Vizio quietly posted that it sold out the Vizio Co-Star Stream Player pre-order in the first 12 hours that it was available.

The Co-Star, a cent shy of $100, uses Google TV and turns “any HDTV into the ultimate smart TV,” merging live TV and streaming entertainment, with apps and full-screen Web browsing.

Vizio Co-Star Google TV now up for pre-order

Vizio Co-StarIf you’re keen on picking up a budget-friendly Google TV set top box, you might want to check out Vizio’s Co-Star Google TV unit. Announced at the beginning of last month, the Vizio Co-Star will give your TV access to Google TV – which means Android apps, games, YouTube, Google Chrome, and more – all in the comfort of your living room. The Vizio Co-Star is also touted to be the first stream player in the market to offer video games with OnLive. So this means you won’t have to play “mobile” versions of games – instead, you can indulge full blown console/PC titles on the set top box.

If you’re keen on picking up the Vizio Co-Star when it goes on sale next month, be sure to place a pre-order for the device. The Vizio Co-Star will set you back $0.99 and will ship on August 14th. Check out the advert for the Co-Star below:

The $99 Vizio Co-Star Google TV Box Is Now Available To Pre-Order

vizio-co-star

Vizio pulled off a sort of coup with the Co-Star. This $99 Google TV box packs more features than Sony’s latest model and is half the price. Plus, I think the novel UI looks better than the standard Google TV interface. The box, which was announced last month, is now available for pre-order. It costs $99 and will ship August 14th.

The Co-Star ships with a dual-sided remote: QWERTY on one side and a touchpad on the other. A dual-core Marvell Armada 1500 powers the device. It sports the typical apps such as Netflix and Amazon, but also Onlive, which is the Co-Star’s prime attraction.

Onlive turns the Co-Star into a legitimate gaming machine. Owners simply need to pair one of the OnLive controllers to the box. From there, as long as the owner pays for the Onlive service, games are streamed to the box. And as someone who has played with Onlive since the beginning, I can attest that the service has matured from a novelty to a real thing. There is a touch of latency, but it’s hardly noticeable after a few minutes of playing. It’s almost like your mind adjusts for it.

With OnLive, a good price and Vizio’s typical stellar distribution, the Co-Star could turn out to be the star player Google TV so desperately needs.

Vizio Co-Star Google TV box up for pre-order

Vizio made a strong case for the reintroduction of Google TV when it announced the Co-Star box last month, offering full Google TV functionality plus OnLive capabilities for a penny under $100. The company has begun to take pre-orders for the Co-Star on its website, and is still offering free shipping for anyone willing to give the box a chance. You’ll get access to the full Chrome web browser, Google TV apps, and streaming games with the optional OnLive controller and subscription.

Naturally, the box will run apps from other services as well. YouTube is onboard, as is the ever important Netflix for all your movie and TV needs, and Amazon Instant Video is along for the ride too. The box plugs into your existing cable or satellite set top box via HDMI, allowing you to overlay Google TV on top of your current feeds so that you can get as much out of your television as possible.

Connectivity for the box includes WiFi b/g/n, and a single USB port for hard drives or other accessories. If you want, you can also stream content from other hardware via DLNA. The Co-Star should be shipping sometime in August, so if the whole package sounds ideal for your home entertainment needs, head on over to Vizio’s store to pre-order.

Vizio CoStar Google TV settop box is up for preorder, $100 brings it your way in August

As promised, Vizio has starting taking pre-orders for its Co-Star Google TV box. For a penny less than a Benjamin, it adds the new Google TV experience to your existing setup, and brings along its remote with QWERTY keyboard on the underside and integrated IR blaster. Based on one of Marvell’s ARM processors it’s ready for apps like OnLive, and now that the price is competitive with the hockey puck streamers like Roku, Western Digital or Apple, we’ll see which one consumers choose. August 14th is the current estimated shipping date, if you’d like to be the first with one (and take advantage of a “limited time” free shipping offer) before the box hits retailers hit the source link to get in line, or check out the press release and quick video preview embedded after the break.

OnLive reaffirms support for Marvell powered ARM Google TV boxes

While there has been a lot of speculation recently about which platforms the OnLive Google TV app will support for gameplay, the company is confirming support for / collaboration with Marvell’s 1500 HD SoC Google highlighted for its v2 hardware. While no specific devices are mentioned, there’s a Marvell brain in the Sony Google TV box we recently reviewed and the upcoming Vizio Co-Star, so unless a manufacturer blocks it, we’d expect to be able to install it and get playing — Gaikai purchases notwithstanding. Not mentioned in the press release (after the break) is LG’s custom CPU for its Google TVs, but since we’ve already got video evidence of it running there, we’re simply left waiting for the app to launch for the full console gaming experience sans-console.

Vizio XVT Series Cinemawide LED Smart TV with Theater 3D

If you are in the market for a widescreen TV, then you might want to hold your horses off from the next big name purchase from a more established brand name from Europe or Japan, but look towards one of the more recent newcomers to the scene – which would be Vizio. Just what does Vizio has in mind for the masses this time around? We are talking about the Vizio XVT Series Cinemawide LED Smart TV with Theater 3D that is their first 21:9 ultra-widescreen TV which has been available in the US.

Basically, this groundbreaking TV enables movie buffs to experience the latest Hollywood blockbusters without being distracted by the now all pervasive black bars that are located at both top and bottom of the picture. I suppose some of us are now even too used to it that we do not notice both black bars any more, but then again, with the Vizio XVT Series Cinemawide LED Smart TV with Theater 3D doing away with those black bars, you are might just be blown away by what you see.

The 21:9 Cinemawide screen that comes with this LED TV is definitely wider compared to the standard 16:9 screen which is what the majority of HDTVs out there offer, making it accommodate perfectly the 2.35:1 aspect ratio that is used for most major Hollywood films. In other words, there would not be any more black bars left to view. Not only that, a resolution count of 2560 x 1080p alongside Edge Lit Razor LED technology ensures you enjoy breathtaking HD at a higher resolution compared to standard issue 1920 x 1080 resolution. There is also a Smart Dimming feature that paves the way for a brilliant picture with outstanding contrast and detail, not to mention the integration of SRS StudioSound HD that makes this TV’s rich surround sound as immersive as the picture.

The XVT Series Cinemawide HDTV will also come with Vizio’s award-winning Theater 3D technology, delivering flicker-free 3D which is clear, crisp and up to two times brighter compared to conventional 3DTVs, letting you enjoy a vibrant cinema-quality 3D experience. There are also Vizio Internet Apps to keep you occupied, where this key component ensures you get to enjoy endless entertainment options courtesy of thousands of streaming movies, TV shows, and songs that are pulled straight from the Internet.

The asking price? We are looking at $2,799 for each purchase, although for a limited time only, it will be released at an introductory price point of $2,499.

Vizio XVT Series Cinemawide LED Smart TV with Theater 3D is now available

You know, I am starting to wonder whether the larger a TV screen is, must the name itself get more and more complicated? After all, that seems to be the case with the Vizio XVT Series Cinemawide LED Smart TV with Theater 3D, which is touted to be the first 21:9 ultra-widescreen TV that is available in the US. Vizio intends for the XVT Series Cinemawide LED Smart TV to cater for movie lovers, where it lets you enjoy the latest Hollywood blockbusters without being distracted by the two black bars – one at the top, and the other at the top and bottom.
