HBO CEO Teases HBO Go-Only Subscription Service

HBO CEO Teases HBO Go Only Subscription Service

It’s undeniable one of the most popular premium cable channels to offer an online streaming video service is HBO with its HBO Go service. HBO Go allows you to not only watch recently aired shows, sometimes, being able to watch them online minutes after they’ve aired, but also catch up on complete seasons of older shows, movies and specials. Unfortunately, the only way to view HBO Go is if you’re an HBO subscriber, but that may soon change.

According to Reuters, chief executive at HBO Richard Plepler recently made some interesting comments regarding the evolution of the company’s HBO Go service at a recent premier for Game of Thrones’ third season. ”Right now we have the right model,” Plepler told Reuters. “Maybe HBO GO, with our broadband partners, could evolve.” This, of course, means the company has heard our cries for a streaming-only option for HBO Go as paying a full subscription to be able to use the service seems a little redundant. Dead Island: Riptide Gameplay Trailer Shows The Survivors In Trouble Again

Techland’s Dead Island was one of those underground hits that many people didn’t expect it to play as well as it did, and because of its success, the game will be getting a sequel called Dead Island: Riptide.

A new gameplay trailer called “They Thought Wrong” was released for Dead Island: Riptide that tells how it will link with the original game. In the trailer, we learn the original characters were rescued from Banoi at the end of the Dead Island, which we’re sure you already knew if you played through the game. Their “rescue” isn’t what they thought it would be as they’re immediately brought onto a military ship and placed under arrest.

While they’re being withheld, the survivors meet a soldier who is part of large humanitarian search and rescue operation. The trailer then describes how exactly the virus was released once again, which we’re sure is what you’ll be fighting against in Dead Island: Riptide. Unfortunately for the survivors, they land on a completely new island that is on the verge of being nuked.

And you thought you were having a rough day.

Now – that number isn’t just a couple of million people going to YouTube on a regular basis. The one billion monthly users are completely unique visits, meaning on a monthly basis, there are one billion people viewing a YouTube video.

YouTube runs down what that translates to, which we also found to be some amazing statistics: (more…)

Doom 2 Integrated Into Half-Life 2 Through gmDoom Mod Is Awesome

First-person shooters lately have been trying their absolute best to either make their games as visually appealing as possible by creating extremely realistic graphics or by making them stylized. But there’s something about old-school first-person shooter games that even though they look OK by today’s standards, you can certainly enjoy their unique experience. A new mod will soon be released that brings the feel of an old-school FPS to modern-day games.

The mod is called gmDoom and contains a partial source port of Doom that brings its HUD, sights, sounds and weapons into Half Life 2. The results of which is a mashup that any old-school first-person shooter could certainly appreciate. The author of the mod GhorsHammer says this mod will be available through Steam Workshop once all of its bugs have been squashed, which they say should only take a few days. (more…)

Penguins Play With iPad Game For Cats

We’re sure by now, you’ve seen a number of videos of a number of animals, babies and even the elderly playing with an iPad to your amazement. But we’re sure you have yet to see a video of penguins playing with an iPad, and if you have, make believe you haven’t for the sake of this story.

For you people who have yet to see penguins interacting with an iPad, a video from the Aquarium of the Pacific shows them playing a game called “iPad Game For Cats,” which we’re sure these penguins would die from embarrassment if they knew they were playing such a game.

The game is designed with felines in mind as it has a toy mouse running around the screen, which would entice any cat to come play with your iPad. As penguins would do, they don’t play with the toy mouse, instead, they try to eat it over and over again. We’re sure the penguins that played with the iPad have once again learned we humans will continually tease them with food for our own enjoyment, which is what will probably spark the great penguin uprise of 2035.

GoPro Cameras Deliver Bullet-Time Scenes From Everyday Activities

We’ve seen the GoPro used to create some amazing visuals such as the camera being used to record the process of traveling to space, as well as giving sports fans a first-hand view of their favorite sports with the RefCam But this latest recording method allows the average person to create cool-looking bullet-time effects in their videos.

Permagrin Films’ Marc Donahue created a mount that groups together a bunch of GoPro cameras to simultaneously take a shot to create bullet-time moments out of any visual, making it instantly cool. Because of the combination of the half-circle mount and the cameras capturing a moment simultaneously, the transition between one image to another looks seamless to us, although Donahue admits it requires a bit more tuning in order for the GoPro cameras to fire in closer succession. Pump-Action Oreo Separation Gun Makes Cookies Into A Deadly Weapon

For the past few weeks, we’ve seen some neat creations whose primary objective is to successfully separate an Oreo cookie. But today, we spotted an Oreo-related creation that wasn’t commissioned by Nabisco to create, which makes it even more awesome someone took time out of their day to create something like this.

Today’s creation comes from slingshot master Joerg Sprave and is, quite simply, a pump-action Oreo separation gun. Unfortunately, it doesn’t do as well of a job at separating Oreos as the previous creations since it pretty much just shoots the delicious treats at such a rate of speed, that they splatter, thus separating. Brain-Controlled Headphones Automatically Plays Music Based On Mood

Changing your music preference based on your current mood can challenge most people as you never know what kind of song would best fit your mood. Do you play Lady Gaga while giving birth? Would Black Sabbath be appropriate at a funeral? There are so many questions as to what song would be the best to play at certain times, and Nuerowear is introducing headphones that can help you make the right selection automatically.

Neurowear’s Mico is a pair of headphones that are completely controlled by your brainwaves. The Mico connects to your iPhone through Bluetooth to select songs that have been neuro-tagged using a specific music application. Altogether, the included app only has 100 tracks to choose from, although we’re sure each song has been chosen for specific moods, although if you feel a current song doesn’t fit your mood, you can shake your iPhone to change songs.

The Neurowear Mico doesn’t have a price or official release date, but hopefully the company can start cranking them out so I can listen to the blues when I’m feeling blue.
