Nokia Lumia 822 and HTC 8X show up in Verizon colors, get pegged for November 8th release

Nokia Lumia 822 and HTC 8X show up in Verizon colors, get pegged for November 8th release

The Verizon-flavored Nokia Lumia 822 hasn’t exactly been camera-shy, nor has it been coy about its imminent arrival, but the details on price and availability have, as yet, not been pinned down. That is until now, according to a tip-off at WPCentral. The candid shot shows the Nokia next to an HTC 8X — both with Verizon livery. The word is that the Lumia 822 will run you $99 at launch, while the HTC 8X will command $199, both with a contract. The same source claims that these will launch on November 8th. Just in time to get that first killer app.

Update: Not satisfied with just white? Don’t worry about it — you’ll have two more shades to pick from, according to a press image uncovered by EvLeaks. A professionally captured view of the 822’s black and grey facades can be found at the more coverage link below.

Samsung Galaxy Note 2 from Verizon has carrier logo on its home button

I am not quite sure what you think of the above, but isn’t it rather strange to see a carrier’s branding appear on the home button of the Samsung Galaxy Note 2? After all, most smartphones and devices that are made available via a mobile carrier already has the carrier’s livery or at least, brand name plastered somewhere, and the home button will certainly take some getting used to for sure.

Right now, the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 from Verizon can be pre-ordered for $300 a pop, although that would mean it comes with a 2 year contract, and you can choose from black as well as white colors. This is definitely one design trend that we do not really want to see appear in smartphones and perhaps even tablets down the road, as having the brand plastered somewhere at the back and front of the handset is already enough advertisement for one’s eyes. As though you can forget who you’re subscribing to, no? As for others, they will recognize the device first before wondering which carrier you’re rocking to…

Verizon’s Samsung Galaxy Note 2 now available for pre-order

Planning on picking up the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 but don’t think that T-Mobile is the carrier for you? Well Verizon has rather quietly put up the pre-order page for their Galaxy Note 2. It is priced cheaper than T-Mobile’s offering at $299.99 along with a new two-year contract, although you might have to put up with Verizon branding the home button with their logo. Not a big deal but for those who might want to resell their handset or prefer a sleeker look, this could be something of an eyesore. For those who might have forgotten, the Galaxy Note 2 is the successor to the Galaxy Note of 2011 and will sport a quad-core Exynos processor under its hood along with 2GB of RAM. It will also feature a pretty big 5.5” Super AMOLED HD touchscreen display, S-Pen and Wacom support, an 8MP rear-facing camera and will come with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean preinstalled. Pop on over to Verizon’s website to place your pre-order, or you can check out our review of the device to see if it is for you.

Samsung Galaxy Note 2 available for preorder at Verizon and AT&T

Samsung‘s much-anticipated behemoth, the Galaxy Note 2, is now available for pre-order from Verizon and AT&T. The ship-by date is listed as November 27. The phone was launched earlier today at Samsung’s Galaxy Note II World Tour 2012 NYC press event, where we got our hands on the giant Verizon-branded smartphone.

You can nab the Galaxy Note 2 for $299 with a 2-year contract from Verizon or AT&T. If you don’t want a service contract, the price jumps to a pretty hefty $699.99 from Verizon, and $649.99 from AT&T. The device is available in white and black, and shipping is free. Verizon offers the largest 4G LTE network in the US.

The Galaxy Note 2 is one of a few phablets on the market, a venerable mixture of smartphone and tablet with the right dimensions to leave you forever wondering which device it better qualifies as. The 5.5-inch HD Super AMOLED display is its biggest feature, pun intended, but it also packs a wide variety of other high-end features, making its price tag suddenly seem a bit more reasonable. The smartphone includes the S Pen, which helps further solidify its feel as a miniature tablet.

Inside the Galaxy Note 2, you’ll find a quad-core 1.6GHz Exynos processor, up to 16GB of storage space (with expansion up to 64GB), and 2GB of RAM. On the back is a high-quality 8MP camera with an LED flash, and on the front a 1.9MP camera for video calls. The camera can record video in 1080p, and has a 4x zoom. The Note 2 is rated for up to 15 hours of talk time and 12.5 days of standby time.

Verizon, AT&T put Samsung’s Galaxy Note II on pre-sale for $300 with a two-year contract

Verizon, AT&T put Samsung's Galaxy Note II on presale for $299 with a twoyear contract

Samsung’s Galaxy Note II played coy at first by only hanging out with the European crowd, but now that it’s here, it’s the life of the US carrier party. The two biggest, AT&T and Verizon, have now glommed the phablet and each are offering it for pre-sale in all its quad-core Exynos, 5.5-inch glory for $300 under a two-year contract. We just handled Verizon’s variant, but weren’t sure of a sale date, and AT&T’s version, which we saw earlier was already expected for pre-order today. When Sprint’s copy of the handset arrives later today, that’ll round out the Note II’s major US carrier dance card — so you’ll be able to grab it at whichever plucks on your heart (or purse) strings.

Ugh, Verizon Plastered Its Logo on the Samsung Galaxy Note II Home Button

This is awful. Utterly, completely, corporate suit wearing, slicked back hair smelling, awful. Verizon stamped its logo on top of the new Samsung Galaxy Note II. Do you see it? Yes. That’s right, the Verizon logo is on the freaking phone’s home button. Covering it. Are you kidding me. More »

Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note II hands-on

It’s time for the most gigantic branding you’ve ever seen on a smartphone, right here live on the Galaxy Note II made by Samsung and plastered by Verizon. What will likely be one of the most sought-after models of the Galaxy Note II here is also being shown to have a Verizon logo on the front on the home button – as big as the home button – with Verizon’s 4G LTE branding on the back panel as well, rather massively. We got ahold of this Verizon Galaxy Note II unit at the Samsung Galaxy Note II World Tour NYC stop this week amid many party favors indeed.

This device is essentially the same as the Samsung Galaxy Note in each other iteration its been released, both nationally and internationally, save for a few details. The apps are slightly different in their abundance – instead of the T-Mobile apps you get on the T-Mobile unit (as we’ve reviewed in full here), you get the Verizon collection. Not all that different from what we’ve seen recently on units such as the Motorola DROID RAZR, including Color installed right out of the box.

We’re also minus the notification pulldown additions that T-Mobile made on their unit, and the settings menu has but one addition – a connection to your data plan from Verizon. In other words, you’re getting the same device no matter which carrier you’re on, save the data speed, the data cost, and the branding. Where the T-Mobile and AT&T versions of this device do not have anything but Samsung on the front, Verizon has flexed its muscle with a home key brand mark.

Have a peek at the few hands-on photos you’ll need to experience the Verizon 4G LTE Galaxy Note II for yourself and keep on pressing your face to the screen until the actual unit is available in stores. We’re also getting pumped up about the AT&T 4G LTE version which we’ll be testing out soon as well – data speeds mostly, of course. Don’t forget also to take a peek at our Galaxy Note II international review too – hot stuff!

Samsung Galaxy Note II gets Verizon branding on home button

The Samsung Galaxy Note II is coming to the US soon, and when it arrives it will be on a number of different carriers. If you’re picking one up at Verizon because of the carrier’s great network, we can’t really blame you, but be forewarned: buying the Note II at Verizon will net you a certain extra that you may not want. Specifically, we’re talking about Verizon branding on the Note II’s home button.

Last month we heard a rumor that Verizon was going to place its own branding on the home button of the Note II, but at the time, that was just a rumor. Verizon confirmed the whispers today by releasing a number of press shots that clearly show the Verizon logo plastered on the home button, so there’s no need to guess anymore. Look at it this way though – if you pick up the Note II from Verizon, at least you’ll never forget who your carrier is, right?

Yeah, we didn’t actually think that would convince you that branding on the home button is a winning idea. To be honest, we’re not really sure what Verizon is thinking, considering that the company’s logo is already there in force on the backside of the device. Having branding on the home button just looks bad, which such a shame considering that otherwise the Galaxy Note II is such a sleek looking device.

At least the Note II is still an excellent phone. So long as you can deal with that poor choice in logo placement, you’re in for a real treat, as the Note II features a beautiful screen and powerful internals. For more on the Galaxy Note II, be sure to check our full review of the device, and head down to the comments section to tell us what you think of Verizon’s branding decision!

Samsung Galaxy Note II for Verizon hands-on

Samsung Galaxy Note II for Verizon handson

So far we’ve had the opportunity to review the global edition of the Samsung Galaxy Note II — as well as get our hands on three of the five variants known to be making their way to the US — but tonight we got our first official look at Verizon’s particular flavor. Not that it’s much different than the rest of the crowd: it’s loaded with the same specs we’ve seen on the N7100 model (5.5-inch HD Super AMOLED display at 1,280 x 720, 3,100mAh battery and a quad-core Exynos processor clocked at 1.6GHz), with the exception of Verizon-specific LTE bands, and have the same button layout that we’ve come to expect. Of course, there’s that hideous Verizon logo on the main button, but that’s the only visual difference we could spot.

Software-wise, Verizon’s version of the Note II contains the built-in apps we’ve gotten accustomed to with its Android phones: VZ Navigator, My Verizon Mobile, and Mobile Hotspot. The device we picked up was running Jelly Bean, like its counterparts from other carriers. Sadly, no pricing or availability is yet available for the Note II on Verizon, with reps at the Samsung event we’re at saying that it’s up to Verizon to loose that news.
