True Player Gear: An Oculus Rift Alternative

True Player Gear: An Oculus Rift AlternativeIt seems that not everyone is too happy about Facebook acquiring Oculus VR and we’re not sure why. However if you’re one of those who are upset at the acquisition, fret not because not only is there Sony’s Project Morpheus as an alternative, but there is also True Player Gear.

Wait, who? Well for those unfamiliar with True Player Gear, they are a company from Canada who has created a virtual reality headset of their own. The company has been around for about 6 years and they even debuted their technology back in E3 2006, but safe to say that things have definitely progressed from then until now. (more…)

Sony’s Project Morpheus GDC Presentation Now Available To All

Is virtual reality set to become the next big thing in terms of entertainment? Or will it end up like 3D technology where it has been relegated to something of a novelty feature? Well if Facebook’s interest is any indication, it looks like virtual reality does appear to be poised to become the next big thing.

Now the Oculus Rift is definitely not the only virtual reality headset in the market at the moment and Sony has entered the fray themselves with Project Morpheus, a virtual reality headset of their own. Now if you were unable to attend GDC 2014 and were wondering what Project Morpheus is all about, Sony has since uploaded Project Morpheus’ entire GDC presentation. (more…)

Loopd, Hyper-Local Communication and Social CRM iPhone App

Using a proprietary version of multi-peer Bluetooth, the Loopd iOs application allows users to search and connect with contacts within a few feet without using a GPS. As the example described in the video (see above), you can see who you know at a party and start a chat session on the spot, to find in which room your contact is. This could be very useful during large tech conferences, such as CES or MWC where unplanned meetings based on “real-time proximity” would be more efficient than scheduling meetings far away apart.

Loopd is launching the IOS app today and plans to unveil its wearable tech component in June.  From my email conversation with CEO Brian Friedman, I learned that the upcoming loopd bracelet will use gesture to let people exchange their contact info with a simple handshake. I cannot wait to see and try this cool gadget!

Facebook’s Acquisition Of Oculus Will Make VR Cheaper, Says Oculus Founder

Facebooks Acquisition Of Oculus Will Make VR Cheaper, Says Oculus FounderWe guess it really isn’t a secret anymore that Facebook will be acquiring virtual reality technology company, Oculus VR. In fact this is actually good news for the gaming community and virtual reality technology in general because with Facebook’s backing, Oculus VR will have access to resources that they might not have had before, especially in the face of Sony’s own VR efforts, Project Morpheus.

This line of thinking is also what Oculus’ founder, Palmer Luckey, appears to be thinking of as well in a recent interview that he and Brendan Iribe had with the folks at The Verge recently. According to Luckey, this deal with Facebook will not only provide the company with resources, but at the same time ultimately help to make virtual reality technology cheaper. (more…)

Facebook’s Quest For Oculus VR Began Three Months Ago

Facebooks Quest For Oculus VR Began Three Months AgoIt is safe to say that Facebook’s recent (surprising) announcement that they would be acquiring Oculus VR caught many by surprise. After all Facebook has never really expressed that much interest in gaming, save for the Facebook Games feature, not to mention there has not been any indication that Facebook was even remotely interested in the company to begin with.

In fact Facebook’s acquisition of companies like WhatsApp and Instagram made perfect sense since they had to do with communications and social media, but as is the case with most acquisitions, this was not an overnight decision, nor was it an impulsive one either. (more…)

Minecraft For Oculus Rift Cancelled Post-Facebook Acquisition

Minecraft For Oculus Rift Cancelled Post Facebook AcquisitionAs many have probably heard by now, Facebook recently announced a surprising acquisition of Oculus VR, the company behind the Oculus Rift virtual reality headset. This has big implications not just for Facebook, who will now be expanding into new territory, but also for developers who have/had plans to develop games for the Oculus Rift.

Now according to a recent tweet by Minecraft’s creator, Markus “Notch” Persson, it seems that he did not take the acquisition too well and has since announced the cancellation of Minecraft for the Oculus Rift. “We were in talks about maybe bringing a version of Minecraft to Oculus. I just cancelled that deal. Facebook creeps me out.” (more…)

Nokia’s Smartwatch Could Debut At Microsoft’s BUILD [Rumor]

Nokias Smartwatch Could Debut At Microsofts BUILD [Rumor]It looks like early rumors were right and Nokia will indeed be hosting an event of their own during Microsoft’s BUILD conference. The event is expected to unveil new Nokia Lumia Windows Phone handsets like the Lumia 930 and the Lumia 630, but is that all Nokia has to share with us at the event?

According to the invite sent out by Nokia which contains an animation in the “More” word, the “O” keeps flipping around to reveal various icons, one of which (see screenshot above) resembles that of a clock pointing at 1:50AM/PM. (more…)

Ubisoft Clarifies Stance On VR Technology

Ubisoft Clarifies Stance On VR TechnologyLast week during GDC 2014, companies like Oculus Rift and Sony unveiled their new virtual reality efforts. It certainly seems like exciting times are ahead of us because based on the prototypes alone, many seem to be reacting positively to the concept of virtual reality gaming, so we can only imagine what the final product could be like.

However it seems that Ubisoft expressed a bit of reservation about such technology, with their vice president, Lionel Raynaud, stating that only if 1 million units of VR technology was sold then can it only be considered a viable piece of technology. Ubisoft has since released a statement clarifying what Raynaud really meant when he said that. (more…)

New LG G Watch Photo Shown Off On Facebook

New LG G Watch Photo Shown Off On FacebookJust last week, Google announced Android Wear which is essentially a version of Android that has been designed for wearable technology in mind, like smartwatches. Along with the announcement of the platform, Google also unveiled some partners that would be taking advantage of Android Wear, such as LG with the G Watch and Motorola with the Moto 360.

Now back then LG unveiled a teaser photo which was kind of shadowy and didn’t really give us a good look at the device in its entirety, and perhaps looking to change that, LG has since uploaded a photo onto its Facebook page where they show off the LG G Watch in a clearer photo. (more…)
