HBO GO Now Supports Google Chromecast Across iOS, Android, Web

Ever since Google revealed its Chromecast, companies have been slow, but steady, to support their streaming content device. Companies like Hulu and Pandora have shown their support for the Chromecast, and today, one of the most popular streaming video service for a premium cable company has just announced they’re supporting the device. Of course, we’re talking about HBO GO. (more…)

Microsoft Launches Anti Google Scroogled Product Line

It’s that time of year again. No – we’re not referring to the upcoming holiday season or the end of the year. We’re talking about that magical time that comes once a year where Microsoft launches anotherScroogled” campaign against its competitor, Google.

Pinterest Announces Place Pins For The Avid Traveler

Pinterest Announces Place Pins For The Avid TravelerIf you’re thinking about a place to go for the weekend, or perhaps planning a major tour around the US or Europe with family and friends, it’s best to plan the places you want to visit, how to get there, and find out what sort of attractions are around that area as well. If you’re an avid user of Pinterest, the social media website has announced a new feature called Place Pins which basically allows you to start mapping out places you want to go with images, get directions on how to get there, find out details such as addresses and phone numbers of places you want to visit, and best of all, be able to share them with your friends as well.

Pinterest used to be a tool where users would find cool stuff and pin it on their board, sort of like having your own personal space where you can collect cool things and share it with other people who might be likeminded in their interests as well. However it turns out that the tool has since grown and Pinterest started to notice more users pinning locations, such as places they plan to visit someday, which birthed the new Place Pins tool. It’s a pretty cool idea and if you’d like to learn more, or check out some examples of Place Pins being used, hit up Pinterest’s blog for the details.

Social Media Experiment Proves How Easy It Is To Find Out Things About A Total Stranger

When we tweet, update our status, or post a photo onto Instagram, we don’t really think too much about it. In fact it seems that despite all outcries of invasion of privacy from the government, we are all too willing to share where we are, what we are doing, what we are thinking, and how we look like with complete strangers on the internet. It seems innocent enough, at least until Jack Vale decided to pull a prank on strangers by acting like he knew them, such as their names, how they look like, and when their birthdays are simply based on tweets and Instagram posts that are the closest around him.

The result was a little creepy and highlights how much of ourselves we put out there without thinking twice about it. Not to mention anyone could pull our information at any given time, and yet we don’t seem too fussed about it. I personally am not sure how I would react if someone came up to me and started telling me things about myself, but for the most part the people in the video seem to have taken it in good stride. What do you guys think? Makes you think, doesn’t it?

Twitter Quietly Removes Option To Direct Messaging Anyone

Twitter Quietly Removes Option To Direct Messaging Anyone

Just last month, Twitter announced it would make it possible for anyone to send a user of their service a direct message as long as you’re following them. This idea is certainly a departure from the current method of direct messaging, which requires both parties to follow one another. The new feature was said to be slowly rolled out and accessed through a user’s settings, although it looks like Twitter has put the kibosh on this option. (more…)

‘Selfie’ Becomes The Word Of The Year For 2013

Selfie Becomes The Word Of The Year For 2013

A number of questionable “words” were added to the Oxford Dictionaries earlier this year, which included phablet, bitcoin and twerk. One word that we’re sure many of you groaned at its inclusion was the word “selfie.” Well – prepare to groan a little bit more as Oxford Dictionaries has announced selfie has been named the word of the year. Facebook Quietly Testing Out New Chat Feature

Facebook Quietly Testing Out New Chat FeatureIf you have been wondering what’s up with your Facebook chat feature today, it turns out that the issues you’re experiencing is not on your end, but rather on Facebook’s end as the company has recently announced that they are testing out a new chat feature. This chat feature, in case you have not noticed, will now display whether the user is on the web version of Facebook, or if they’re online via the Facebook Messenger app.

We’re not sure if we’re feeling these changes as the status indicators have typically been more than sufficient at determining if your friends are online or not. However if you’d rather be able to distinguish between chatting with a friend on the app or the web, then perhaps this recent change to the chat feature might be of interest to you.

While Facebook has yet to make an official announcement of the upcoming changes to the chat function, the social networking giant has reassured the public that they will be issuing a full statement once the feature has been finalized and has made its way across the majority of their users. In the meantime for those who are now experiencing the new chat feature, what do you guys think? Do you prefer this style or the previous format?

Yahoo To Encrypt All Data Flowing Between Its Data Centers By Q1, 2014

Yahoo To Encrypt All Data Flowing Between Its Data Centers By Q1, 2014

Over the past few months the world has gained considerable insight into the clandestine data collection operations of the National Security Agency, courtesy of former CIA analyst Edward Snowden. A number of major companies were named in those leaked top secret documents, companies such as Facebook, Google, Microsoft, Yahoo and more. A cache of documents recently leaked by Snowden alleged that the NSA is capable of tapping into Google and Yahoo’s data centers without the companies knowing about it. Today, Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer reiterated what she has said multiple times in the past, that “Yahoo has never given access to our data centers to the NSA or to any other government agency. Ever.”

Mayer also announced that Yahoo will encrypt all data flowing between its data centers by the end of Q1, 2014 and it will also offer users the option to encrypt data from to and from Yahoo servers. The company will also work with its international mail partners to make sure that Yahoo co-branded email accounts are https-enabled. The move comes after Yahoo’s recent announcement of adding 2048-bit SSL encryption across its email network by January 8, 2014. It can’t be said for sure though if these steps will make your data NSA proof, the agency is rumored to have the capability to passively decrypt data that’s SSL-protected.

Google Proactively Fighting Child Pornography Search Results

Google Proactively Fighting Child Pornography Search Results

Google is taking a proactive approach to filtering out search results for the sexual abuse of underage children as they’ve announced they’re teaming up with Microsoft to completely rid its service from these kinds of search results. Eric Schmidt announced Google’s initiative to the British press earlier today as the company has hired a team of 200 Google employees to come up with a solution over the past three months, which resulted in a total of 100,000 potential queries from being removed. Cooking For Bae Is A Hilarious Instagram Collection Of The Worst Food Photos

While Instagram was designed for people to share photos with each other, it has also become a mecca for people to post photos of their food, and to be honest it does get a bit overwhelming at times. For the most part a lot of the photos are somewhat decent, and while they probably won’t be hung in national art galleries or taken on photo tours around the world anytime soon, they are decent. On the flipside there are some who have absolutely no clue about what they’re doing and that’s what Cooking For Bae is doing, which is taking the worst possible photos of food ever Instagrammed, and “regramming” it (which is basically posting it on Instagram again under their own account).

The end result (pictured above) is pretty hilarious. Granted not all of us are Michelin-starred chefs, but we’re sure we are still able to tell a good photo from a bad one, right? Either way if you’d like to check out the rest of the photos, you will be able to do so by following Cooking For Bae’s Instagram account. What do you guys think? Have any of you been guilty of posting horrible Instagram photos?
