduced at next week’s Geneva Motor Show that could make the use of high beams less of a distraction for drivers in front of your vehicle.

Volvo will be introducing its Active High Beam Control which installs a mechanical system in a vehicle’s headlamps that has the ability to block your light from distracting oncoming traffic or cars in front of you.

The way the Active High Beam Control works is through a camera which is already installed in Volvo’s rear-view mirror for its detection and auto-braking system. The camera can detect other vehicles and calculate the area that should be shaded within a 1.5-degree margin. Once the system tags a vehicle that should be shaded, tiny metallic cylinders cover the light to shade the appropriate area.

If Batman Played Golf, This Is Probably What He’d Drive

As badass as the various Batmobiles have been over the years, no self-respecting country club would ever let one of them onto their courses. So if the Dark Knight were to ever slip away in the middle of the night to relax with a round of golf, the Mansory Currus is definitely what he’d be driving. More »

EGO Personal Semi-Submarine: No, Mr. Bond, I Expect You to Dive.

I’ve probably watched too many James Bond movies, but a personal submarine sounds pretty cool, no matter what. While this started out as a concept a couple of years ago, it’s actually available for purchase now.

roanhaje ego personal semi submarine boat

The EGO was designed by the Korean firm Raonhaje and they claim it the “world’s first compact semi-submarine.” This boat gives passengers the opportunity to observe underwater life via an enclosed core that’s always submerged under the water. I guess you’ll also be able to see sharks coming without having to put on your scuba gear. The upper deck of the boat allows passengers to enjoy the surface of the water as well.

It’s powered by twelve 8-volt marine batteries, and run for four to eight hours on a single charge.

You’ll have to contact Raonhaje in order to get a price for your own semi-submarine, and you can also try it out if you’re in Korea or there’s a dealer nearby.

Rinspeed microMAX EV: The “Urban Swarm” Vehicle

As time goes by, we are getting closer to a time when more and more vehicle will be connected to the Internet. This new concept vehicle will debut at the 2013 Geneva Auto Show and it’s basically a fleet of “cloud-connected” cars that can be communally shared.

rinspeed micromax ev concept

The microMAX EV concept was created by Rinspeed and Harman. This electric vehicle measures just 12 feet in length, and works off an motor with an output of 28 kW and a range of 100 km. The system running the car will allow you to access navigation data from other vehicles in real time. Using other cars connected in the urbanSWARM community, the system will be able to modify its routes dynamically to account for current traffic conditions – as reported by the other cars in the network.

Once you are part of the community, you can access any of these microMAX EVs, which isn’t a bad idea. The community has access to detailed ride data, including data such as the number of passengers and traveling speeds of each vehicle. As an added bonus, passengers in the microMAX have access to an on-board coffee maker and a fridge for refreshments while in transit.

Only time will tell if this is the vehicle of the future, or just another fanciful concept design.

Volkswagen XL1: 261-MPG Hybrid Car to Become Production Reality

There’s something quite amazing about hybrid and electric vehicles, especially if you tend to pile on the miles each and every week. At some point, you become interested in cutting down on costs, spending less on fuel, and being more mindful of the environment. The Volkswagen XL1 takes it up a notch in all of these areas.

volkswagen xl1 hydrid car

The Volkswagen XL1 has a futuristic body, that’s got a certain appeal to it. It runs off a 27hp electric engine and a 47hp two-cylinder TDI engine. It definitely looks futuristic, and while you won’t be beating any Ferraris anytime soon driving one of these, you’ll be laughing all the way to the bank because this thing gets an estimated 261 miles per gallon. Yep, that’s no typo.

The XL1 will soon go into limited production for select markets, but there are no plans to offer it in the US. VW hasn’t yet announced any pricing.
