Vizio Windows 8 PCs get AMD and touchscreen refresh for 2013

The full Vizio PC line has gotten a boost for 2013 with what’s essentially the same great industrial design we saw first in 2012, coming on this time with AMD internals and full touchscreen displays. Perhaps the most interesting of these updates is the CT14 notebook being refreshed as the CT14T, coming in two models with one on AMD and the other with an Intel Core i7, both of them with the same sharp industrial design to keep them looking nice.

The CT14T will come with a 2.3GHz AMD A10 4657M processor in its CT14T-B0 configuration while its partner, the CT14T-B1, comes with 3rd Gen (Ivy Bridge) Intel Core i7 under the hood. Both models have the same 1600 x 900 pixel resolution over their 14-inch display, and both work with 128GB SSD and 8GB of RAM. These models are also (and have been thus far) called the “Thin + Light”, and they’re also, of course, classified as Ultrabooks.

Note: Vizio revealed a Windows 8 Tablet PC this week as well – as seen above.

The Vizio 15.6-inch notebook, also known as “Notebook” by Vizio, has also been refreshed a bit with two similar variants, AMD and Intel again with the same specifications on the whole as mentioned in 2012. This machine is the slightly higher-grade version of the Thin + Light though Vizio is marketing each model as its own unique beast, not necessarily as good/better. You’ll find that each machine has its own real benefits, and not just by size.

Vizio have also re-introduced their all-in-one machines (there’s two of them at this point), they having been refreshed back in late October 2012 and reviewed by SlashGear before they had touchscreen monitors back in early October. We’ll be getting our hands on them for the first time this week at CES 2013, so have a peek through one of two portals: first you’ll want to hit the Vizio tag portal to have a peek at everything they’ve got, top to bottom. Then you’ll want to see our massive CES portal as it expands throughout the week – be there!

Vizio Tablet PC leads the CES 2013 charge with 11.6-inches of Windows 8

This week the folks at Vizio have unleashed the full barrage of Windows 8 machines you’d expect from a burgeoning new manufacturer of such devices, starting with the Vizio Tablet PC. The thing is though, Vizio isn’t new, they’re only just entering the PC market now, having released several rather aesthetically pleasing (and rather nice to use) machines over the past year. Here during CES 2013, they’ve jumped in on the tablet market as well.

tabletpc_vizio

The Vizio Tablet PC works with an 11.6-inch display and runs full Windows 8 across a full 1080p resolution. Like the rest of the Vizio lineup across the board, you get a full Microsoft Signature install of Windows 8, this meaning you’ll get no “bloatware” as such, only what Microsoft originally intended for the operating system – Skype included. This machine also works with a fabulous dual-core AMD Z60 processor inside clocked at 1GHz – a rarity at this moment in time.

Also inside you’ll find 2GB of RAM as well as 64GB of SSD (solid-state storage, of course). This machine has a 2 megapixel camera on the front, micro-HDMI port on the side, and a microUSB port as well for connectivity to your larger machines (if you so choose to do so). This machine will almost certainly be appearing in Vizio’s hands-on lineup this week at CES 2013 so we’ll have a closer look at what it means to use this beast before the week is through.

Have a peek at a selection of Vizio posts in the timeline below to get an extended taste of what the company has been offering over the past few months, especially our most recent review of one of their all-in-one machines. Very sleek, very well thought out – we’ve got high hopes for this company, needless to say! Also be sure to take a peek at our CES hub all week for all the hands-on action you can handle!

Vizio debuts its first Windows 8 tablet, an 11.6-inch slate with a 1080p display, AMD processor

Vizio debuts its first Windows 8 tablet, an 11inch slate with a 1080p display, AMD processor

After breaking into the PC market last year, it was only a matter of time before Vizio released its first Windows 8 tablet. The company just announced the Vizio Tablet PC, an 11.6-inch slate running full Windows (i.e., none of this RT business). What’s interesting is the combination of specs here: on the one hand, it packs a dual-core, 1GHz AMD Z60 chip, making it among the first Windows 8 tablets with an AMD processor inside. At the same time, it rocks a 1080p display — not the sort of resolution you’d expect to find on a low-power tablet with a Z-series or Intel Atom CPU. Also, like the rest of Vizio’s PCs, this has a Microsoft Signature software install, with zero bloatware. Otherwise, the specs are pretty standard: 2GB of RAM, 64GB of solid-state storage, a 2-megapixel front camera and micro-HDMI / micro-USB ports. Vizio hasn’t announced pricing or exact availability just yet, but we hope to get hands-on with this thing very, very soon.

Vizio refreshes its PC lineup: all new models have touchscreens, quad-core CPUs

Vizio refreshes its PC lineup all new models have touchscreens, quadcore CPUs

When Vizio entered the PC market last year, we weren’t gushing about its computers, per se, but we found ourselves rooting for the company anyway: for all it got wrong (flaky trackpads, poor battery life), it did a lot of things right. We had to respect Vizio for giving most of its PCs 1080p screens and installing a clean, bloatware-free version of Windows. Not to mention, Vizio kept the price relatively low, the same way it did when it was trying to break into the TV space. Now, the company is completely refreshing its lineup for 2013, leaving only one model from 2012 (that would be its 15-inch mainstream notebook). Starting now, all of its all-ones and Thin + Light laptops will come standard with touchscreens and quad-core processors, including some from AMD (a first for Vizio).

What’s curious is that although Vizio is taking the opportunity to replace most of its PCs, it hasn’t actually made any changes to the industrial design. That means, for better or worse, that these new models will probably be quite similar to the PCs we tested just a few months ago. Same metal chassis but also, the same flat keyboard. What they do promise is faster performance, along with improved audio. Both the 14- and 15-inch Thin + Light Touch are available with either a Core i7 CPU or AMD’s top-of-the-line A10 chip. Likewise, the 24-inch all-in-one is now the All-in-One Touch, and it too will be available with AMD and Intel processors. The 27-inch model, however, will be Intel-only.

As ever, these machines will have that clean, Microsoft Signature install, and almost all will have 1080p screens, save for the 14-inch Thin + Light, which has 1,600 x 900 resolution. No word on pricing, though Vizio says they’ll go on sale in mid-February. We’ll be back soon enough with hands-on shots but for now, check out some press photos after the break.

Google TV Plans To Make A Big Return At CES With More Partners

[CES 2013] It looks like LG won’t be the only television manufacturer showing off its Google TV devices at CES next week as Google announced a number of other partners will be showing their own Google TV-powered devices.

Google announced Asus, Hisense, TCL and other manufacturers, including Sony and Vizio, will be showing off new and updated products that will be showcasing their support for the Google TV platform. The products will range from set-top boxes, integrated TVs and IPTV boxes from a total of 9 partners.

This past November, Google launched an update to its Google TV platform that added Voice Search as well as a new PrimeTime application, which will hopefully enough of an improvement over the previous Google TV platform to make the new products being showcased at CES next week worth your while. If not, then there’s always other similar platforms like Roku that can be plugged in and out of TVs without requiring you to purchase an entirely new TV set.

Vizio Co-Star gets Google Play support

Vizio‘s Co-Star streaming device now has support for Google Play, allowing users to download content and apps from the Play store and utilize it on their HDTV. Content can be synced from other devices to the streaming device, making it easier to manage purchases. The update was released today, and “will be pushed out automatically over the coming days.” The update also brings with it enhanced HDMI and audio stability, better Netflix performance, and faster menus and navigation.

The Co-Star is a streaming device that allows users to merge live TV broadcasts and media streaming, creating a smart TV of sorts. You can use the device to get apps, a Web browser, and media streaming on your HDTV. Apps include Netflix, Google Play Store, YouTube, Pandora, Amazon Instant Video, iHeart Radio, and more.

Technical specs include built-in wifi to keep things neat and uncluttered. The device supports 1080p full HD and is 3D-ready. The device can be connected to a cable or satellite box, allowing users to browse content or surf the web while continuing to watch their shows. The Co-Star uses Google Chrome for browsing, and supports Flash player.

One interesting component of the Co-Star is its remote, which is not only visually-appealing, but also surprisingly functional. Aside from the usual buttons, the “smart remote” features a touchpad for easy navigation. On the back you’ll find a full QWERTY keypad, as well as a colorful d-pad for playing games. You can pick up the device for $99.99.
