What the world must look like to a flying bird (hint: awesome)

Claytonias F. traveled around America the past few months and documented it all with a quadcopter drone, a Phantom and a GoPro. The aerial views of our wonderful country are incredible to us foot worn humans but probably just a normal Wednesday for flying birds. This is probably the closest we’ll come to flying. And it’s close enough, I guess.

Going Meshugenah For Thanksgivukkah With Turkey Leg & Brisket

A New Zealand break-out singer from New Zealand is out front again this
holiday season. Back in August when she released her successfully
popular top forty pop hit, "Royals," she confused the public with a
somewhat contradictory world debut. While on the one hand, she hid
behind the pseudonym ‘Lorde‘ to protect her anonymity, on the other. . .

Professor X Fires Jubilee

Let’s be honest, some of the superheroes created in the Marvel universe aren’t all that super. Sure, we have some really cool superheroes such as Wolverine, but we also have some really lame superheroes like Jubilee. If you’re unfamiliar with Jubilee, you aren’t missing much. She shoots fireworks out of her fingers.

Comedian Pete Holmes has created a series of skits called “Ex-Men” in which Professor X fires some of the less thrilling X-Men. His latest video is hilarious with the Prof asking Jubilee at one point if she could fire herself because it would be the first thing she’s ever done for the X-Men. He also says at one point that he might give her a call someday if Magneto is ever beating up hippies at Burning Man.

Mom & Pops'Shop Small' For Social Media, Devoid Of Black Friday Madness & Cyber Monday FatigueMom & Pop shops, sometimes derogatorily referred to as the dinosaurs of the retail

Can Kmart’s “Blue” Light Special Ads Turn Us On For The Holidays? [Videos]

Can Kmart's "Blue" Light Special Ads Turn Us On For The Holidays? [Videos]With Kmart’s revenue reports heading into the toilet, it appears its TV ads might have followed suit this holiday season. Down 4.6 percent in earnings this quarter, one of the nation’s largest discount retailers is taking a radical departure from it’s wholesome Mom’s Apple Pie image to one that replicates the blue material you might catch on late night, a la Chelsea Lately!

Turkey is Offended, Bans YouTube

This article was written on March 07, 2007 by CyberNet.

A Turkish Court recently ordered that YouTube be banned because of a video that insulted the founder of modern Turkey, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk. It was no joke to them, and now YouTube fans in Turkey are going to have to go without their favorite videos.

Google Blogoscoped posted a screenshot of what people in Turkey see if they attempt to pay a visit. Bloggers in Turkey say they will fight this, and Boing Boing has posted a “defeat censorware” guide to help people get around it.

Turk Telecom provides all public Internet access in Turkey which means that blocking YouTube didn’t take much effort. A representative of Turk Telecom says, “We are not in the position of saying that what YouTube did was an insult, that it was right or wrong. A court decision was proposed to us, and we are doing what the court decision says.”

According to Forbes, Turkey has been rejected from the European Union for “not doing enough to curb extreme nationalist sentiments and to protect freedom of expression.” This is clearly one example of that. For now, Turks will have to go without YouTube and seek out alternatives.

Ken Block Plays Vehicular Tetherball in Gymkhana Six

If you’re a fan of cars, racing, or stupid vehicular stunts you’ve probably seen Ken Block and his Gymkhana series of videos. Gymkhana Five saw Block tearing through the streets of San Francisco and the sixth installment in the YouTube video franchise is now available for our enjoyment. It’s cool, but I don’t think it’s nearly as cool as the last one was.

In Gymkhana Six, Block streaks through a course that is set up with red and white boundaries all around making it very tight and narrow. He flies around the course in his Ford Fiesta race car and slides around hitting tetherballs with the back of his car.

He also does doughnuts around some moving Need For Speed Lamborghinis and his trademark guys on Segway scooters. My favorite part is when he slips around corners at full speed and is able to get his car lined up to make it through narrow shipping containers with the doors open. Check out the video for yourself and see if you think it’s better than Gymkhana Five.

VLC for the iPhone (VLC4iPhone) Supports XviD, FLAC, MPEG4, AVI, and More!

This article was written on June 06, 2008 by CyberNet.

vlc4iphone.pngVLC is an incredibly popular cross-platform media player, and it’s well known for supporting a wide variety of media types. iPhone and iPod Touch users can rejoice because a public version of VLC4iPhone is right around the corner! Work has already begun on porting the popular VLC media player over to Apple’s iPhone and iPod Touch, and the progress looks great.

Note: VLC4iPhone is currently in semi-private Beta testing. You can join in the Beta if you donate to the cause.

The screenshot to the right is compliments of iPhoneFreakz, and as you can tell the player fits in well with the standard iPhone interface. The best part is that it already supports a wide range of media formats including MPEG/MPG, MPEG2, MPEG4, AVI, MP3, XviD, h264, FLAC, 3GP, and more! Think of all the headaches this can save since you won’t have to convert your videos in order to watch them on your phone.

It’s quite awesome that a developer has undertaken a project like this, and I wonder what kind of media players are going to emerge once the official App Store has launched. In the mean time you’ll need to have a jailbroken iPhone or iPod Touch if you want to dabble with VLC4iPhone, plus you’ll have to donate to the project as we mentioned earlier.

Higher Quality Video Player Coming to YouTube

This article was written on November 16, 2007 by CyberNet.

YouTube has nearly mastered the whole concept of video sharing in its current form, so the next step is to improve what they have to offer something even better. There’s always room for improvement no matter what you’re doing! The obvious improvement for YouTube would be to offer high-quality videos which according co-founder Steve Chen, we should see within three months. This announcement was made at the NewTeeVee conference that was held on Wednesday where Om Malik and Liz Gannes sat down to chat with him. I know what most of you are thinking… “hooray!” or “finally!” It’s about time, isn’t it? Some sites are reporting that YouTube will be offering HD content, but according to Liz Gannes there was no mention of HD whatsoever.

Most people upload videos where the quality is much better than what YouTube can support right now. YouTube down-grades the quality of videos and converts them to Flash, no matter what format they were uploaded in.  As broadband Internet makes its way into more homes, there’s no reason why they couldn’t up the quality so that viewers have a better experience. The only downside is that with a higher quality video, high buffer times could potentially drive people away if they had a slow connection. Not to worry — YouTube knows this which is why they say they’re working on a player that would detect a user’s Internet connection to determine if they could be served a higher-quality video.

So, get ready for a better viewing experience with a new player over at YouTube. 3 months to go and counting…
