AT&T Samsung Galaxy S4 Available For Pre-Order For $168 At Walmart

AT&T Samsung Galaxy S4 Available For Pre Order For $168 At Walmart

Last week, AT&T started taking pre-orders for the Samsung Galaxy S4 with it expected to ship on April 30. According to the listing, AT&T looks to be asking for $199 when you sign up for a two year agreement, but it looks like Walmart will be offering the same phone at a much more discounted price.

According to Walmart’s listing, you can pick up the Samsung Galaxy S4 for $168 with two year contract, which apparently is good for both new AT&T subscribers as well as current customers. The difference will save you $31.99 when compared to AT&T’s asking price, which isn’t necessarily a huge discount, but it certainly is one worth noting. As for when exactly you can expect to pick up your Samsung Galaxy S4 from your pre-order at Walmart, the retailer doesn’t reveal an exact date at this point, although we’re certainly hoping it’ll be close to when AT&T expects to ship out its devices. Major Retailers Hint At Upcoming iPad 5 Release By Cutting iPad, iPad Mini Prices

Major Retailers Hint At Upcoming iPad 5 Release By Cutting iPad, iPad Mini Prices

It looks like the rumors of a new iPad being announced this month are starting to become stronger as not only did a number of well-connected sources say Apple has an event planned for the end of April, but we’re also seeing a number of retailers slash prices of their iPads.

Yesterday, Wal-Mart, Best Buy and MacMall reduced the prices of their 3rd-generation iPads and current iPad minis to about 30 percent across all versions, which may be a clear indication a new iPad announcement is just around the corner. What’s surprising is Apple seems to be ramping up its iPad production as in the past, they waited nearly a year to announce a new device. Now, it seems like Apple is planning to reveal a new iPad every 6 months as it was nearly that long ago when they announced the iPad Mini and 4th-generation iPad. (more…)

Walmart Considers Crowdsourced Delivery: People of Walmart Postal Service

There are clearly some executives at Walmart who have never actually ventured into one of their stores to see some of the unusual customers who frequent the world’s biggest retailer. While the vast majority of people in Walmart stores are reasonably normal, but there are a select few that nobody wants to seeEver. That isn’t stopping Walmart from considering an interesting way to get online orders to people more quickly and at a lower price.

Walmart executives are reportedly considering a crowdsourced delivery service. This delivery service would allow Walmart customers to pick up other people’s packages and deliver them to the people on their way home. Apparently, the idea is that Walmart would offer the customer delivering the package a discount on their purchase for doing so.

I can only imagine one of the many People of Walmart turning up at your door with your online order in hand – if they don’t steal it first. Walmart executives say that the crowdsourced shipping service is feasible and could turn up in the next few years. I think I’ll pass.

Walmart considers crowd sourced shipping

Walmart is the largest retailer in the world. The retail giant has put more than one small business out of business around the country because it’s almost impossible to compete with the prices Walmart offers. However, Walmart and many other retailers are now feeling significant pressure from online giants such as Amazon.com.

While Walmart rules in the retail world, Amazon dominates online. Walmart is looking at all sorts of ways to help improve its online sales and take back some of the online market it has lost to Amazon and others. One of the ways Walmart is looking to do this is by figuring out how to be able to ship orders more quickly to online buyers.

Reuters reports that Walmart is considering crowd source shipping. Walmart is said to be considering allowing its customers to sign up to be able to deliver packages to online buyers on their way home from the store. In exchange for delivering packages, Walmart would offer some sort of discount the cover fuel and presumably the delivery person’s time.

If successful, this crowd sourced shipping push would likely save Walmart some money and get customers their online purchases more quickly. Walmart CEO Joel Anderson says that he sees the path to ground sourced shipping. However, senior VP of Walmart US innovations Jeff McAllister says that crowd sourced shipping is only at the brainstorming stage. However, he points out that it would be possible in a year or two.

Walmart Considers Using In-Store Customers To Deliver Online Shoppers’ Packages

Walmart Considers Using In Store Customers To Deliver Online Shoppers Packages

Purchasing goods online has become the shopping method many people prefer these days as making a trip down to a store seems to be more of a hassle than what it’s worth. I know my UPS and FedEx drivers extremely well since I receive packages on a regular basis, but Walmart is considering having its customers deliver packages to its online shoppers.

The process, which is a form of “crowd-sourcing,” is being considered as a way for Walmart to better compete with Amazon’s shipping methods. Chief executive of Walmart.com Joel Anderson believes in a crowd-sourced future for its online shipping orders, which is currently carried out by either FedEx or its own deliver trucks. (more…)

Walmart expands iPhone checkout feature to 12 more markets

I’d wager everyone has shopped at Walmart at one point or another in their lives. I’d also wager that many people have had experiences where the checkout person was incredibly slow and seemed more interested in talking than ringing up your purchase. What you may not be aware of is that Walmart has been testing an iPhone scan and check out feature in some markets around the country.

walmart-shopper

Walmart has announced today that it is now expanding the iPhone scan and check out feature to 12 additional markets. The program is called Scan & Go and Walmart is bringing stores participating in the program to more than 200 stores from the current approximately 70 locations. Walmart began the pilot program near its home office in Bentonville, Arkansas in late 2012.

The program was later expanded to Atlanta and the latest increase will see it go even more locations. The Scan & Go service only works on the Apple iPhone, but Walmart says an Android version of the service will be available soon. The idea for the program is that shoppers can scan the barcodes on the items they want to buy using the Walmart app on the iPhone, iPad touch, or iPad.

The app will keep a running total of the costs of items they have put in their carts. Shoppers using the service can then go to the self-checkouts to pay, bypassing normal registers. As part of the program expansion, Walmart is also adding additional self-checkout lanes to many of its stores. Walmart says that about 1500 store locations currently have self-checkout lanes and another 1000 to 1500 stores should get the this year.

Walmart locations that will be getting the Scan & Go will be in the following markets: Denver, Colorado; Phoenix, Arizona; Omaha, Nebraska; Dallas and Austin, Texas; Oklahoma City and Tulsa, Oklahoma; Wyoming; Bozeman, Montana; Seattle, Washington; San Jose, California; and Portland, Oregon. It’s unclear if users of the Scan & Go service to check out at the register automatically using the app and a traditional payment method or if users must still scan every item in their cart at the self-checkout lane. If any of you have used the service in your local Walmart, be sure and let us know how it works.

Walmart’s Scan And Go Check Out iPhone Feature Expanded To Over 200 Stores

Walmarts Scan And Go Check Out iPhone Feature Expanded To Over 200 Stores

Walmart’s pilot program of the scan and go check out feature for iPhone is now being extended to over 200 stores, a substantial increase over the 70 stores currently participating in this program. The program began towards the end of 2012 in Arkansas and was then extended out to Atlanta. Using this feature, customers shopping at these Walmart stores scan barcodes on the items they want to purchase through the Walmart app and can then pay for them at the designated self-checkout counters. Even while using scan and go, the payment has to be made in the traditional way. There is a possibility that Walmart may consider mobile payment solutions, but it is not known as yet if the company is working on any such projects.

The pilot program is going to dictate user experience based on which Walmart will make the decision to roll out this feature in more stores. It currently has over 4,000 stores in the U.S. At this point in time the feature is only available for Apple devices, but Walmart says that soon it will be released for Android as well. Walmart aims to digitize customer’s shopping experience, and given how the vast majority uses smartphones, we just might see other retail chains doing something along the same lines.

Unlimited iPhone 5 data plan at Walmart actually has a cap

I’m sure there were a lot of iPhone fans out there that were excited when Walmart announced its new iPhone 5 with Straight Talk earlier this month. The plan was billed as an incredibly affordable $45 per month unlimited everything offering. At first glance, the biggest caveat was that you had to pay full price for the iPhone.

iPhone-5-hands-on-slashgear-109-580x456

Paying full price for an iPhone of any vintage is an expensive proposition with Walmart offering the iPhone 4 with 8 GB of storage for $449. The iPhone 5 16 GB model was available for $649. The thing that likely caught the attention of most people was the prospect of unlimited data for the iPhone.

Like most things that seem too good to be true, it appears that Walmart’s unlimited everything plan falls directly into that category. The data service offered on the plan is far from unlimited and has a miserly 2 GB data cap. Walmart apparently felt comfortable calling the plan unlimited because they won’t shut you off after you hit that two gigabyte monthly limit.

The data speed will get much slower after you hit the two gigabyte limit. Semantics aside, it’s extremely irritating when carriers promise “Unlimited” and then put limits on usage without being upfront with shoppers. I’ll never understand how this doesn’t qualify as bait and switch.

Walmart Canada Takes BlackBerry 10 Pre-Orders

walmart logo Walmart Canada Takes BlackBerry 10 Pre OrdersWalmart Canada has chosen their Facebook page to be the platform of choice when it comes to announcing their readiness to accept pre-orders for the first BlackBerry 10 handset. Over on that page, Walmart could be seen promoting the Time Shift mode on the new BlackBerry 10 camera, where this mode will allow the camera to capture images of your subject milliseconds before and after you snap the shutter, so that you can pick out the best facial expression for your picture. Sounds like something found in dedicated digital cameras like the Nikon 1 series.

You will be able to place your reservation for one of these puppies for $50 a pop, and it is nice to see RIM being a Canadian-based company offer retailers in their own country the first attempt at letting customers place a pre-order for the first BlackBerry 10 smartphone, where we do hope to see RIM bounce back from the doldrums in this do-or-die mission. Hopefully those of us living Stateside will know more about BlackBerry 10 at its press event this January 30th.
