Blizzard Employee Auctions Off Rare 5-Year Sword: Start Farming for Dollars

The eagle-eyed GameSniped spotted an unusual bit of loot for sale at the real money auction house known as eBay. It’s a sword, but not just any sword: it was given to a Blizzard Entertainment employee in recognition of his or her 5 years with the company. Apparently the sword isn’t binding, so now you have to chance to wield the sword even if you weren’t the first one to find it.

blizzard entertainment 5 year sword

Blizzard holds an annual “Swords and Shields” ceremony to honor longtime employees. Five years of service qualifies for a sword, 10 years a shield and 15 a ring. According to Blizzard the design of the sword changes every year, which makes this item even rarer (if it’s the real deal, that is). However the shield and ring designs stay the same. I haven’t seen the ring but the shield is pretty sweet. It’s a replica of the shield on Lordaeron’s coat of arms.

Bid at least $510 (USD) on eBay to have a shot at earning the sword. Its rack does match the ones shown on Blizzard’s gallery, but I cannot vouch for the authenticity of this product. The auctioneer did say that the sword was given just last year, March 18, 2011 to be exact. That should help you verify if the loot is worth your hard farmed dollars.

Batarang Pocket Knives: The Dark Knife Rises

Forget tiny little pocket knives. This Batarang Pocket Knife steps things up a notch. It’s the kind of pocket knife that Batman himself would carry. Well, it comes in several bright colors that would appall The Dark Knight and his design sensibilities, but otherwise these Batarang knives look pretty awesome.

Batman Batarang Knife
It’s a Batarang, but it’s also a dual bladed pocket knife. When both blades are open it is basically an 11″ knife. Sure, it isn’t particularly practical, but it’s still a bladed weapon. It’s not supposed to cut your sandwich in half. It’s just supposed to look cool. The knives come in black, silver, red, pink, and purple. Three guesses which one the Batman prefers. They start at $8.18(USD) from Amazon.

This Revolver is the World’s Smallest Fully-Functioning Firearm

In no way do we here at Technabob condone gun violence (except in video games.) That said, are you prepared to lay your eyes on the coolest and smallest functional revolver in the whole wide world?

Swiss Mini GunIt’s size is about a quarter of a regular person’s palm, and while it shoots real (mini) bullets, it won’t hurt upon impact. Heck, even BB guns can do more damage than these babies.

They’re 100% Swiss-made and their workmanship is exemplary, from the looks of it. They’ve even got their own miniature holsters to keep them handy, just in case the owner wants to shoot a Lilliputian. That is, if they existed.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t meet the U.S. Factoring Criteria for weapons so SwissMiniGun won’t be able to ship them out to the States. People from elsewhere can order them online for 6,300 Swiss France (~ $6,422 USD). Oh, did I mention that they’re also hella expensive?

3D-Printed Semi-Automatic Rifle Actually Works

I guess it was only a matter of time before 3D printers were able to replicate or start making some more, shall we say “handy” tools. Check out what amateur gunsmith HaveBlue was able to do with his own 3D printer! Yep, that’s an AR-15!

3d printed rifle haveblue front

HaveBlue 3D-printed out the lower receiver portion of an rifle after assembling it onto a .223 upper portion. Apart from a few little problems, HaveBlue states that the rifle functions like a real one, and has actually fired over 200 rounds with it.

While the metal firing components and barrel of the gun weren’t 3D printed, it’s still impressive that a good chunk of this weapon was fabricated using 3D printing.

Yellow Jacket iPhone Case Doubles as Stun Gun

Do you live somewhere dangerous? Then this case might solve all of your problems, because as the smartphone mantra goes, “there’s an app for that“. Though in this particular case, it’s not an app but a case. Yep, the Yellow Jacket slides smartly over your iPhone and turns it into a stun gun, to effectively diffuse dangerous situations.

The Yellow Jacket was created by Louisiana resident Seth Froom. It’s supposed to deliver a shock and at the same time, double as an external battery for your iPhone.

If it tickles your fancy, you can head over to the Indiegogo crowdfunding site. A $100 pledge will get you your Yellow Jacket – assuming the project gets funded. Just keep in mind that stun guns aren’t legal in all states and countries, so check with your local laws before ordering one.

This Terrifying Killing Machine Can Loiter for Six Hours Before Attacking Its Target Like a Mad Hawk [Video]

The Fire Shadow is an unmanned flying machine that can loiter unnoticed, hovering over an area for six hours, waiting to receive a kill order on any designated moving or static target—and then fall on it like a suicidal bird of prey to destroy it. More »

Fish Hook is Also a Gun, They Won’t Get Away Now

Fishermen are always talking about the one that got away. Clearly, that’s because they aren’t using the right hook. See this one? There’s a tiny hole in the bottom of the shaft. When a fish gets caught and yanks on the hook, the consequences are deadly. It discharges a 4mm centerfire cartridge and, if all goes well, shoots the fish.

fish hook gun
Sure, shooting fish is cheating – and possibly against some sort of laws – but would you rather waste a whole day and catch nothing? This isn’t a new gadget and you can’t buy it at your local sporting good store. These guns were actually produced in the late Nineteenth and early Twentieth Centuries. I just thought it was cool and had to share it. I’m kind of surprised that no one has made a modern version though.

If you get your hands on one, it is not a good idea to use it though. This is certainly not safe and has accident written all over it. Getting one of these caught on your finger has far worse consequences than your typical fish hook.

Theme Park Lets You Drive Your Own Tank!

I don’t know about you, but ever since I saw the 1984 movie called Tank with James Garner, I’ve had a desire to drive a tank for myself. I think it would be awesome to drive the tank and if they let me shoot its gigantic gun, I might have a nerdgasm. Well, as it turns out, there’s a park in southern Minnesota that can fulfill your tank-driving dreams.

tank drive

The business is called, aptly enough, Drive-a-Tank and offers any driver the chance to get behind the controls of surplus military tanks and other armored vehicles. The park allows you to drive them around an old limestone quarry and you can even smash junk cars.

The tanks used at the park are Cold War era surplus items and there are now 11 different vehicles available on the 20-acre site. The site is 50 miles southwest of Minneapolis if you’re thinking about going. A basic package that lets you drive the tank and shoot a machine gun is $399. You can also go for more expensive packages that let you drive several vehicles and shoot other weapons including assault rifles. If you want to smash your own junker car with the tank, you need to cough up $549. If you want even more, for $3500 you can drive the tank through a trailer house.

The Power of Zeus, In The Hands Of The U.S Military

Picatinny Arsenal, an armament company specialized in both conventional and smart weapons is working on something that goes beyond kinetic-energy weapons, which is a fancy terms to describe “throwing stuff at the adversary”. In their own words, they seek to “harness the power of lightning” – quite ambitious if you ask me.

The end-game they say, is to be able to target anything that conducts electricity. To create lighting out of thin air, the company uses a very intense laser beam. Unlike “normal” weaponized lasers, the beam itself is not the weapon here. Instead the beam is so powerful and so focused that it can “rip electrons off of air molecules” says Picatinny. The mean then serves as a guiding mechanism for the energy to the target. (more…)

LIPC weapon combines lasers and lightning, proves soldiers are a bunch of nerds

The problem with laser weapons is this — they need a lot, a lot of power. Seriously. Some of those big, plane-mounted prototypes choke down enough juice to power a whole city. Not so with the Laser-Induced Plasma Channel weapon being developed by researchers at Picatinny Arsenal. While still using plenty of electricity, this more moderately specced laser is just powerful enough to strip electrons off the air molecules around it generating a thin filament of plasma. Its not the high-intensity laser pulse that does the damage, though. Instead, the channel of plasma is used as a conduit for a high-voltage blast of electricity. That laser-assisted bolt of lightning could disable vehicles, people and even IEDs. There are plenty of obstacles, including making the weapon rugged enough for battlefield use and reliable enough to keep the plasma channel from leading the blast of electricity back into the laser and damaging it. Now, if only we could find the video that still above was taken from.
