Batmobiles new and old hit the streets for Dark Knight Rises DVD release

The Dark Knight Rises – one of the biggest movies of the year – will be releasing on DVD and Blu Ray soon (December 4 to be specific), and Warner Bros. has one whopper of a promotion planned for the lead up to release. Starting this weekend, Warner Bros. will send a total of six Batmobiles on tour across the country. The Batmobiles span most of Batman’s Hollywood history, starting with the version seen in 1966′s Batman, The Movie starring Adam West and ending with the black and camo Tumblers seen in Christopher Nolan’s trilogy.

Of course, there were plenty of Batmobiles between 1966 and 2012, and those will all be on display too. These include the Batmobile Michael Keaton drove in Batman and Batman Returns, the one Val Kilmer cruised around in Batman Forever, and the one from 1997′s beyond terrible Batman and Robin. As an added bonus, the Batpod from Christopher Nolan’s films will be on display as well.

The tour kicks off this weekend at Cowboy Stadium in Arlington, Texas. On Saturday, the Batmobiles will be parked outside the Miller Lite Club, while on Sunday, they’ll be on display at half-time during the Cowboys’ game against the New York Giants. After the stint in Arlington, the Batmobiles will move onto Baton Rouge and New Orleans, Lousiana the weekend of November 3.

More dates will be announced later on, so no, the Batmobiles will not just be visiting those locations listed above. Make no mistake, if you’re a Bat-fan, this is about as good a chance as any to catch a glimpse at the various Batmobiles that have graced the silver screen throughout the years. Will you be making the trip to see these Batmobiles in person?

Warner, Redbox agree to 28 day delay on disc rentals, UltraViolet support for Redbox Instant

Warner, Redbox agree to 28 day delay on disc rentals, UltraViolet support for Redbox Instant

Redbox and Warner Bros. were at odds in January when Warner wanted to extend the window before discs hit kiosks to 56 days, but now the two have come to an agreement that keeps it at a 28 day delay. When their previous deal expired Redbox said it would find other ways to obtain discs and offer them day and date to its customers, although actually finding them in kiosks could be tough. The new two-year deal covers movies that debut after January 1st, 2013, and claims to improve economics for both Warner (which has apparently seen fit to eliminate the delay entirely for brick & mortar renters) and Redbox. Additionally, Redbox has joined with the DECE team and will support UltraViolet with its upcoming Redbox Instant service. With the new deal, it can offer UltraViolet digital access to Warner movies, and distribute movies through its subscription service. We’ll have to wait for Redbox Instant to launch to know more information about that, for now check out the details in the press release after the break.

Warner Bros. to ditch 28-day release delay for rental stores?

Warner Bros. to ditch 28-day release delay for rental stores?

Warner Bros. may have doubled its 28-day embargo on new releases for kiosk operators (even if they side-step it), but endangered bricks-and-mortar rental stores could be treated to the exact opposite. A rumor coming from Home Media Magazine’s unnamed sources suggests the WB is going to ditch the embargo for these locations altogether, starting on October 30th. We have no idea why this break would be offered to the relic stores, although we doubt they care if it gets a few more bodies through the door. Warner Bros. has a recent habit of quiet implementation, but just to be sure, we’ve reached out for confirmation and will update you if-and-when we hear more.

Sky bags exclusive rights Warner Bros. movie catalog, makes LoveFilm and others wait

Sky beats LoveFilm, bags exclusive rights to Warner Bros movie catalogue

Sky has bested its broadcast and video-on-demand rivals by signing a deal with Warner Bros. for exclusive rights to its films in the UK and Ireland. Once the six-month cinema window has elapsed, each new flick (including Man of Steel and The Dark Knight Rises) will remain Murdoch-only for a full year before arriving on LoveFilm and its kind. Meanwhile, back-catalog titles like The Lord of the Rings and The Matrix will remain locked in the partnership’s walled garden for an undisclosed period of time. Good news if you’re a Sky customer, we suppose, and not if you’re not.

The Dark Knight Rises Blu-ray trailer appears, confirms December 3rd release date

The Dark Knight Rises Bluray trailer appears, confirms December 3rd release date

Good for over $1 billion at the box office, Christopher Nolan’s third Batman movie is probably this year’s most anticipated home video release (The Avengers next week may have something to say about that) and now Warner Bros. has given us a trailer for The Dark Knight Rises on Blu-ray. Previous movies in the series have always delivered on Blu-ray, as well as his other recent hit, Inception. Unfortunately the video maxes out at 480p, but we don’t need any additional resolution to see the release date listed for both disc and digital download is December 3rd. Rumors have flown about different releases dates and possible extras like a director’s cut, but recently sources have indicated no such extended offering is in the works. Whether you think the flick was long enough (or even too long), you can press play to check out the clip embedded after the break…and clear the first Monday in December on your calendar for a trilogy viewing marathon.

Revamped Flixster.com gives one-stop digital movie access for both UltraViolet and non-UV stores

Revamped Flixstercom seeks to simplify movie access through both UltraViolet, nonUV connected stores

Since its purchase by Warner Bros. the Flixster brand has been used to push Ultraviolet via apps on mobile and connected TV devices, and now it’s bringing its website into the mix. The refreshed site is available as an open beta starting today that focuses on making it the center of your digital movie watching. Still using Rotten Tomatoes’ Tomato Meter as a method for ranking the quality of movies, the new site gives streaming and downloadable access to flicks in your UltraViolet locker as well as direct access to copies from iTunes, Vudu, Amazon or Netflix for purchase, rental or subscription viewing. Of course, while the studio proclaims it to be retailer and studio agnostic, there are plenty of opportunities to start or expand your UltraViolet library through promotions that do things like give away free digital copies of movies for sharing a link to friends, navigating the UltraViolet signup process or downloading one of the apps, which should be getting their own redesign soon. It’s not the only site in the business of making navigating the multiple online stores easier — Clicker immediately comes to mind — but the backend of the Flixster database of movies in theaters and at home, plus any registered digital copies is a specific advantage. Hit the source link to give the beta a shot and see for yourself.

Warner quietly extends the expiration dates of digital copies, discs remain ornamental

Warner quietly extends the expiration dates of digital copies, discs remain ornamentalMissed out on claiming digital copies of video included with your discs because the expiration dates have passed? Well, Warner Bros. wants to make such frustrations a mere memory, as Tech of the Hub has found it’s silently updated the use-by dates of a significant portion of its catalogue. By browsing the WB digital copy support page, it’s evident most titles are now available until May 17th 2017, although we did find several exceptions. Some may discover that despite the extension their original codes won’t work, but Gabe at Tech of the Hub was swiftly provided with fresh and functional ones when he notified WB, so we assume you’ll get the same treatment. With streaming support now available for many of these digital copies through iCloud and expiration dates a thing of the far future, there’s never been a better time to pack those shelves with limited editions and classic re-releases.

Peter Jackson’s 48 fps version of The Hobbit said to be a ‘limited release’ only

Peter Jackson's 48 fps version of The Hobbit said to be a 'limited release' only

All told, we can’t deny Peter Jackson’s caused some madness since announcing the scheme to shoot his upcoming Hobbit film at a high frame-rate, rather than sticking with the more common 24 fps, Hollywood-style method. Regardless, rumor now has it Warner Bros. is supposedly planning a “limited release” of the 48 fps version because, according to Variety, the studio “wants to protect the format” by choosing to go the select-viewing route — that said, WB’s allegedly hoping to “expand the HFR release for the second and third installments.” Still, nothing’s set in stone just yet, so we’d hold off on throwing any temper tantrums (or celebrating, depending on which side you’re on) until we hear something official from Warner.

Warner Bros. Seattle studios layoffs underway due to shifting business priorities

It’s a sad day over at Warner Bros.’ Seattle studios. We are hearing reports that the company’s WB Games in Seattle, composed of  Monolith Productions, Snowblind Studios, and Surreal Software, have laid off an undisclosed number of employees. The report was also backed up by 3D Realms founder George Broussard who tweeted, “Another Warner Brothers layoff going on as we speak. In progress now. Shame. Hope people land safely.”

Warner Bros. issued a statement yesterday confirming the rumored layoffs. “Due to shifting business imperatives, WB Games Seattle has made staff reductions. The group will continue to remain an integral part of Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment,” the company said in a statement. This is said to be the second time for Warner Bros. to axe jobs in the studio. WB Games Seattle is reportedly working on Lord of the Rings: Guardians of Middle-earth. The state of the game remains to be seen.

Catwoman spin-off tipped as Dark Knight Rises takes off

Those of you jumping for joy at having just seen the Batman movie you’ve been anticipating for four years can continue to to do a flip as both Anne Hathaway and Christopher Nolan have suggested a Catwoman movie may be in the works. Firs you’ll want to speak with Hathaway whose noted that it’d basically only be possible if Nolan is attached to the movie as well. With the Dark Knight trilogy director connected to the new Superman movie as producer, hypothesizing the same credit for Catwoman may not be that far off.

Christopher Nolan has stated that he is “done” with the Batman franchise, but there’s always room for involvement in other roles than the director’s seat. Nolan noted with Access Hollywood that Hathaway was not only more than great as Catwoman in The Dark Knight Rises, she’s certainly worthy of a follow-up as well.

“She’s an incredible character and we’re very excited to see her and hopefully we’ll leave people wanting more. … I certainly think she deserves [another chance], she’s incredible.” – Nolan

Speaking with Digital Spy this week, Hathaway confirmed that “it would be lovely” to continue to continue the Catwoman story from the point its at in The Dark Knight Rises. She also confirmed that she definitely did not base her Catwoman on past portrayals of the character, noting that “I thought it was probably best to focus on being a part of Chris Nolan’s Gotham City.”

“I think it would be lovely to see more of [Catwoman], but only if it’s with the right people. She lives in this Gotham City and so it would have to be established by the people who have made this Gotham City. For me, at least.” – Hathaway

You can see The Dark Knight Rises in theaters across the USA this week – get out there and experience the last of the trilogy!
