Activision releases 007 Legends video game

Activision has announced that its new video game 007 Legends is available to purchase. This is the latest video game in Activision’s James Bond franchise, and the game sounds very cool. As the name implies, the game is based on five different classic Bond movies.

The Bond films that the video game is based on include Goldfinger, On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, Moonraker, License to Kill, Die Another Day, and the upcoming film Skyfall. The box image for the video game shows my favorite Bond villain of all time, Jaws. I hope Jaws is a playable character and figures heavily into the game.

The video game will launch across Europe on October 19 and on in Australia on October 31. From the description, it sounds as if the missions go along with each of the classic films. A sixth mission is unlockable that is based on the new Skyfall movie due out next month.

The Skyfall mission is offered as download content and its availability is timed to coincide with the movie. PlayStation Network subscribers will be able to access the Skyfall mission on November 9, and the mission will hit Xbox Live on November 20. Each of the six missions the game offers multiple levels and allows players to use spy gadgets, different weapons, vehicles, and more. The game will be offered for the Xbox 360, PS3, Wii U, and Windows computers. The Windows version will be available on Steam on November 2.

Mass Effect 3 to get new Omega DLC next month

If you’re gamer who likes RPGs or shooters, you probably checked out the games in the Mass Effect franchise in the past. These are some the best video games out there for combining shooters with role-playing, all rolled up with a compelling and interesting storyline. One of the best things about the Mass Effect games is that the developers release lots of DLC content to expand the game and keep players interested.

The latest game in the franchise, Mass Effect 3, has already received one DLC update this year, and another is coming. A video was making the rounds late last week that was shot at the New York Comic-Con. The video has reportedly now been taken off-line, but the person in the interview was from BioWare and gave out a few details on the DLC content.

The new download pack is said to be the largest the developers have ever made for the game at nearly twice the size of the previous download content. The DLC content is called Omega and will have players playing as the blue-skinned alien Aria along with a new character. Aria and her cohort will be trying to regain control of the Omega space station.

The original video tipped the release date as being November 27 for the Xbox 360. The content was said to cost 1200 MS Points, or about $14.99. MCV is reporting that the content will be coming on that same date for PC and PS3 owners. I watched the video interview in question late last week and noted no indication of a launch date for PC or PS3 users.

The compilation puts four full versions of popular Rockstar video games in one box and will be available in North America on November 6. The game collection will be offered for PS3 and Xbox 360 systems at a retail price of $59.99(USD).

The titles included in the game pack are Red Dead Redemption, GTA: Episodes from Liberty City, L.A. Noire, and Midnight Club: Los Angeles Complete Edition. That last game is a driving game, and includes every downloadable real-world vehicle and city section released since the game debuted. This pack should make a great gift for gamers this holiday season, and is a great deal, considering that each of the games originally sold for $59.99.

Xcom: Enemy Unknown Now Available

We have talked several times over the last month or so about the 2K Games and Firaxis Games title Xcom: Enemy Unknown. The last time we talked about the game was a few days ago when it went up for pre-order on Steam. If you’re like me and your Internet connection is too slow to download a full video game in a reasonable amount of time, you be glad to hear that you can walk into retail stores and purchase the game.

Xcom is available for Windows gamers, the Xbox 360, and the PS3. If you didn’t pre-order the game, you’ll miss out on some of the pre-order bonuses. One of those pre-order bonuses was the Classic Soldier Pack that gave some customization options to gamers. The pre-order bonuses also included some classic X-Com soldier skins inspired by the original game, soldier Deco packs to customize the soldier with custom armor and more, and the ability for complete color customization of armor.

There is a special edition of the game available for Windows gamers for $59.99 at participating retail locations. The special edition of the game has a Windows PC version, and a number of unique items, including an art book, a foldout poster, and insignia patch, soundtrack, and desktop wallpapers.

If you don’t live in North America and want to know when you can get your hands on this game, it set to launch internationally on October 12 for the PC, Xbox, and PS3. Gamers who want to check the game out before purchasing can download the playable demo for computers, the Xbox 360, and PS3. The PS3 demo is available internationally today.

Feel the Force: Angry Birds Star Wars coming November 8th to iOS, Android, WP, Kindle Fire and computers

Feel the Force: Angry Birds Star Wars coming November 8th to iOS, Android, WP, Kindle Fire and computers

Rovio teased a certain film-inspired Angry Birds picture a long, long last week, and as expected, it’s another new game — Angry Birds Star Wars. Our furious feathered friends are assuming the likenesses of characters from the epic saga, with the trusty Red Bird taking on Luke Skywalker’s role. It wouldn’t be the Rebel Alliance without a dark side to fight, which is where the Pigs fit into the storyline; even the music and levels for gravity-based play will hark back to the film franchise. In addition to the software, details of related merchandise have also been uncovered, including table games, toys and costumes. The game is out on November 8th for iOS, Android, Windows Phone, Kindle Fire and computers, and if it follows the original storyline, we wonder how Red Bird’s going to feel about his porcine family history.

Rovio hints at Angry Birds tiein with Star Wars on October 8th, Red Bird Five standing by

The green pigs have had their moment in the sun: it’s time for the Angry Birds to come back. Rovio Mobile has posted a teaser of a collaboration between its frustrated avians and Star Wars that will get a grand reveal on October 8th at Toys R Us’ Times Square location in New York City. No clear giveaways exist as to what’s coming, although Rovio is promising animations, comics and other material in the weeks ahead — we imagine it means more than a toy line, as unique as that can be. But does it mean an Angry Birds Space add-on that goes well beyond the Martian landscape, an entirely new game or something else altogether? We’ve asked the company for more details and will let you know if we’re given more information. In the meantime, get ready for what’s likely to be a geek culture explosion.

[Thanks, Jaakko]

Pokemon Black Version 2 and Pokemon White Version 2 Launch Oct 7

For a long time, some of the most popular games on the Nintendo DS portable console have been Pokémon titles. Nintendo is launching two new Pokémon game titles for the Nintendo DSi on October 7. That means this coming Sunday, Pokémon Black Version 2 and Pokémon White Version 2 will be available in retail outlets.

I’d wager that these games will sell in huge numbers over the weekend. The new games bring players back to Unova two years after the events that took place in the 2011 Pokémon Black and White versions. Players will meet old friends and make new friends as they move around the game world facing down rival Gym Leaders.

The game will allow players to make their own Pokémon movies and connect with other players in new ways to enjoy the storyline of the video game. Players take the role of a Pokémon Trainer exploring new areas of the Unova region. Nintendo points out that these new games are the first time the history of the core Pokémon video game series that storylines have continued from one game release to another.

Nintendo promises that there are new Gym Leaders to play, and a new Unova Challenge area where players are able to level up the Pokémon characters easier than before. The game also features an upgraded Pokedex, making it easier to find data on Pokémon and track them including new Legendary Pokémon. The new game also introduces a new medal system for earning rewards.

EA Sports FIFA Soccer 13 sells 4.5 million copies in five days

EA Sports has a big hit on its hands with its new FIFA Soccer 13 video game. EA Sports reports that the video game sold over 4.5 million copies in five days. According to EA 4.5 million units sold makes the video game the biggest launch of 2012.

EA also says that the new FIFA 13 is the biggest sports video game launch of all time. So far, the game has been the top-selling title in at least 40 different countries around the world. The game launched on September 25 and sold 1.23 million copies in the first 48 hours in the UK alone.

EA Sports notes that FIFA Soccer 13 is only the second video game franchise in history to sell more than 1 million units inside the UK within the first day of availability. Fans are playing the video game in huge numbers with September 30 marking the busiest day for online gaming for single title in EA’s history. EA says more than 800,000 fans played the game simultaneously on 30 September.

Bad Piggies Hits #1 in App Store in Just 3 Hours

Rovio is well-known as the developer and publisher of the insanely popular video game Angry Birds. This week, the company launched a new game called Bad Piggies that is told from the pigs point of view.

bad piggies

The game launched for the iPhone and Android platforms. The game proved so popular on iOS, that it only took three hours for Bad Piggies to take the top spot in the United States App Store. The game is really amusing and has players attempting to build contraptions to help the pigs escape the wrath of the Angry Birds.

If you want to try this game out for yourself, there are versions of the app available for download on the App Store for iPhone and iPad, and Mac as well as on Google Play for Android. It’s a very fun game, I gave it a try yesterday and it’s surprisingly challenging.

Mass Effect Trilogy Coming to PC, Xbox 360 and PS3

If you have a gamer on your holiday shopping list and they like shooters with a little RPG mixed in on the side, EA and BioWare have the perfect gift. On November 6, BioWare is launching the Mass Effect Trilogy compilation. The compilation will have all three Mass Effect games in one package.

mass effect 3 cover

The bundle pack will cost just $59.99(USD) and will provide many hours of epic gaming action. Mass Effect is one of the best video game franchises out there in my opinion. The franchise will take you from our first introduction to Commander Shepherd all the way to the point where he (SPOILER ALERT) sacrifices himself to save humanity.

The trilogy pack will be available for the Xbox 360 and PC on November 6. In a kick to the groin for PS3 gamers, there is no launch date offer for the PlayStation version of the Mass Effect Trilogy. I hope that the PS3 version will come in time for holiday gift-giving, but since the original Mass Effect was never released on the PS3, it’s likely to result in some delays for that console.
