Verizon Samsung Odyssey Specs Leaked

odyssey specs Verizon Samsung Odyssey Specs Leaked The Samsung Odyssey is certainly a smartphone that is a long time in coming, first having some of its specifications leaked in August last year, and the smartphone has yet to see the light of day even until now. Well, the Samsung Odyssey has certainly been placed in a position to be a high end device when its specs were first leaked, but with each passing day, there will be newer smartphones that could demote its status by default.

Well, there is a new specs sheet from Verizon that has leaked, and it more or less confirmed the previous leaked features and hardware, although more light has also been shed on the situation, such as the device carrying 1GB RAM in addition to expandable storage and a removable battery, although the lack of wireless charging has somewhat marred this bit of good news. We do hope that we will be able to catch a closer glimpse of the Samsung Odyssey on the CES showfloor from next week onwards.

BlackBerry Z10 leaks for Verizon and AT&T

A photo has been leaked today of the next-generation RIM-made BlackBerry 10 device by the name of BlackBerry Z10, a machine that’s set to run an all-touch version of the mobile software coming out later this month. These handsets are said by the source to be in testing mode and that one is being carried by Verizon (scope the branding in the upper left) and the other is being carried by AT&T.

img-20130103-00139

The source is a device tester (not from the press, we must assume) who has provided the image to Business Inside who also quote him listing a selection of features from the phone. This machine looks to be appearing on either carrier with essentially the same size and shape, this ringing true with our prediction that we’re going to see a lot more Hero Device strategy in 2013 – read our Android Predictions for 2013 as well for some spooky similarities.

“• The build quality is really nice. The back cover feels rubbery and snaps on sort of like the back cover on Samsung’s Galaxy S III.
• The screen looks great.
• The web browser is very quick, just as fast as a desktop browser. It also supports Flash.
• You can set up separate profiles for work and personal use. This is good for people who want to use one phone for business and play.
• It integrates with Evernote.
• The new AppWorld store looks a lot like the Google Play store for Android apps.
• It only takes one minute to boot up.” – Anon

The source above appears to confirm several points that we’d heard from other sources in the past, including Evernote integration and that the build quality of the phone itself is rather high. We’re of course looking forward to there being a removable battery (as all good action-based phones should have) as well as a build quality that’s just as great as past BlackBerry devices – or better.

These machines will be revealed later this month at the BlackBerry event on the 30th, we’ll be there right in the front row for those of you getting pumped up for the big BlackBerry 10 launch and RIM’s next era! Let us know what you expect to see!

Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 swoops by FCC with Verizon-friendly LTE

Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 swoops by FCC with Verizon-friendly LTE

An LTE-equipped Galaxy Note 10.1 slipped through the FCC’s doors last month, but it was missing 4G bands that would allow it to work with American carriers. Now, however, the FCC has rubber-stamped a model with Verizon-friendly LTE, which includes support for the firm’s traditional Band 13, along with its fresh Band 4 (AWS) spectrum. In addition, the slate packs 3G connectivity and the expected support for Bluetooth and WiFi. Big Red and Samsung haven’t made a peep regarding a release, but with one of the final regulatory hurdles cleared for US availability, we imagine that an official announcement isn’t far off.

Motorola DROID RAZR M HD leaked with details

A few details have been leaked by an anonymous tipster as to what the next-generation DROID RAZR M will be, building on the greatness of the already fabulous palm-sized beast. We had our first look at the original DROID RAZR M earlier this year in NYC, the reveal event also playing host to one of the first public showings of a newly minted Google-owned Motorola, complete with Google-minded software choices for Android – like on-screen buttons, for example. Here we’re seeing the logical next step for the DROID RAZR M with an “HD” name addition, but the specifications we’re seeing aren’t quite as solid as we’d hope – not logically, that is.

When you deal with leaks, tips, and rumors such as these, you’ve got to use logic above all else. We’ve got a bunch of text from a tipster that PhoneArena seems to trust well enough, but given the notion that this device would nearly out-do the now-hero-status-holding DROID RAZR HD, we’ve got to question its authenticity. The original DROID RAZR M is known for its lovely tiny 4.3-inch display, while the current DROID RAZR HD (and RAZR MAXX HD, for that matter) has a 4.7-inch display. The tip we’re seeing today cuts the gap between the two with a 4.5-inch display for a new M HD.

droid_razr_hd_backsnice-580x263

This machine has been tipped to work with Android 4.1, size up at 5.15 x 2.52 x 0.035 inches, and weigh in at 5.22 oz. The display is said to be a 4.5-inch 720 x 1280 pixel resolution TFT LCD, that being 326 PPI (highly impressive). This smartphone is being tipped here as coming with a massive 3300 mAh battery and will work with the same processor the original M had (and has) with the MSM8960, that being the Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Plus dual-core 1.5GHz SoC.

Inside you’ve got 1GB of RAM (Dual-channel, 500 MHz) / DDR2 / 8192 MB ROM and built-in storage at 16GB. You’ll be able to add a microSD or microSDHC card for memory expansion up to 32GB with this device’s microSD card slot, and the machine will of course be working with Verizon’s brand of 4G LTE data. This machine will likely be appearing at CES 2013 if it does indeed show its face in the real world at all – stick with us in the [CES 2013 tag portal] until then – not too much longer now!

Droid RAZR And RAZR Maxx Get Jelly Bean Update

motorola droid razr hd review razr maxx review 26 640x426 Droid RAZR And RAZR Maxx Get Jelly Bean UpdateIf you happen to be a contented user of the Motorola Droid RAZR and the Droid RAZR MAXX, here is some news for you that would up your contentment level to new heights. Of course, this only applies to those who are subscribers of Verizon, as there were reports trickling in that owners of either handset have already started to receive the Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean update from Verizon via Over The Air (OTA), making this a pleasant surprise this Christmas.

The update is said to be rather large in size, so you might want to do the needful and make sure that your smartphone is hooked up to a power outlet all the time, and falling back on your home’s Wi-Fi connection is a good idea as well, since you can never quite tell just how stable (or unstable) the cellular data connection is. Some of the improvements that accompany Android 4.1.2 would include Google Now and Project Butter, where the latter is more than welcome to make the user experience a whole lot more pleasant, especially when you take into consideration your ageing hardware.

Verizon FIOS Hacked (Rumor)

On Saturday evening, there was a story making its rounds that a hacker claimed to have nicked information from approximately 3 million Verizon Wireless customers which was in plain-text, and this hacker allegedly posted the information for 300,000 customers online from Saturday onwards. Calling himself “TibitXimer”, the hacker mentioned over Twitter (prior to the account being removed) some clarifications, stating that the names and information were taken from a list of Verizon FIOS customers, where content of such information include sensitive data such as serial numbers, names, addresses, starting date with Verizon, password to one’s account, and phone numbers among others.

What about the folks over at Verizon? How are they taking it? The carrier has stepped forward with a statement of their own, where Verizon spokesman Alberto Canal claimed that “The ZDNet story is inaccurate. The ZDNet story is inaccurate. We reported this incident to the authorities when we first learned of it months ago and an investigation was launched. No Verizon systems were breached, no root access was gained, and this incident impacted a fraction of the number of individuals being reported.”

I guess everyone else can sleep easy this Christmas, but I won’t be surprised of TibitXimer comes up and throws a spanner in the works along the way.

Verizon's limited edition Droid DNA puts company colors in employees' hands

There are more perks to being a Verizon employee than just discounted phone plans — like limited edition versions of the carrier’s hottest handsets. Much like it did for the Droid RAZR and RAZR Maxx, Verizon’s gearing up to offer its staffers a special, red-backed version of the Droid DNA that adheres strictly to the company’s signature colors. Apart from the obvious red and black cosmetic change, each phone is set to ship with a serial number denoting its exclusivity and type on the back marking it as a “Verizon Employee Limited Edition.” According to DroidLife, these one-offs have already begun to enter into circulation. So, don’t be surprised if you see any related listings surfacing on eBay in the near future.

Verizon “employee edition” HTC Windows Phone 8X spotted in grey/lime finish

Working for Verizon sure has its perks, and one of them it would seem is the ability to get their hands on limited edition devices designed for Verizon employees. What this means is that for us regular folks, it is possible that enterprising Verizon employees might buy those phones and then put them up on eBay or Craigslist to sell for higher, targeting customers who don’t mind paying extra to own a relatively unique device. The good news is that if you were hoping for a limited edition Windows Phone, it seems that Verizon has an “employee edition” of the HTC Windows Phone 8X, and as you can see above comes in a grey finish with lime highlights, which we have to admit is pretty cool. If anything it’s certainly a departure from the bright and funky colors that Windows Phone 8 devices seem to sport these days. As usual these devices are individually numbered to showcase their limited availability, and perhaps to keep tabs on who bought what. We’re not sure if all employees are able to get their hands on HTC 8X, but if this is a phone you don’t mind owning, be sure to keep an eye out for eBay or Craigslist listings!
