TICKR announced by Wahoo Fitness

wahoo-tickrWahoo Fitness is notable for being the first company to deliver heart rate monitoring to smartphones thanks to the Blue HR, and this time around, they might have outdone themselves yet again through a new range of heart rate monitors – namely the TICKR, TICKR Run and TICKR X. This particular TICKR range of heart rate monitors will be able to merge critical heart rate data alongside motion analytics, so that it is capable of measuring both your workout intensity in addition to workout motion. Using Wahoo’s motion based algorithms, it is capable of keeping track of an athlete’s movement, ranging from repetitions to acceleration to running mechanics, all the while offering feedback on improving form. Not only that, each TICKR dual band heart rate monitor will also boast of ANT+ and Bluetooth Smart ultra-low power wireless technologies. In a nutshell, TICKR is more or less future proof, where it will play nice with a slew of devices that range from smartphones to GPS watches, virtually making this the last heart rate strap you will ever need – at least, until it gives up the ghost.

Those who are interested in the TICKR, TICKR Run and TICKR X will be able to pick it up before the first half of this year is over, but unfortunately, no concrete release date has been detailed just yet. The TICKR line itself will start from a highly affordable $60, where should you opt for a more robust model, those could eventually surpass the $100 asking price.

The TICKR will measure your heart rate only, where it sports a dual band heart rate with ANT+ and Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) capability. As for the TICKR Run, it will feature a treadmill mode which tracks speed and distance while on a treadmill, in addition to the Wahoo Running Smoothness capability which tracks one’s running form and efficiency. Last but not least, there is the TICKR X that can be used with any sport, memory, or post workout synchronization. Relying on motion analytics to measure a variety of motion from repetitions to swim laps to cross-training to cycling, you can workout right there and then before synchronizing the entire shebang later on.

Wahoo Fitness announces the RPM Cadence Sensor

wahooWahoo Fitness has come up with yet another device for fitness buffs, which is the RPM Cadence Sensor. This is a lightweight and hassle free manner of tracking cycling cadence. It sports a convenient magnet-less installation and feather light weight of just seven grams, allowing the RPM to be attached to any bicycle in a jiffy as it shows off cadence data through the use of popular cycling apps. If you want to pick up the RPM, it will be available for $49.99 a pop, or you can opt for it to be bundled with the RFLKT Smart Bike Computer for $149.99.

Just how will the RPM Cadence Sensor work? For starters, it will be able to hook up wirelessly to the user’s iOS device thanks to Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity, where it will then be able to send cadence data to top cycling apps such as Wahoo Fitness (but of course), Strava and MayMyRide. Being different from the majority of speed and cadence sensors, RPM happens to be magnet-less, which translates to an easy setting up experience. LED lights will flash whenever it is connected to depict the fact that a wireless connection has been established, making sure that you know right from the very beginning that data is being actively logged. Apart from that, there is also no need to juice up the sensor at all, as it will be able to run on a single coin cell battery for up to two years so that the sensor can remain on the user’s bike between rides.

Among the features that can be found in the Wahoo Fitness RPM Cadence Sensor would include the ability to pair itself up with the Wahoo Fitness app in addition to other popular cycling apps, and being compatible with the iPhone 4s, 5, 5s, 5c, iPod touch (5th generation), and iPad (3rd and 4th generation). This should be a “must have” purchase for any cycling enthusiast who wants to up his or her game.

Wahoo Fitness introduces RFLKT: an iPhone-powered bike computer that lets handsets stay in pockets

Sure, you can turn your smartphone into a bike computer, but if you’d rather not put your pricey piece of tech anywhere near harm’s way, Wahoo Fitness’ RFLKT Bike Computer offers an alternative. Instead of packing all the brains, the device sits atop a bicycle’s handlebar and displays data it’s fed via Bluetooth 4.0 from cycling apps running on an iPhone 4S or 5. At launch, the hardware will support the firm’s own Cyclemeter application and Wahoo Fitness App which can monitor ride information ranging from location to speed, in addition to heart rate with additional accoutrement. Aspiring Alberto Contadors can page through data and even sift through tunes on their playlist with the help of buttons on the device’s side. Gently tipping the scales at 2 ounces, the RFLKT measures up at 2.4- x 1.6 x 0.5-inches and boats a one-year battery life on a single coin cell. Wahoo’s gadget is slated for a December launch, but there’s still no word on pricing. For more specifics, take a gander at the full press release below.

Wahoo Fitness KICKR Power Trainer

“There’s an app for that” seems to be a pretty popular mantra, but here we are with what could be testament to that particular bit of “truth” – the Wahoo Fitness KICKR Power Trainer. Touted to be the first iPhone-powered bike trainer in the world, the Wahoo Fitness KICKR Power Trainer was recently introduced to the rest of the world at the end of last month in Eurobike 2012. Just how does the Wahoo Fitness KICKR work? For starters, this iPhone connected bike trainer intends to modernize stationary training through the integration of top cycling Apps while delivering full resistance control, and all of these come from the iPhone itself.

Already an industry leader in iPhone powered cycling, running and fitness, Wahoo Fitness has lifted the veil on the Wahoo Fitness KICKR Power Trainer that enables cyclists and triathletes to set resistance, accurately measure power and complete App based workouts, finding yet another use for their iPhone. It will be out in the US later this November, which means it would make for the perfect Christmas present when Santa makes his rounds later this December.

The clever use of Bluetooth 4.0 and ANT+ technology will allow the KICKR Power Trainer to hook up to the iPhone, where you can increase or decrease resistance when pedaling, structure interval workouts or even simulate real world bike courses. All resistance adjustments made are instant, and your glutes as well as muscles on different parts of your legs will surely be worked out, should I say, in a “merciless” manner.

Chip Hawkins, CEO of Wahoo Fitness, said, “Cyclist and triathletes will be blown away by the feel of the KICKR. We spent a ton of time engineering the feel, fine tuning it for the most realistic ride we’ve ever experienced on an indoor bike trainer. With the wheel off design there is no need for calibration; the power is consistent and accurate every single time. The electronic resistance is driven by your iPhone or tablet, during a ride you can go from hammering up a 15% grade to coasting downhill, instantaneously”.

Wahoo KICKR Power Trainer lets iPhone cyclists feel the simulated burn (video)

Wahoo KICKR Power Trainer lets iPhone cyclists feel the simulated burn video

Wahoo Fitness’ BlueSC cycling sensor is well and good for iPhone owners that always have fair weather and friendly roads to ride. For everyone else, there’s the company’s just-unveiled KICKR Power Trainer, a bike training system that uses a Bluetooth 4.0 link with Apple’s device (or an ANT+ bike computer) to come as close as possible to the real thing. The KICKR can change resistance as soon as third-party iOS apps like Kinomap Trainer and TrainerRoad give the word, either arbitrarily for a routine or to replicate that on-asphalt feel at up to a 15 percent hill grade. Wahoo claims the super flywheel and wheel-off design improve the sensation of the virtual road and keep the measurements for both power and speed accurate over the long haul. If there’s anything holding back indoor athletes, it’s the launch. The KICKR will only land in US basements and living rooms come November, and while we haven’t been quoted a price, we’d wager that it’s much more likely to fall in line with the cost of a regular bike trainer than a sensor like the BlueSC.
