It’s about time. The HTC DLX has most often been rumored carrying a Verizon-style 6435LVW or Droid Incredible X name, and yet it was unveiled first in Japan as the J Butterfly; we really needed the photos just now surfacing at Android Central to remind us that the 5-inch, 1080p gigantophone could still come to Big Red. While nothing’s confirmed yet, the black-with-red-trim design and all too prominent Verizon labeling make a convincing case for the DLX’s ultimate US destination. A helpfully provided phone profile screen might be more interesting to some, as it hints that we might get the same quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro, 2GB of RAM and 8-megapixel rear camera as in the J Butterfly — Verizon won’t pull a Droid Incredible 4G LTE and tone down the hardware, if this is true. Without any more details, we’re still left wondering just how soon Verizon could commit to launching the smartphone. There’s no guarantees that Verizon will follow KDDI’s schedule and ship in early December.

Update: We’ve been wondering whether the odd name was meant to be short for Droid Incredible X, i.e. “DIX” instead of “DLX,” but our friend @evleaks on Twitter just showed us a list of device PIDs that mentions the latter. @evleaks also suggests that DLX might be short for the codename “Deluxe” for the international variant, just as “ENRC2” was short for “Endeavor C2” (One X+).

Update 2: It turns out the J Butterfly has the codename “Deluxe J” in its bootloader menu, so there you have it. Thanks again, @evleaks!

Known as the LG Intuition in the USA, this smartphone has been introduced by LG as the LG Optimus Vu at Mobile World Congress. We had published a hands-on in early 2012. The goal for this device is to address the very large display smartphone market created by the Samsung Galaxy Note, which has sold more than 10M units since its launch.

The LG Optimus Vu adds a few things to this “phablet” category, including an ultra-wide display, a very fast user interface and some LG proprietary software. The main difference with the Galaxy Note is that the LG Intuition does not use a stylus, so keep that is a huge difference in my option.

It’s not always obvious from the photos, but this smart is huge, but the question is: how does it feel on a day-to-day basis, and I’ll try to answer that question for you. Let’s gear up for an LG Intuition deep dive… (more…)

When Motorola resurrected the RAZR brand last year we didn’t realize that we were looking at the new face of the company. At the time, Google had yet to officially take over the handset manufacturer, it had a deep stable of less-than-impressive devices and, while it was a moderate success, the Droid RAZR didn’t exactly turn the market on its head. Still, in retrospect, it only makes sense that the RAZR would once again become the standard bearer for Moto. Even if we weren’t blown away by last year’s model, it was a big step in the right direction for the company, a device that featured a great mix of premium styling and performance. The new RAZR HD and MAXX HD take that basic formula and attempt to address our concerns about the display and battery life, the latter of which was already handled in dramatic fashion by the RAZR MAXX. So, how do the latest caps-happy, vowel-averse handsets from Motorola stack up against last year’s incarnations and the current crop of competitors? Keep on reading after the break to find out.

If you’ve been with T-Mobile or AT&T in the past and miss your ability to add Google Play purchases to your carrier bill each month now that you’re on Verizon, you’ll be glad to know that they’ll be joining the party too quite soon. A confirmation of this update to the Google Play store as well as Verizon’s connection to it has come through today via Google Play’s official twitter account, complete with a date range for the roll out. If you’re on Verizon you’ll be able to add digital purchases to your normal carrier bill starting soon – within the next few weeks, in fact!

The notification lets us know that Google play will be adding Verizon to their roster of digital billing connections with apps, music, “and more” quite soon. We’re not sure at the moment if this means that books and movies / TV shows are off the table at the moment – more likely it’s just due to the 140 character limit on a Tweet with the other two categories simply implied.

According to a leak discovered by Droid Life, there may be a $25 USD a month limit to your carrier billing when the program launches. This amount may go up as Verizon decides whether or not customers are in danger of spending their whole life’s savings each week – as is the situation when you’ve got downloads that very much appear to be free, but certainly are not. This update will have all four of the top carriers in the USA added to the carrier billing roster.

Google is intending on keeping up with the rest of the digital universe with sales of books, magazines, TV shows, movies, music, apps, and games for some time into the future. Good news Motorola Droid Bionic owners – if you were unwilling, or did not know how to flash an Android 4.0 ICS based ROM onto your handset, you might be interested to learn that according to Verizon, the Android 4.0 ICS update is expected to begin rolling out to Droid Bionic handsets starting from today. Considering that a soak test was conducted last week, we guess Motorola/Verizon decided that it was time to release the update to the masses. We expect that it will begin rolling out in stages so not everyone will be getting the update at the same time, so fret not if you have yet to receive the notification. If you haven’t been notified about the update and you’re waiting, you can head on over to Verizon’s Motorola Droid Bionic support page to learn how to update your handset, as well as what to expect in the upcoming update.
