Sprint LTE Coming To 21 New Markets On April 12

Only yesterday AT&T announced that it was expanding its LTE network to six new markets. Verizon has its network out in most markets, nearly 500 to be precise. Sprint is the third largest carrier in U.S. and it too is slowly but surely expanding its LTE net. It is being reported that Sprint will be adding 21 new LTE markets on the 12th of April.

If you’re based in these markets and have a Sprint LTE compatible device, you’ll have access to download speeds of up to 6-8Mbps, peaking at 25Mbps, and download speeds of up to 2-3Mbps. The entire list of these new markets can be viewed in the image posted above. It is nice to see that all major carriers in the U.S. are seriously expanding their LTE networks. T-Mobile only recently got off the line, with it’s network being available in seven markets as of now. AT&T currently covers 182 markets, it is expected to add 77 more by the end of this summer. Right now, Verizon’s network is ahead of everyone else, with the carrier expected to be done with LTE deployment in a couple of months.

Verizon CEO Claims He Convinced Steve Jobs To Include LTE In The iPhone

Verizon CEO Claims He Convinced Steve Jobs To Include LTE In The iPhonePrior to the release of the iPhone 4S, many had speculated that the phone would come with 4G LTE capabilities. However this was shot down because Apple had at that time not yet figured a way to include LTE whilst providing decent battery life. Come iPhone 5, it seems that iPhone users would finally be able to enjoy LTE speeds on their phone, but who do we have to thank for this feature? While many assume that this is the natural progression for Apple, Verizon’s CEO seems to think that he deserves the credit for your iPhone 5 having LTE capabilities.

Speaking at a conference for the National Association of Broadcasters, Verizon’s CEO Lowell McAdam mentioned that it was him who convinced Apple’s late co-founder, Steve Jobs, to include LTE in the iPhone. “I was really trying to sell him and he sat there without any reaction. Finally, he said, ‘Enough. You had me at 10 Mbps. I know you can stream video at 10 Mbps,’” Based on what we know about Steve Jobs’ personality and his quotes, it certainly does sound like something he would say, but what do you guys think? Do we really have Verizon’s CEO to thank for the iPhone including LTE, or do you think that this would have happened eventually, regardless of carrier intervention?

Amazon Discounts Blackberry Z10 To $99 For AT&T And Verizon

Amazon Discounts Blackberry Z10 To $99 For AT&T And VerizonAre you planning on getting a new phone but can’t decide what to get? If you’re thinking of maybe going with Blackberry’s Z10 smartphone, you could be in luck because it seems that Amazon has decided to drop the price of the Z10 to $99. Of course this price means that you will need to sign on to a two-year contract with either AT&T or Verizon. For those who have ordered the device via Amazon and paid the more expensive price, it seems that Amazon is willing to give back $50 in credit as long as you call their customer service and let them know, although this seems to be only applicable to new customers. For those who’d rather not be stuck in a contract with either carrier, the Z10 is selling at retail for either carrier at $529.99 for AT&T, and $599.99 on Verizon. We have to say $99 isn’t too bad of a price, and could be a somewhat affordable way for you to try out the device without having to spend too much money that you would on a higher-end smartphone like the iPhone 5 or the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S4.

Verizon CEO Says He Convinced Steve Jobs to Put LTE in the iPhone 5

Speaking at the National Association of Broadcasters, Verizon CEO Lowell McAdams talked about how data is used on Verizon’s pipes… and a story about how he convinced Steve Jobs to put LTE on the iPhone 5. More »

Verizon’s CEO says video accounts for half of its traffic

Verizon‘s CEO attended the National Association of Broadcasters conference, stating yesterday that half of Verizon Wireless’s traffic is from videos, a number that is expected to continually increase over the next several years, eventually accounting for about 2/3rds of it. He then went on to discuss a conversation he had with the late Steve Jobs over the iPhone and LTE.

CEO Lowell McAdam attended the NAB conference yesterday, taking part in a scheduled discussion with Gordon Smith, the National Association of Broadcasters’ President and CEO. According to Fierce Wireless, not many individuals attended the one-on-one talk event, but those who did were graced with McAdam’s discussion of its LTE network, and in particular, that videos account for a large amount of its traffic.

He also addressed concerns that broadcasters have expressed about the company’s LTE broadcasting technology, following comments he made earlier this year on using that tech to provide its subscribers with certain live broadcasts. The 2014 Super Bowl was used as one example of the type of events Verizon’s CEO would like to see broadcasted, but underscored the reality that the wireless company isn’t interested in replacing standard broadcasting.

Another interesting thing McAdam had to say was in regards to a conversation he had with the late Steve Jobs, with whom he discussed LTE and the iPhone. McAdam went to task to convince Jobs to add LTE support to the iPhone 5, with the CEO saying during the conference: “I was really trying to sell him and he sat there without any reaction. Finally, he said, ‘Enough. You had me at 10 Mbps. I know you can stream video at 10 Mbps.’ And Apple’s next phone was LTE.”

AT&T Rolls Out LTE To Six New Markets

AT&T Rolls Out LTE To Six New Markets

AT&T has announced today that it has added six additional markets to its LTE network. This latest addition brings the total number of markets, in which AT&T’s LTE service is available, up to 182. The carrier also added that it has plans to add another 77 markets by the end of summer 2013. Apart from that, seven existing markets that already have access to LTE now get expanded coverage. The new markets include Jackson, Tenn., Kalamazoo, Mo., Napa, Calif., Orangeburg, S.C., Rocky Mount-Wilson, N.C., and Santa Rosa-Petaluma, Calif.

Verizon Wireless is the clear leader in the LTE market, its network is available to almost 500 markets. AT&T is not even offering its service in even half of that number, so one can understand their frantic efforts to upgrade and expand. Verizon is expected to be done with LTE deployment in a couple of months. As far as speeds are concerned, AT&T is adamant that it offers the highest 4G LTE speeds in the country. Other carries such as T-Mobile and Sprint have been slow of the line. T-Mobile only recently announced its LTE network which is only available in seven markets as of now.

Verizon Slashes Samsung Galaxy S3 Price Before Galaxy S4 Announcement

Verizon Slashes Samsung Galaxy S3 Price Before Galaxy S4 Announcement

We already saw the price of the Samsung Galaxy S3 drop on AT&T earlier this month in preparation of the Galaxy S4′s launch, but today, we’re seeing another wireless carrier in the U.S. announce it has started to drop the price of the smartphone as well.

Verizon Wireless has now also dropped the price of the Samsung Galaxy S3 to $99 with a two-year contract, which we suspect is due to the Galaxy S4′s upcoming arrival, although the carrier has yet to acknowledge the device will be available on their network. At this point, the only U.S. carriers that have confirmed they will be carrying the Galaxy S4 has been AT&T and T-Mobile, although neither company has announced when they’ll be available. (more…)

How would you change the Droid Incredible 4G LTE?

https://i0.wp.com/www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/07/inc-review-lede-1341531069.jpg

Last summer, Verizon users who wanted an LTE-capable flagship had a stark choice: Samsung’s Galaxy S III, or the Droid Incredible 4G LTE. When we reviewed the latter handset, we found it comfortable in the hand, with a pretty display, but lamented the fact that the carrier insisted upon its own variant, rather than sticking with the beloved One X. But did those Big Red-enforced tweaks ruin this handset for you? Here’s the moment to share your experiences of this device, tell us what you loved, loathed and, if someone was listening, would you change?

Update: Perhaps we had Motorola on the brain, but of course the Droid Incredible 4G LTE is made by HTC. Thanks to everyone who pointed it out!

Purported Verizon Nokia Lumia 928 Image Leaked

Purported Verizon Nokia Lumia 928 Image Leaked

It has been rumored for quite some time now that Nokia has another Lumia device under its belt, called the Lumia 928. A purported image of Nokia Lumia 928 for Verizon has been leaked on Twitter by @evleaks, who just last week leaked the image of HTC First as well. It was previously reported that Nokia would be using an aluminium frame for the 928, now it is believed that the device is made using a thinner polycarbonate which allows it to be a bit thinner than the Lumia 920. Verizon is expected to announce the Lumia 928 by the end of this month.

The rumored specs of Verizon Nokia Lumia 928 point towards a 4.5 inch OLED display, a 1.5Ghz dualcore processor with 1GB or RAM and 32GB of internal storage. It is said to be marginally thinner than the 920, 10.2 millimeters to be precise as opposed to the 920′s 10.7 millimeters  The device will reportedly support simultaneous voice and data over 4G LTE. Twitter user @evleaks has mostly been right about his leaks, which makes it difficult to doubt the legitimacy of this particular Nokia Lumia 928 image leak.

Switched On: Unconventional, but not uncompromising

DNP Switched On Unconventional, but not uncompromising

For T-Mobile, March went out like a lion, a roaring one. With passion for both invention and invective, T-Mobile roared against the contract during its UnCarrier announcement. The nation’s fourth-largest (post-carrier) wireless operator will support its move away from contracts with a television spot that shows it as one of four bad guys riding into town to get people to do things their way, but then trades in its “black hat” for a magenta one as it no longer seeks to enforce those policies. T-Mobile says to watch carefully as each of the other bad guys has a distinct personality that reflects one of its main competitors.

T-Mobile is in a battle for getting consumers onto a network that is described as 4G, but evaluating the appeal of its announcement comes down to looking at four S’s – subsidy, selection, speed and simplicity.
