Most iPhone users are afraid to get even a drop of water near their phones, lest they one day be rejected by an Apple Store Genius. But when strapped into the iGills waterproof case, you can safely dive with your phone to a depth of 130 feet, and keep track of when you need to surface. More »
This week the folks at Boost Mobile and Kyocera have announced the final release date for the Kyocera Hydro, a device which we got our hands on earlier this Spring. This device is a waterproof smartphone with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, a unique set of hardware buttons, and the ability to be dunked into a bucket of water. This device connects to 3G data via its carrier Boost Mobile and is set to be your “eco-friendly” companion this summer.
This device has an Eco Mode, as they call it, which allows you to customize the phone’s battery usage through a series of activations and de-activations given certain criteria. The device has a 3.5-inch display, a 3.2 megapixel camera on the back with a single LED flash, and inside you’ll find a Qualcomm processor. This isn’t the next-level S4 you’ve been eyeing on the Galaxy S III, HTC One X, or Atrix HD, instead you’ll be working with a single-core 1GHz Snapdragon from a previous generation.
In other words, you’re not going to be playing high-powered games on this device and you’re certainly not going to be playing any awesome streaming HD video here – but you will get some good battery time. You’ll probably not have to charge all day, and if you drop your device in the drink, the drink will not destroy the device. Check out our full hands-on with this device to get a better idea of what’s coming your way soon.
It’s summertime, time for absent-minded running through the sprinkers with your smartphone in your back pocket. Thankfully, if you can hold out for a few more weeks without having some prankster toss you in a pool at a party, you can pick up the new Kyocera Hydro on Boost Mobile on August 3rd for $130 — just think of all of the money you’ll save on dry rice after your handset takes an accidental dip. The 3.5-inch Ice Cream Sandwich phone sports a 1GHZ processor and can stand being under three feet of water for up to 30 minutes. Jump into the the press release after the break.
The spiritual successor to last year’s Xperia Active has been given a performance boost. Now packing a dual-core 1GHz processor, Sony hopes it’ll manage to keep up with your surf-heavy lifestyle. At least, that’s the explanation we reckon underpins the Xperia go‘s (or Xperia advance) certified dust and waterproofing. The phone is notch above the Xperia miro and Xperia tipo hardware wise, although the software remains less so, leaning on the increasingly creaky Android Gingerbread. (Sony says it’s coming — but it wont be available on launch.)
Those curved corners and design lines bring it close to the aesthetic of the Xperia S, P and U — although it does lack that pervasive see-through bar. The increased processing power made web browsing a pretty painless affair, while wet finger tracking means you’ll still be able to use the 3.5-inch touchscreen in the British Summer surf. The device will be priced around £250 (around $390) in the UK and is pegged to arrive over the next few months in white, black and yellow — the latter has swiftly become our favorite. Take a visual tour of the yellow option in our gallery and hands-on video right after the break.

Rugged iPad cases seem to be in demand, and I guess it makes sense since people are taking their tablets all over the place. The LifeProof iPad case is both durable and waterproof, so you won’t be damaging your tech while on your adventures.
LifeProof makes some sturdy cases, and apart from offering military-grade shock and impact protection, the case is also waterproof for up to 6.6 feet. Though one interesting idea is that the screen of your ipad is actually exposed to the elements, and just sealed in place by a watertight O-ring. You’ll also still be able to use your headphones, which also has a watertight seal. The other port covers are also sealed.
LifeProof hasn’t yet disclosed the pricing of this rugged case, but you can leave your email at their website if you want further information. The LifeProof iPhone case costs $79.99, so expect the iPad case to cost more than that. The case is expected to ship in July.
It takes a leap of faith to trust your expensive electronics to a waterproof case. But LifeProof’s new Nuud case takes that trust to another level since it leaves the iPad’s display exposed, assuming it will protect itself. More »
