New DotA 2 Hero Terrorblade Revealed

terrorbladeThere is nothing quite like an update to a piece of software, and in the world of games, the usual “all in the cartridge or disc” rule does not apply any more these days. No sir, some games these days will continue to be playable with new characters and items from time to time, and DotA 2 is one of them. A new hero known as Terrorblade has been announced – and “new” here is relative, targeting those who have yet to play the first DotA (Defense of the Ancients). Apart from Terrorblade, word about the Random Ability Draft mode was also revealed.

Warcraft RTS: Alliance And Horde Is A Fanmade Successor For The Franchise

While Blizzard’s Warcraft franchise is now focused on the World of Warcraft MMORPG and the Hearthstone game, many gamers probably still fondly recall the original game as a real-time strategy game that they played on their computers, with cheat codes such as “it is a good day to die” and “make it so” that gave gamers a leg up over the computer. While it remains unknown if Blizzard will ever release a Warcraft IV, especially since StarCraft 2 is the developer and community’s eSport of choice, one particular modder has decided to take it upon himself to release his own take on the game.

Dubbed “Warcraft RTS: Alliance and Horde”, it is essentially the modder’s take on what Warcraft IV could be like. The game was built using the StarCraft 2 editor and interestingly comes with some features that have been borrowed from World of Warcraft and will also come with melee maps that gamers can use to play against other players. As expected it will feature two factions, the Horde and Alliance, with 14 buildings, 16 units, 18 heroes, and over 50 creeps to fight. The mod’s creator, StevenLuo, invested so much of his time and energy into the project that he has since quit his job, talk about dedication! More info on the mod and its download links can be found here, but in the meantime you can check out the video above to get an idea of what to expect.

Blizzard Signs On Life Of Pi Visual Arts Supervisor For Warcraft Movie

Blizzard Signs On Life Of Pi Visual Arts Supervisor For Warcraft MovieWe’ve been hearing news of Blizzard’s Warcraft movie for quite a while now, although so far it does not seem to be making any progress, especially with director Sam Raimi pulling out of the project alleging mismanagement on Blizzard’s part. However according to Blizzard’s Nick Carpenter, it looks like the movie might finally be progressing as he has announced that Bill Westenhofer has signed on to be the visual effects director for the movie.

For those unfamiliar with that name, Bill Westenhofer is an visual effects supervisor at Rhythm and Hues Studios which was in charge of movies such as Life of Pie in which they won an Academy Award for, The Golden Compass, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, Men in Black 2, Stuart Little and etc. If you enjoyed the visuals of those movies, which I personally did, then it looks likt the upcoming Warcraft movie could be a feast for the eyes! Still no word on when the Warcraft movie could be released, but it’s good to know that some progress is being made.

US Navy tests first 11meter missilefiring sea drone video

Advances in unmanned military tools and vehicles have come on leaps and bounds, but, until now, we haven’t seen a weapon firing drone operating in the seas. A recent test taking part offshore near Maryland saw several missiles launched from a new remote-controlled inflatable-hulled ship. While the Navy has used drones before for mine clearing and other defensive tasks, the small boat (similar to that pictured above) is the first experiment to involve true offensive capabilities. The almost zodiac-like craft has been an ongoing project over recent years, and contains a fully automated system which the Navy calls a “Precision Engagement Module” which uses an Mk-49 mounting with a dual missile launcher manufactured by Rafael. The hope is that such vehicles could patrol the coastline, or serve as a first defense against pirates, and other such small, fast-moving seafaring dangers. If you want to catch it in action, head past the break for the video, but don’t be fooled. While it might look like a series of misses, the Navy claims this is just a trick of the camera angle, with all six missiles apparently making contact.
