Microsoft’s Anime-Inspired Internet Explorer Ad Is Fun To Watch

While Microsoft’s earlier Windows Phone ads were pretty hilarious, their recent ones weren’t that memorable, and while we’re not sure what their latest Internet Explorer ad has anything to do with the browser, at the very least it is fun to watch. Microsoft has recently debuted a new Internet Explorer ad and instead of going the typical tech-related ad style, Microsoft has opted for a short anime-styled ad to promote its browser. The anime stars freedom fighter, Inori Aizawa who is found running away from these killer robots, who manage to finally surround her. Just when you thought that all hope was lost, Aizawa activates her pendant, transforming her, placing an Internet Explorer pin in her hair and giving her super powers which we can’t help but be reminded of anime much like Sailor Moon.

While the ad does not actually promote IE in anyway, save for the IE-logo which doubles as a pin for Aizawa’s hair, if we had to read in between the lines, perhaps the killer robots could be seen as the competition. At one point Aizawa even throws up a shield which could be symbolic of how IE will be able to block threats against the user, such as malware and unwanted ads and popups, and with the destruction of the robots, perhaps it could be seen as Microsoft attempting to destroy the competition once and for all. Maybe we’re reading too much into this, but if you’re a fan of symbolism perhaps you might agree. In any case if you have a few minutes to spare, you can check out Microsoft’s anime-inspired ad in the video above!

    Facebook Redesigns Its Like Button

Facebook users will most likely be able to recognize the social network’s “Like” button, which has been implemented in a number of websites, ours included, as a way for you to show your support for a story, website or a service. The “Like” button was first introduced back in 2010, and has since not seen much change, but that all changes today as Facebook is debuting a new version of its Like button. (more…)

Twitter Sees 500,000 Job Postings Published A Month, Expected To Rise To 2 Million

Twitter Sees 500,000 Job Postings Published A Month, Expected To Rise To 2 MillionLinkedIn is considered by many to be one of the social networks that professionals turn to for job recruitment purposes as well as networking with other professionals for other reasons, but it seems that Twitter is giving LinkedIn a run for its money as recent stats have shown that job ads posted on Twitter have been on a rise. This is according to recruiting company, Gozaik, who has found that on average, there have been about 500,000 job postings posted on Twitter on a monthly basis, with job postings for sales positions being the most popular at 25% of the tweets, followed by IT and other technology jobs, and surprisingly even medical/dental listings account for 15% of those tweets.

Speaking  to the folks at VentureBeat, Gozaik’s co-founder, Joe Budzienski says, “They are recruiting surgeons on Twitter and top-notch oncologists — many roles you don’t even see on LinkedIn […] There are a lot of professionals on Twitter who blog and tweet about the medical field, so therefore you get lots of announcements coming out in the hopes that these individuals will see them.” At the rate this is going, Gozaik estimates that it shouldn’t be too long before these job postings on Twitter will hit 2 million posts a month! Assuming this happens, we expect Twitter will soon start to leverage this rise in popularity and perhaps help make a way to allow people to search and post jobs more effectively.

Justin Bieber Invests In New Teen Focused Social Network

Justin Bieber Invests In New Teen Focused Social Network

Justin Bieber is certainly no stranger to the internet, he certainly owes his success to it. After being discovered on YouTube, the singer songwriter made it big. He has now decided to put money into an upcoming social network that’s primarily focused on teens. Called Shots Of Me, the social network is developed by brothers John and Sam Shahidi, who previously developed popular social mobile games under the RockLive brand. Bieber has led a $1.1 million seed funding round for Shots Of Me, other investors include boxer Floyd Mayweather, VC Shervin Pishevar and angel investor Tom McInerney.

Shots Of Me CEO John Shahidi tells Fortune that they got to know the popular singer after he started playing their games and tweeting about his progress. Apparently Bieber has been involved in their products and have even helped them out by testing and providing feedback. Shahidi says that Bieber’s “eyes just lit up” when they told him that they were creating a social network for teens that tries to deal with things like cyber-bullying. Shahidi says that the new social network isn’t focused on gaming, but doesn’t divulge any further details as Shots Of Me is due to go live in the App Store later this week. It remains to be seen just how much Bieber’s attachment with this social network will help it, because apart from the money, a tweet from Bieber’s 46 million follower strong Twitter account is likely to generate a generous amount of signups.

    Google Helpouts Launched

While Google Hangout is great for chatting with groups of friends or holding a video conference, what if you needed some expert help on something? While there are plenty of tutorials on a variety of topics available online, there’s nothing quite like face-to-face feedback and that’s where Google Helpouts come in. The service was pegged for a launch on the 5th of November and sure enough it has since been launched. For those unfamiliar, Google Helpouts is like Google Hangouts, with the main difference being that Helpouts will include “experts” on a variety of topics that will be able to help you out for free or charge you for their time, in which you can be charged using Google Wallet where Google will take a cut of 20%.

Once you are done with your Helpout, you can then leave a rating and a review, thereby informing future users as to whether that particular expert is good or not. The service is also expected to launch as a HIPAA-compliant and secure product for health care professionals. It is also not expected to offer adult content, but inappropriate content can be reported and with parties having the ability to block one another. Google Helpout will launch in English and French in the UK, Ireland, US, and Canada and will start by offering a handful of categories before expanding, depending on how users respond to it.
