Google+ Hangout To Get New Screen Capture Feature

Google+ Hangout To Get New Screen Capture FeatureTaking a screenshot is a relatively simple process and without any software, a screenshot can be captured simply by hitting the Print Screen button on your keyboard, launching an image editing program like Paint and pressing Paste. Mac users have it easier with the built-in screen capture command by pressing CMD + Shift + 3 or 4. In any case it looks like Google plans to make capturing screenshots much easier, especially during your Google+ Hangout sessions with friends or family where you want to retain those precious moments.

Dubbed Hangouts Capture, it’s basically a button that when pressed allows you to capture a screenshot of your Hangout session. On top of that, the photo will be saved to an album that will only be available to those in your Hangout. More details of the Hangout Capture feature can be found on Jeremy Ng’s Google+ page, and according to Ng the feature will be rolling out worldwide in the near future, so keep an eye out for it! In the meantime we guess Print Screen will just have to do!

Yahoo May Buy Controlling Stake In Dailymotion

According to latest reports Yahoo is in talks to purchase a controlling stake in video website Dailymotion. The information has been received from people familiar with the matter. If this is true, it would be the first acquisition that Yahoo makes under the leadership of Marissa Mayer, who took the reigns as CEO after coming over from Google. Yahoo is reportedly going to purchase a 75% stake in Dailymotion, a site supposedly worth around $300 million. Though the deal hasn’t been finalized yet, Yahoo might be able to purchase the entire site in the future. Naturally, both Yahoo and Dailymotion have not commented on the status, or even existence, of this deal. (more…)

Google Adds Animated Filter In Image Search For GIFs

GIFs are very popular on the internet. They have been around for over two decades and don’t seem to be going anywhere any time soon. They’re short and often hilarious animations used by an insane amount of people. Many actually have their own GIF collection that they’re very proud of. Google announced today that it has now added the Animated filter in image search. This will allow users to filter image search results for GIFs. Its simple, but very useful indeed.

They’ve also added another filter that allows users to search for clipart with transparent background. This will also prove to be quite useful, all users have to do when searching for clipart is to select the Transparent filter from the Any color dropdown box. These new filters greatly improve the search experience for GIFs and background free cliparts. Google has just made the announcement right now, the filters have yet to be rolled out in image search. Though I hardly suspect that it will take a lot of time. So how many of you are going to substantially increase your GIF collection once these filters roll out?

Pinterest redesign shows pins related by creator and activity, stokes curiosity

Pinterest redesign shows pins related by creator and popularity

Going on a Pinterest spree isn’t always easy — not when there’s been extra work involved in exploring someone else’s board, or figuring out what else is similar. The company may have licked both of those problems with a redesign that’s exiting its testing phase today. As of now, visiting a pin will show others from the same board or company, as well as items that fellow explorers have pinned alongside the one you’re viewing. Lower-profile changes are in store as well: the pin content itself is bigger, and the site will finally remember your place when you step back from a curious click. Web-based Pinterest fans should soon get an invitation to use the discovery-friendly revamp, while the Android and iOS apps will eventually see the new tricks through updates.

Facebook Testing Silent Updates For Its Android App

Facebook Testing Silent Updates For Its Android App

It appears that Facebook is currently testing a way that circumvents Google Play Store for getting updates of the social network’s Android app. Dubbed ‘silent updates’, they install in the background when the Android device is connected to a Wi-Fi network. This means that users don’t get a notification that a new Facebook app update is available for download from Google Play Store. Instead the update is automatically downloaded and then the user is prompted to install said update. Users who have received these silent updates for the Facebook Android app say that the prompts for installing a silent update are persistent and don’t go away until the update is actually installed. Google Maps Captures The Most Famous Mountains On Earth

Google Maps has been going beyond simply mapping streets lately as they’ve been able to map NFL stadiums and the Grand Canyon earlier this year. You would think that would be enough to earn a pat on the back from the majority of the tech world, but Google is announcing they’re taking Google Maps where most people haven’t gone before: mountains.

Google Maps now allows you to explore a number of the most famous mountains on Earth, which includes Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa, Aconcagua in South America and Mount Elbrus in Europe. Each of these mountains belong to a group of peaks known as the Seven Summits, which means they’re the highest mountain on each of the seven continents. (more…)

Google Drive Experiencing Ongoing Service Disruption

Google Drive Experiencing Ongoing Service Disruption

We’re not sure what’s been up with tech companies and their inability to allow users who rely on their suite of cloud-based services to get any work done to continually function properly as just a few weeks ago, Apple’s iCloud experienced issues for hours, and today Google’s Drive has been reportedly having issues.

Fortunately, it seems the outages are intermittent and won’t affect all Google Drive users at this time, but a number of users are reporting being unable to access particular folders, while at the same time, being able to access other folders without experiencing any issues at all. Some other users are having completely no issues with their Google Drive, but instead are having issues signing in with their Google Apps account. The last of the users aren’t even able to access Google Drive entirely as they get a “502 error” for an extended period of time. (more…)
