Ostrich Pillow Light will let you power nap anywhere

Ostrich Pillow Light
What is the thing that we all want more of, but can never have? If you sang out ‘time’ with the rest of the world, then go ahead and give yourself a pat on the back. We’re all flying through life by the seat of our pants, and things are only becoming faster and faster paced. Of course, that doesn’t mean we’re becoming healthier or happier, but a lot of things are definitely getting done. While we all could use a nap now and then, finding a good spot to do so is a pretty difficult task.

If you wish you could just doze off at a moment’s notice, then you might like the idea of the Ostrich Pillow Light. It’s predecessor is the Ostrich Pillow, but it was just too big for those of us that like to pack a little lighter on a day to day basis. This Light version is just enough to give you the sensory deprivation that you need to doze off peacefully.

It’s extremely lightweight and portable, and fits just like a scarf would. It’s made of a Viscose/Elastomer blend with a bunch of Micro polystyrene beads inside. These are all handcrafted in Spain, and have an adjustable opening so your head will fit through. You won’t be able to stick this in with the wash, and it’s recommended you just spot clean it with soap and water. This will cost you around $55, and is certainly a step up from the U-shaped neck pillows that usually fail to do their job correctly.

I put on my Technomage Hoodie and wizard hat

technomancer_digital_wizard_hoodie
The website ThinkGeek has an excellent tradition of making amazing products that are April Fool’s jokes, and later turning them into tangible things you can buy. In 2012, they created a very awesome, but very fake hoodie that had light-up and sound effects perfect for those who like role playing games, or just to look snazzy on the dance floor. It was all just a joke, until now.

The Technomage Digital Wizard Hoodie is a sweater that will let you cast spells, each with their own light pattern and sounds. Of course, it’s not just a matter of wiggling your fingers and saying ‘hocus pocus’. There are intricate motions you need to do for each spell, and it will take some time to get them down pat. That being said, this may not be a good purchase for those who can’t master timed movements.

This is made out of cotton, and needs 6 AA batteries to function. While it is machine washable, you will want to remove all of the electronics before you stick it in with water and soap. It’s available in sizes small to a XXL. After each spell you’ll need to put your arms in the ‘restore mana’ position. It is capable of 9 spells, including electroshock, thunderbolt, restore health, fireball, shockwave, energy beam, raise the dead, warp, water bending, and color casting. I desperately hope someone hacks this so they can do earth, fire, and air bending too. It will cost you $120, and will certainly be the talk of your gaming group.

Available for purchase on ThinkGeek.

Lockpick Earrings make sure forgetting your keys isn’t a problem

Lockpick Earrings
We’ve all done it at least once. The keys are on the counter, in a drawer, fell out of your bag, or worse, are locked in your car. Unless you have a roadside assistance service at your fingertips, you’re going to have to call a professional. Let me tell you that’s no cheap endeavor either. Not to mention you get to deal with the shame of having to call someone to bail you out of a bad situation because you forgot an essential item.

While you likely aren’t carrying a lock pick around in your pocket, there is a way to have a kit on you. It comes in the form of earrings, and they are both elegant and useful. They have intricate patterns and at first might look like pretty, dangly pieces of jewelry, but they are much more. Owning this pair of Lockpick Earrings will give you access to a small hook pick, a small half diamond pick, a single ball rake, a C-rake, an S-rake, and a tension wrench.

The picks are a “.02 stainless steel, which means they are lightweight, but still strong enough to get the job done. They are held onto the earring with silver-plated jump rings that will allow you to piece apart the set when you need it. Don’t worry, these can be worn every day, and won’t snap on their first use. They’ll cost you $35, which isn’t bad for a nice set of earrings, especially when they have a special function. Try to make sure you use this power for good and not evil though, yea?

Sundial Ring – Let’s you Give the Gift of Time

21SGhqtMlJL

I know a lot of girls who might be looking for a ring this holiday season, but if you’re not quite ready to make that kind of commitment, or you’re just looking for an unusual present to give that special someone, we have you covered.

Check out this nifty little ring that can actually tell the time. Designed to be a modern version of the Aquitiane Sundial Ring that Queen Eleanor had designed for her husband, Henry II of England, so he would always know when it was time to head back to the castle. This interesting, and quite unusual ring can be worn on a size 10 finger, or on a chain, or leather cord as a pendant that would be sure to be a conversation piece.

One simply needs to turn the ring dial so that the tiny hole aligns with the month, and then turn the hole so that the suns rays will shine through it, and where that ray lands will tell you the time. No batteries required. You can even calibrate the ring to take into account your latitude, so the ring will work wherever you are. Made of durable stainless steel, with acid etched markings, this gift is sure to be a hit. Of course Henry imprisoned the Queen in a castle and ran off to party with his friends, never worrying too much about the time, but that’s another story.

For this, or other gift ideas from your friends here at coolest-gadgets, be sure to check out our cool holiday gift guides, or just go ahead and buy the Sundial ring for under 33 bucks from amazon.com.

Normincies Laptop Bag doesn’t need gimmicks to know it’s awesome

Normincies Bag
While we may be geeks, nerds, and dorks, we are still professionals. We need to carry ourselves with a certain amount of confidence that says, “I know what I’m doing” (even if you haven’t got a clue). This is normally achieved by wearing clean clothes that aren’t solely ironic t-shirts and jeans, and keeping our gadgets and gizmos organized. Some prefer backpacks, others prefer messenger bags, but nothing says ‘professional’ like a briefcase.

Of course, given the amount of items we need to carry, it can’t just be any old thing. The Laptop Bag from Normincies doesn’t have a name besides ‘laptop bag’ because it is wholly and simply that. This is a leather bag that can either go in messenger bag or briefcase mode depending on your situation. It has room for your laptop, phone, business cards, an external HDD, mouse, USB sticks, a tablet, and much more.

It has an elastic handle with an aluminum frame, water-repellant zippers, and can hold either a 13 or 15” laptop. There are only classic colors of black, light brown, and dark brown leather to choose from. They range in price from $650-670 for those of you that are interested. This is definitely a bit more refined than necessary, but if you have the money to toss at it why not, right? As it is made of leather, you’ll want to make sure you take proper care of it so it doesn’t last as long as any mass-produced backpack would.

text-bands-purple-black-482

It’s no secret that kids these days love their technology. It’s not unusual to find kids glued to their phones or computers. There aren’t to many little gizmos out there that actually encourage kids to connect and interact with their buddies, especially younger kids. It would be nice to have a little gadget gift for the elementary school set.

Well, here it is, check out Hallmark’s Text Bands, cute little watch-like bands that help your little ones swap messages, words, or secrets, and inside jokes by wearing one of these fashionable bands and then bumping fists, shaking hands, high-fiving, or a half a dozen other ways we haven’t even thought of.

Simply choose a starter band, that comes equipped with a text module, and that’s where the fun begins. When your kids see other kids wearing a Text Band, they can instantly transfer their messages from band to band. Bands themselves can also be changed and traded, with many colors and themes available.

Set up is easy, simply enter up to 10 characters into the screen on the band , and swap them with a fist bump or hand shake. The bands light up as the message transfers from band to band and your Text Band holds up to 24 messages at a time, giving kids the perfect excuse to connect with their friends again and again. A great stocking stuffer, for under 10 bucks, at amazon.com.

Leather Genius Gloves bring classy and modern together

Leather Genius Gloves
In the winter time, we always concern ourselves with keeping bundled up to fight off the cold weather. No one wants to get sick just because they didn’t put on a scarf and gloves. While this was our only concern 20 years ago, we now want to be on our smartphones to distract us from our surroundings. However, the only way to continue to be on your phone and keep on gloves is to get a pair that has conductive thread on the tips.

The huge annoyance with this is that the fingertips are normally a different color than the rest of the glove. For those who have expensive tastes and want a classy looking pair of gloves that fit in with this modern world, you might enjoy the Leather Genius Gloves. These are high-quality hand coverings that will allow you to flip the thumb and index-finger tip back so you can use touchscreen devices.

These are made out of Italian Kid leather, and are lined with 100% Cashmere. Made in Italy, they are targeted at men, but that doesn’t mean ladies should be deterred. However, what might get you to decide against these is the $175 price tag. I’m always afraid with gloves like these that there will be a bit of a draft into your gloves because it isn’t seamless. Either way, if this suits your fancy and you have the money to throw at it, go for it. Just remember that you’ll have to treat these nicely if you want them to last.

The Floating Cap – and we all float on

Floating Cap
Not everyone learned how to swim when they were little. There’s nothing shameful or wrong about that, but it can be annoying as an adult to be scared of not being able to keep your head above water. While you don’t want to don the inflatable floaties, there may be a way to keep your dignity, and not drown.

The Floating Cap is a combination of Neoprene, polyurethane foam, and Lycra that is intended to make sure your head stays above the water’s surface. While this is actually meant for those who enjoy going to a hot spring in Iceland, it doesn’t mean that’s the only place you can use it. This would be perfect for floating along in a swimming pool or hot tub at home or in your local area. Thanks to their material make-up, they will look more like water weights and a swim cap rather than floaties.

Another plus side to this is the noise-cancelling quality they would have. You could go to a public pool, and not be as annoyed by the myriad of screaming children around you. Doesn’t mean they won’t crash into you or splash you on occasion, but it’s a small step. The medium cap in either black or blue will cost you around $110. This is a pretty hefty price for just a swim cap, but is small in comparison to drowning because of pride. Those who want the leg or arm bands will have to chuck an extra $65 at the checkout price.
