Netflix Looking To Increase Its Subscription Fees

Netflix Looking To Increase Its Subscription FeesIf you’re a Netflix subscriber and you think that the current subscription fee that the company is asking for is a little on the steep side, or that you think it could be cheaper, you might be disappointed to learn that Netflix could be considering a price hike.

This is according to the company who recently revealed their plans are part of its quarterly financial results. The price hike won’t be too dramatic and will see it jump by one or two dollars, but then again the difference could be seen by some as too expensive.

After all some Netflix subscribers subscribe for the exclusive original content, such as House of Cards, and might think that the price hike is too expensive just to watch a few shows. Now there is some good news because if you’re already a Netflix subscriber, your prices will remain the same as it is now, for a limited period of time.

The company stated that current subscribers will not experience the price hike for a “generous time period”, although they did not state exactly how long this time period will be. According to Netflix, this price hike “will enable us to acquire more content and deliver an even better streaming service.” So what do you guys think? Are you planning on sticking around once the prices go up?

Yahoo And Vevo Partner Up For Original Music Programming

Yahoo And Vevo Partner Up For Original Music ProgrammingIt is safe to say that in terms of videos on the internet, YouTube is the king and is pretty much everyone’s go-to website when they want to search for videos. This is despite alternatives out there such as Daily Motion and Vimeo, both of whom offer similar video hosting services, but we guess given YouTube’s reputation and how long it has been established, it would be hard to knock them off their spot.

However that’s not spotting companies such as Yahoo from trying. According to reports, Yahoo has recently struck up a new deal with Vevo, which for those unfamiliar, is a joint effort between the Universal Music Group and Sony Music Entertainment, two of the largest record labels in the world at the moment.

Vevo has a ton of videos on YouTube but apparently they are trying to lose their dependency on YouTube where the terms and conditions of its use is pretty much subject to the whims of its parent company, Google. Now Yahoo and Vevo have worked together in the past on Yahoo Music, but apparently this move is expected to bring its videos and even original music programming to Yahoo Screen.

We have heard of Yahoo’s ambitions to acquire high-end original programming so it is possible that by working with Vevo, it’s one of the ways Yahoo will be able to bring additional original video content onto its website. Will Yahoo and Vevo’s partnership help to draw more users onto Yahoo Screen? We guess we will have to wait and see, but in the meantime what do you guys think?

Amazon New Original Pilots Want Your Votes

Companies that initially started off as online video content streaming providers are now making a big push into the development of original content. Netflix is a prime example, having invested hundreds of millions of dollars in this aim, producing award winning shows such as House of Cards. Chromecast SDK Available

Chromecast SDK AvailableGoogle has announced that the Google Cast Software SDK (Software Development Kit) is available for all developers who want to add Chromecast support in their apps and (web) services. The first apps available on Chromecast came from large companies that had the engineering resources to work on a pre-release API, and that were big enough for Google to justify spending the support effort. Among them were Netflix, Hulu,Pandora, and of course Google’s own YouTube and Google Play – just to name a few. (more…)

Jimmy Fallon Awkwardly Hides MacBook While Interviewing Bill Gates

    gates-jimmy-fallon

When you have the undivided attention of one of the richest man in the world, who also happens to be an outstanding philanthropist as well as the co-founder of a company called Microsoft, the last thing you want to do is commit a faux pas. Unfortunately, that’s exactly what late night talk show host Jimmy Fallon did. Gates was on the show to talk about his various philanthropic activities, notably the global campaign against polio, the show started off nicely with Fallon even branding Gates as “cool.” Things got a little awkward when Fallon noticed Gates eyeing his laptop, which if you have ever seen the show, has always been a MacBook, with an Apple mouse and keyboard on the side.

    Netflix Offline Viewing ‘Very Unlikely’

    Netflix Offline Viewing Very Unlikely

Netflix is one of the most popular online on-demand video streaming service, it has also branched into production of original content which has been critically acclaimed and has gone on to win multiple awards. The company is certainly serious about the business, and as it looks to the future that’s going to bring 4K ultra-high definition streaming, there doesn’t seem to be any place for offline support. Joris Evers, director of global communications at Netflix, says that its “very unlikely” that the service will consider offline viewing support.

One might argue that there are a number of services out there that currently offer support for watching content offline, services like BBC’s iPlayer and Sky Go, so why doesn’t Netflix jump on the bandwagon as well. Evers says that Netflix wants to be a simple and straightforward “click and watch service.” Enabling users to download content would complicate matters, there would be licensing issues to take care of and storage issues to consider. All of this would go towards hampering the simple streaming experience that Netflix wants to offer. Its evident that the company wants to concentrate on offering the best streaming service to users, service which would also include the ability to stream in 4K UHD in the very near future.
