Megabox, a new music service by Kim Dotcom

Kim Dotcom is rather well-known for having created MegaUpload, one of the most popular file-sharing websites that was recently taken down by the authorities. While the case between the U.S. authorities and Dotcom continues, the latter hasn’t been sitting idle. According to him, he has been working on a whole host of new services that will be launched soon.

Among them is Megabox, which is a music-sharing service. It hasn’t been launched yet and the philosophy behind Megabox is to let the artists sell their music directly to the consumers who can, in turn, download the music straight from the website. Dotcom released a video today, teasing at the features Megabox is going to pack. (more…)

Video: Bar-Worker Falls Down Ten Foot Hole

Unattended and bare manholes on roadsides can be very dangerous if there are no warning signs accompanying them. Most of us don’t tend to look at our feet or at the ground all the time to be aware of a gaping hole if there is one on our way.

Apparently, a bar worker shown in the video below makes the same careless mistake, only to meet an unfortunate accident. The man is apparently trying to switch channels on the TV on the other side of the bar and in doing so, hastily walks towards it. Little does he know that there’s a 10-foot hole gaping a few feet from him. Once he reaches the hole, he falls right through it.

YouTube adds highlights view option and improved homepage feed

Google has rolled out a few updates on YouTube, particularly in the homepage feed. Google hopes that these updates will provide an even better viewing experience to its users. The update brings a couple of improvements to YouTube’s video thumbnails. Now users can enjoy bigger and better quality thumbnails with more information related to the videos. “If an uploader has commented, posted, or added a video to a playlist, we surface this information so you can get a better picture of all the activity related to the video,” Google said.

The update also adds a menu that allows users to quickly control the content that they want to appear in their feed. To access the menu, users will have to hover over an item in the feed and click the arrow that appears in the upper right of the item. Also, the update now offers a distinct and marked view of the videos already watched in the feed, allowing users to better decide what to watch next. Lastly, there’s also a Highlights view option that allows a diverse set of creators to appear in a viewer’s feed based on their subscriptions. The said Highlights view is currently the default view of activity on the homepage feed.

Dunkin’ Donuts sprays coffee scents into buses to increase sales

In a move to increase sales in South Korea, donut and coffee retailer Dunkin’ Donuts is installing an ingenious technology into the buses in Seoul that will release coffee aroma into the air each time the Dunkin’ Donuts radio jingle is being played. The technology uses a spray that they call “Flavor Radio” and it looks similar to other conventional sprayers used in homes. And the strategy seemed to work. The company said that since the campaign launched several months ago, they saw a 16 percent increase in visitors at Dunkin’ Donuts shops near bus stops.

And the coffee aroma on the buses proved to be too hard to resist as coffee sales went up by 29 percent, the company said. However, Dunkin’ Donuts has no plans of deploying the same strategy on it shops around the world. “The campaign was designed to raise awareness of Dunkin’ Donuts coffee in a fun and engaging way. In Seoul and South Korea, there is a lot of passion for Dunkin’ Donuts, so this offered an opportunity to try something unique and different,” Public Relations Manager, Jessica Gioglio said.
