H&M U.S. Online Store Launched

H&M U.S. Online Store Launched

Swedish retailer H&M, which so happens to be the second largest clothing retailer in the world, today launched its online store for the U.S. It has more than 300 brick and mortar retail stores in the U.S., the retailer has offered the facility of online shopping in a few European countries, it has now finally gone through with the plans of launching an online store in the U.S. The entire H&M catalog will be available online, so you can purchase whatever you desire from the comfort of your own home.

H&M has taken a different approach in this particular business. Unlike its competitors such as Amazon’s clothing department or Zara, the retailer is not offering free shipping. Instead, it will charge a flat $5.95 shipping fee regardless of how many items are purchased. Since customers aren’t allowed to return items at their local H&M retail store, like Zara allows its customers, the $5.95 shipping fee will contain a prepaid return label as well. H&M had twice planned on launching its U.S. online store, once back in 2011, the third time has evidently been the charm.

Pinterest Will Now Notify Users Of Price Drops On Pinned Products

Pinterest Will Now Notify Users Of Price Drops On Pinned Products

Today Pinterest announced that it is rolling out a new feature which will notify users when prices of items they have pinned goes down. It was back in May when Pinterest allowed users to see the current price of pins from a select group of websites. Users could view the price whenever they wanted to, but they wouldn’t know if the price was dropped without notice. From now on, Pinterest will send an email to users who have a specific item pinned, as soon as there’s a price drop.

There’s no action required from the user. They don’t have to fill in a form or sign up for this feature. Pinterest will automatically keep a check on the prices of the items that users have pinned. Price drop notifications will be grouped in to a single email so as to not clutter a user’s inbox, users have the ability to adjust settings related to email notifications as well. Pinterest says that it is gradually rolling out the feature, so it might take a while before every user has access to the new feature.

Motorola Connect and Migrate tools arrive ahead of Moto X event

Motorola Connect for Moto X hits Chrome Web Store early, lets you check calls and texts from the web

We thought we knew virtually everything there was to know about the Moto X ahead of its launch later today, but Motorola apparently has a few surprises left — or rather, had. The company has quietly posted two tools that are clearly targeted at users of its upcoming flagship. Motorola Connect, a Chrome extension, lets those with a Moto X or a new Droid phone handle their incoming calls and text messages through web notifications. Motorola Migrate, in turn, is built to ease the pain of moving to a new Motorola phone — the Android app lets users transfer media, text messages and other content that Google doesn’t necessarily store in the cloud. We’ll no doubt hear more about Connect and Migrate at the Moto X unveiling, but those who want to get a first-hand look can download both utilities at the source links.

Nintendo to enable eShop game purchases via PCs and smartphones

Currently, if you want to buy that hot new Super Mario Bros game your coworkers have been talking about, you need to wait until you could get home, power up your Wii U, launch eShop and then purchase it. That long process could become much shorter, however, if Nintendo follows through on a recent report from NicoNico (translated by Siliconera) that it plans to open up eShop access to PCs and smartphones as well. Dan Adelman, Nintendo’s Business Development Manager, confirmed with Joystiq that users would be able to log on to eShop remotely, buy the game, set it up for download and it’ll be right there on their console when they get home. Hopefully this update arrives prior to October, so that Link fans among us can get a head start on downloading that new Zelda game before everyone else.

XKeyscore Is NSA’s “Widest Reaching” Program For Collecting Data Online

XKeyscore Is NSAs Widest Reaching Program For Collecting Data Online

By now you might have heard of NSA’s data collection programs. The leaks started over a month ago when a former CIA technical analyst, Edward Snowden, leaked documents pertaining to NSA’s PRISM program. We then saw documents related to NSA’s Boundless Informant tool. Snowden has now leaked a cache of documents about yet another program of the National Security Agency, a program that allows it to collect “nearly everything” an individual does on the internet. The program is called XKeyscore, and according to an alleged NSA document, its the agency’s “widest reaching” program.

Facebook Introduces Embedded Posts

Facebook Introduces Embedded Posts

Facebook today introduced embedded posts, a new feature that allows people to bring the public stories they find compelling on the world’s biggest social network to their own blog or website. Embedded posts may contain pictures, hashtags, videos as well as other content. People who view the embedded post on a user’s blog or website will be able to like it or share it directly from the embed itself.

To get an idea of how this would work, take a look at the screenshot of a post that was published by Andy Murray on Facebook after winning the 2013 Wimbledon Championship. If this particular post is embedded by someone on their website or blog, visitors landing on that particular page would be able to like this post from there. If the post contains hashtags, they can be clicked within the embed to discover similar content on Facebook. Right now, a handful of media organizations are being given the ability to embed public Facebook posts. These include the Huffington Post, Bleacher Report and PEOPLE. Facebook says that broader availability of this feature is coming soon.

Thomson Reuters Twitter Account Gets Hacked

Thomson Reuters Twitter Account Gets Hacked

Thomson Reuters is a well known and respected media firm. Unfortunately, they too have been victim of a cyberattack. Over the past few months Twitter accounts of various media outlets have been hacked, including that of the Associated Press. On Monday, the Thomson Reuters Twitter account was suspended after it had been hacked and a series of tweets containing political cartoons were posted. It is believed that the notorious Syrian Electronic Army is behind this hack.

The SEA was in the news just last week, after it hacked Viber’s database and defaced their website. They have been involved in hacking Twitter accounts of prominent media outlets in the past as well. However, their own Twitter feed doesn’t mention that they hacked @thomsonreuters, its unorthodox because the SEA takes to its Twitter feed to let everyone who what activity they’ve successfully completed. As of now the Thomson Reuters account stands suspended, a company spokesperson has said that they are investigating the hack. SEA’s MO includes widespread phishing attacks through e-mail, it is likely that someone at Thomson Reuters accidentally fell victim to an e-mail phishing attack.

Man In UK Arrested After Rape Threats Made On Twitter

Man In UK Arrested After Rape Threats Made On TwitterThreats to kill or rape someone is something that should never be taken lightly, and it seems that recently in the UK, a 21-year old man from Manchester has been arrested after posting rapes threats on Twitter. The threats were directed at a certain Caroline Criado-Perez who led the charge to get more female faces on England’s bank notes, and recently was successful in getting Pride and Prejudice author, Jane Austen, on a new £10 note that would enter circulation in 2017. Personally we don’t see what the big deal was, but apparently there were many who weren’t too thrilled about it, leading to many tweeting death and rape threats on her Twitter account.

In fact it seems it got so bad to the point where Criado-Perez received about 50 rape threats in an hour! The arrest was confirmed by a Scotland Yard spokesperson who was quoted as saying, “A 21-year-old man has today been arrested in the Manchester area on suspicion of harassment offences. […] The arrest is in connection with an allegation of malicious communications received by officers in Camden on Thursday, July 25.” In light of this recent verbal abuse, Criado-Perez’s followers have set up a petition in which they ask Twitter to create a “report abuse” button for the web version of their service, in which Twitter claims will be rolled out “soon”.
