Looxcie 3 gets a new, square design so you can stream video from your kid’s chest

Action cams typically go hand-in-hand with the dudebros risking life and limb for adrenaline, and are named to match. Looxcie’s target demo’s a bit different. Beyond embracing the pun (and creative spelling) at its utmost, the company’s new Looxcie 3 aims to get even more wearable with a squarish design that weighs just 1.3 ounces. And if the Looxcie 3’s promo shots are any indication, the company’s hoping you’ll strap this video streamer to your kid’s chest and share that whimsy over WiFi (in 480p) live to Facebook. Or record and edit captured 720p video and stills from your smartphone (Android and iOS are both supported). The $100 compact cam supports microSD expansion up to 64GB so you should have plenty of space to keep the cherished memories (or banal moments) stored. You can order the Looxcie 3 now at the link below, but just FYI, the kid leashes are sold separately.

Wuakitv streaming video service exits beta in the UK

The Rakuten-owned, web-based Wuaki.tv video service announced today it’s officially ready for prime time in the United Kingdom. Following what the company’s calling a successful beta launch earlier this year, which helped it lure in “tens of thousands” of new subscribers, Wuaki.tv appears ready to go head-to-head with streaming services like Lovefilm, Netflix and, thanks to its flexible pricing scheme, iTunes. Moreover, Wuaki.tv points out that being available in Spain, and now the UK, only marks the beginning of its plans for The Old Continent, where it is aiming to be “fully launched in main European countries by 2015.”

Roku 3 finally goes on sale in Canada for $110

It wouldn’t surprise us to hear that some people in Canada have already managed to snag a Roku 3. But, the truth is the miniature video player’s just now officially hitting shelves there, nearly six months after its release in the US. Evidently, The Great White North availability signifies a footprint expansion for Roku’s newest box, and it provides interested Canucks streaming access to over 450 channels — even newly minted ones like Livestream’s. The Roku 3 will be available for $109.99 at many brick-and-mortar and online shops across Canada, including Future Shop, Best Buy, Staples, Walmart and more.

Lovefilm gets MTV and Nickelodeon through streaming deal with Viacom

Lovefilm gets MTV and Nickelodeon through streaming deal with Viacom

Earlier this year, Amazon reached a deal with Viacom to keep many of the media company’s shows on Prime Instant Video, even scoring some exclusive content along the way. Now it’s time for Amazon’s other streaming service, Lovefilm, to benefit from a similar agreement. As you’d expect, Lovefilm’s UK subscribers will now be able to enjoy a variety of content from Viacom networks, including shows on MTV, Comedy Central and Nickelodeon. And fret not if you don’t enjoy shows like Jersey Shore — at the very least you’ll have the likes of SpongeBob and Go Diego Go! to keep the kiddos busy while you catch up on Man v. Food.

LG inks Sky deal for exclusive Now TV streaming access on smart TVs

LG inks Sky deal for exclusive Now TV streaming access on smart TVs

When LG invited us to an event in (thankfully) sunny London, we thought we’d be hearing about 4K, curved OLED and huge price tags. It wasn’t about hardware at all, in fact, as LG announced it has partnered with Sky to add the Now TV movie and sport streaming service to its smart TV line-up. Starting in August, Now TV content will be exclusive to LG sets for “a minimum of 12 months.” Those purchasing new home entertainment kit will get three months of free access to Now TV’s movie catalogue, as well as three free 24-hour sports passes. If you’re in possession of an LG smart TV from this year or last, or a 2013 era Blu-ray player or home cinema system, you may miss the introductory offer but will still be able to download the Now TV app. The only kicker is that Now TV doesn’t currently broadcast HD content, so don’t expect those movies to pop on your 84-inch 4K monster.

Sky adding more on demand content, revamping Go apps for summer

Sky adding more on demand content, revamping Go apps for summer

Lounging around in the sun is great and all, but what to do on a rainy day? One option is to get some TV time in, and Sky’s got a few updates to share that might tempt you in front of a screen on dreary afternoons. At some point this summer, shows from Fox, Universal and SyFy will be available on Sky’s On Demand service, as well as content from Disney if you’re signed up for the Entertainment Extra package. Mobile apps will be getting a makeover, with “enhanced navigation” and a new design including bigger thumbnails when cruising through the VOD library. The Sky Go Xbox 360 app will also be updated to bring it in line with Microsoft’s UI style. Furthermore, Sky Multiroom subscribers will get access to Sky Go Extra, which allows you to download content in addition to streaming, at no extra cost in early July. Vitamin D’s overrated anyways.

Blinkbox goes HD for Game of Thrones season three, available July 15th

Blinkbox goes HD for Game of Thrones season three, available July 15th

Tesco’s VOD service Blinkbox beat all other UK players to the punch when it hosted the second season of Game of Thrones well before the box-set launch, and it’s doing the same with season three. It’s only just ended, but from July 15th, the latest series will be available to download or stream in its entirety, and what’s more, its arrival marks the first time HD content has been accessible on Blinkbox. You’ll also be able to watch season three in SD, should you want to, and both previous seasons will get HD options when the third lands. Pricing isn’t yet confirmed, but we’d expect the cost to be similar to that of season two, which was £1.79 (around $2.80) per episode, or £17.99 (around $28) for all ten. If you haven’t seen Game of Thrones yet, and we highly recommend you do, you’ve got just over a month to prepare for the Blinkbox launch and subsequent marathon.

Google Hangouts On Air updated with live broadcast rewinding and instant YouTube uploads

Image

Did helping granny set up that Netflix account cause you to be late to your friend’s big On Air Hangout? What would’ve been a calamity last week is but a minor hitch now. Earlier today, Google updated its live video streaming service with a new set of “highly requested” features. In addition to restarting a broadcast at will, recordings are now available on YouTube immediately after an On Air Hangout ends. As for you hams, video quality has been improved for mobile devices, so you’ll look your absolute best no matter which screen your adoring public is watching you from. As a caveat, Google notes that you may experience some delays when setting up a broadcast, but it feels like a small price to pay given the upsides.
