BlackBerry 10 slides leak video chat and screen sharing via BBM

With the final release of BlackBerry 10 coming up in a special event scheduled for the 30th of January, it’s no wonder we’re seeing a blast of interest in everything RIM – today’s leak being a set of slides showing BBM boosts and a new task manager. This set of slides shows that BlackBerry Messenger is set to be updated in a big way with both full-on video chat and screen sharing for all. Also on the docket is a fully upgraded task manager for those of you hoping to keep your tasks in order – notes and all.

This update shows the new task manager as an element entitled “BlackBerry Remember.” Here you’ll be able to sync with Outlook for email and work directly with Evernote right out of the box. This information has been shown in the slides here and now as well as in the original gold SDK provided by RIM quite recently.

With BBM you’ll soon be able to share much more intuitively, too. You’ll be able to capture a photo, tap one of your vast collection of apps to share outright – Picasa, Facebook, Flickr, and more veing shown right here in slide form, add comments, and share. You can share to one person or to your newly forge BBM Group if you wish. You’ll be able to “seamlessly” transfer between video chat and screen sharing as well – great for directions for businesses.

With BlackBerry Remember you’re going to be able to capture and keep clean all of your notes from all different directions. You can “turn ideas into action”, so say the leaked slides here, and sync with a variety of services. Microsoft Outlook is, of course, first on the list of connections, and Evernote has been tipped more than once as well.

ooVoo updates its iOS and Android apps to support four-way video calls

DNP ooVoo updates iOS and Android apps to support fourway video calls

First ooVoo opened up four-way video chats on Facebook, and now the video calling service is doing the same for its Android and iOS apps. The company just updates both applications so that you can view up to four video streams at once, though you can carry on text chats with as many as 12 people. That’s true of both platforms, though the Android version is admittedly getting a few more changes. The newest version of the app brings deeper integration with Google services, plugging into the native Android address book to show missed calls, as well as a list of which friends are available to chat. To that end, Android users get not just the app, but also a widget that displays these tidbits at a glance. Rounding out the list of improvements, the updates introduce push notifications as well as the ability to text chat in the middle of a video call.

Airtime testing new video post features, improved buddy list

Airtime testing new video post features, improved buddy list

Remember Airtime, the Facebook-integrated video calling / media sharing service with a Chatroulette flavor? Well if not, we don’t blame you — usage stats suggest it hasn’t quite taken off, but maybe the new features it’s testing will secure a few more fans. No longer is the service restricted to the here and now, as the major change is all about video posts. Use Airtime to record a message and you can post it to Facebook, Twitter, YouTube or via a traditional email to get the conversation started. Friends can then reply to your message through Airtime with a video post of their own, and so on. Its buddy list has also been given a little love, so now it shows friends as online, idle or offline, and details your interaction timeline. Whether the features are enough to inspire wider uptake is questionable, but for the few that actively use Airtime, the updates are out in the wild now on a “limited public release.”

Logitech TV Cam HD puts Skype on your HDTV

Logitech has launched a new webcam, but the TV Cam HD is intended to sit on top of your big-screen television rather than your computer display. Supporting Skype calls over WiFi or ethernet connection, the TV Cam HD promises up to 720p HD widescreen video and crystal-clear pictures thanks to Carl Zeiss optics, along with a four noise-canceling microphone array and digital pan/tilt/zoom control.

Connectivity, beyond the WiFi b/g/n and ethernet, includes HDMI to make hooking up to the screen more straightforward. The camera also has an integrated speaker, though that’s only used as a ringer if the TV is turned off and a call is coming in.

You also get access to Skype apps, and there’s voicemail if you’re not around to answer the call. Logitech throws in a remote control, too, with straightforward directional keys, zoom buttons, back and home.

It’s not a new idea – Samsung showed off its Android-based inTouch standalone Skype webcam earlier in the year – but it could come in handy for those wanting video calls without a laptop involved. The Logitech TV Cam HD is up for pre-order today, priced at $199.99.
