Walmart offering iPhone 5 for $127, iPad 3rd-gen for $399

RadioShack’s and Best Buy’s respective iPhone 5 promotions might seem like an amazing deal, but they’ll be no match against Walmart’s own sale, because it looks like they’re offering the iPhone 5 starting at just $127, with the iPhone 4S starting at only $47. Plus, they’ll be offering the third-generation iPad for $399.

Walmart is slashing prices for a variety of Apple products beginning today. They’ll be offering the 16GB iPhone 5 for only $127 — $23 off the price of Best Buy’s and RadioShack’s deal. Walmart is also cutting the price of the iPhone 4S down to $47, from $89.97. Of course, these deals are only applicable after you sign a new two-year contract.

Also, if you’re in the market for an iPad, Walmart has lowered the price of the third-generation iPad down to $399, which is the same price that Apple is selling the iPad 2 at. Plus, with the purchase of a fourth-gen iPad, you’ll receive a bonus $30 iTunes card, which should be enough to get you up and running with some great paid apps from the App Store.

Furthermore, Walmart rival Target is offering an Apple sale as well, starting on December 16. They plan to discount Virgin Mobile’s prepaid 16GB iPhone 4S from $449.99 to $399.99, which isn’t a huge discount by any means, but now’s the time to buy a off-contract iPhone 4S if you’ve been meaning to. All of these deals from both Walmart and Target are only available in stores.

Vudu brings HDX 1080p streaming and downloadable movies to PCs

Vudu brings HDX 1080p streaming, downloadable movies to PCs

While HDX video has been a trademark for the Vudu service for years, when it launched streaming and Vudu-to-go downloads for PCs last year, they were limited to standard definition. That’s been corrected recently, as the service is now offering 1080p or 720p HDX video via the web. What you still won’t get on the PC unfortunately is higher quality sound as it’s still limited to stereo audio for now, and in our tests we weren’t able to access the Flash streams on a phone or tablet. Just log into the website and you should be able to try it out for yourself, however you will need adequate internet speed and an HDCP-compliant display — check out the details at the link below.

90% of This Year’s Black Friday Ads Have the Exact Same Items and Prices As Last Year’s Black Friday Ads

It’s not always super door buster TV deals that are better and even cheaper than last year, a lot of times big box stores sell the same exact items for the same exact price. Hell, sometimes they even charge more. NerdWallet took a look at Black Friday Ads and found some interesting stuff. More »

Throw the iPads in the air and break them up like you just don’t care

Thank goodness for cameras, nasty employees who would dip their dirty shoes on burgers and urinate on tacos and nachos are not getting away without getting fired. This video camera, in particular, was used by Walmart employees to record a “this is why you don’t buy an iPad from Walmart” video. The video, which is nearly 50-seconds long, showed Walmart employees at Pikeville, Kentucky throwing away iPads in the air while preparing them for sale. The video also shows one employee intentionally dropping an iPad on the floor while carelessly throwing it to another employee several meters away.

Of course, the primary motive was not to speed up the process of preparing the iPads for sale, the deed was obviously influenced by their desire to destroy the iPads, therefore jeopardizing Walmart’s precious reputation. Walmart has already fired the employees. “We were extremely disappointed to see such disregard for our customers and products. We are currently conducting an internal investigation and will be taking the necessary disciplinary actions. We’d like to reassure our customers that we are inspecting our electronic merchandise inventory and stand behind the products we sell. If there is an issue with a product you purchase at any location, it will be replaced or you will be refunded,” a Walmart spokesperson said.

"This Is Why You Don’t Buy an iPad From Walmart"

Walmart Moves Black Friday into Thanksgiving Dinner Time

Black Friday is a big freaking deal. But is it big enough to cut out on Thanksgiving dinner and go stand in a cramped, sad line outside of your local Walmart? Walmart thinks yes, of course it is, so it’s moved its Black Friday start time to 8PM. More »

Boxee TV hits Walmart aisles today, flashes more apps, guide webapp and 3 months free DVR service

Launch day has finally arrived for Boxee’s second hardware effort and now we’re finding out even more about it. As we heard yesterday, the $99 Boxee TV will be a Walmart exclusive at retail (also available via Boxee’s website), however early adopters in the holiday season can also expect a three month period to try out the “No Limits DVR” for free, plus a discounted service rate of $9.99 (normally $15) for life, three months of free Netflix access and a $5.99 Vudu credit. After the holidays, buyers can still expect free DVR trials, but there’s no details on exactly what is in store. The list of supported apps has also grown, with Spotify, MLB, TED, Wall Street Journal, Accuweather and Boxee’s own Cloudee joining the previously announced Netflix, Vudu, YouTube, Pandora and Vimeo on day one. Finally, we’ve got our first look at the HTML5 webapp that serves as a guide and second screen remote control.

For owners of the original Boxee Box, the company posted in a blog entry (the link appears to be down at the moment) that all back end support will remain running “for the foreseeable future” and an updated Flash Player is on the way. The bad news is that due to a lack of updates from Intel, it will not be able to upgrade the Netflix app for access outside the US and Canada, and agreements with premium content providers prevent opening it up for root access. The project has evolved a long way, from XBMC spinoff with a focus on support for locally stored and streaming video, then moving to a set-top box, offering OTA live TV viewing, and now its latest incarnation as a more conventionally shaped box built for OTA and ClearQAM channel viewing with the possibility of easier cable access in the future. We’ll be reviewing the new hardware soon, potential buyers (especially in New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Atlanta, Philadelphia and Washington DC where they can access the Cloud DVR) can check out the galleries for one last look or hit the link below to try out Boxee’s take on the future of TV viewing.

Boxee TV heads to Walmart shelves in time for the holidays

Boxee TV heads to Walmart shelves in time for the holidays

Boxee has some fairly grand plans for its Boxee TV set-top box, and it’s now set to get a sizeable boost from the biggest retailer around. According Bloomberg News, the device will be available at more than 3,000 Walmart stores in the US starting tomorrow, where the retailer is also said to be setting up displays to demonstrate the device and provide marketing materials. As Bloomberg notes, the deal comes at a fairly critical time for Boxee, which sold some 120,000 devices in the past year compared to 1.4 million Roku boxes and 5.3 million Apple TVs. It also comes on the heels of another attempt by Boxee to win over customers, with it announcing just a few days ago that that it’d be handing out free Boxee TVs to some early adopters.

Nexus 7 32GB in stock at Walmart

We already know what the 32GB version of the Nexus 7 will be priced at, thanks to an earlier report of the device showing up on Office Depot shelves. $250 will get the 32GB version, while the 16GB model will be $199. A second confirmation has just hit Walmart’s website, where the retailer is showing the 32GB Nexus 7 as “in stock.”

We thought maybe Office Depot accidentally released the new product a bit early at first, but the Walmart listings definitely prove that it’s no mistake. Walmart shows the two tablets in stock and ready to ship, and they can arrive on your doorstep as early as Wednesday if you choose rush shipping. Otherwise, standard shipping will have one at your house by November 6 (if you order it today).

Unfortunately, Google hasn’t yet recognized the release of the 32GB model or the price drop of the 16GB version. We’re guessing that they were going to officially announce it today during a planned Android event, but that was cancelled over the weekend due to the arrival of Hurricane Sandy.

Google was also expected to announce a larger Nexus tablet from Samsung, dubbed the Nexus 10, as well as the Nexus 4 smartphone from LG. We’re not sure when Google will have their Android event, but it will definitely stay postponed until Hurricane Sandy dies down. We’ll be posting a rundown later today that details all of the Android releases, rumors, and leaks from the past few days, so stay tuned.
