Google Explains Why Google Maps Is Inaccessible On Windows Phone OS

microsoft google Google Explains Why Google Maps Is Inaccessible On Windows Phone OSThere was a report earlier today that a few Windows Phone users were banned by Google from using the web version of its Google Maps app. And from what we are hearing, the issue seems to be affecting a wide number Windows Phone devices. The report originated from one of the forums of fellow tech site The Verge, and Google caught wind of it immediately. Google was quick to respond, and issued a statement to saying, “The mobile web version of Google Maps is optimized for WebKit browsers such as Chrome and Safari. However, since Internet Explorer is not a WebKit browser, Windows Phone devices are not able to access Google Maps for the mobile web.” (more…)

Facebook Adds Voice Messages to Messenger App; VoIP Calls Being Tested In Canada

facebook voice messaging Facebook Adds Voice Messages to Messenger App; VoIP Calls Being Tested In CanadaFacebook has been implementing the ideas of popular applications to its suite of apps, even going as far as to create its own Facebook Poke app that is pretty much its own version of Snapchat. Today’s update to its Facebook Messenger app is no different as the update rolling out to its iOS and Android application will make it possible for Facebook users to leave short voice messages to one another, similar to what Voxer and HeyTell do.

In addition, Facebook is allowing its Canadian users to make VoIP calls to one another through its Messenger application for free as long as they’re connected to a Wi-Fi or cellular data connection, which means pretty much anywhere. The VoIP calls feature is currently only being tested in Canada, but could be rolled out to more countries if it proves to be successful.

There’s no doubt both features are steps in the right direction for allowing Facebook users communicate the way they want to, especially if they’re unable to write back wherever they are. We’re just hoping they prove more successful than Facebook Poke as we still can’t see a viable reason for anyone to want to send self-destructive messages that doesn’t involve extreme naughtiness.

eBay Tests Services To Help Sell Your Stuff By Picking It Up

eBay Tests Services To Help Sell Your Stuff By Picking It Up

Looking around my office, I can see at least twenty things that I would be completely fine with selling on eBay. The thing is, I’m completely lazy and will only put them up for sale when I am bored out of my mind and have absolutely nothing better to do. Going through the process of listing items on eBay, finding a box to ship your item out in and actually going to the post office will probably keep many people from putting stuff up for sale any time soon. But eBay is testing out a new service that could potentially get a ton of customers to use the service who are too lazy to bother with it.

The new service eBay is testing out has users hiring an assistant who can take inventory, pick up and sell the items you want to get rid of on your behalf. The assistant will choose the price to sell the items and will take a 25 percent cut once the sales are complete. If your item doesn’t sell, you can either donate it or have the assistant return it to you, although we’re not sure why there isn’t an option to just put it up for sale again.

eBay also tested out another service where they set up a kiosk in the mall and had potential sellers drop off their bags of valuables off. eBay reps would go through the bags, determine a value and then either offer a price for the entire bag to be payed out via PayPal or the seller could list their items on eBay with the rep’s assistance.

Google interactive resolution map new years 2013 640x329 Google Launches Interactive Map To Help You Keep Your New Years Resolutions

2013 is just starting, which means many of you made some New Year’s resolutions across a number of categories like finding love, getting fit or learning something new every day. While it’s only January 3rd, we’re sure a number of you are already dreading another day of your New Year’s resolution and are thinking about going back to your old ways and trying again next year. Google doesn’t want you to give up, though, and is supplying its users with a tool to help keep their New Year’s resolution going strong.

Google launched an interactive resolutions map that allows users to submit their resolution across a number of categories. You have two options when visiting the site: submit your own resolution for the world to see while tagging your zip code and country, or you can sit back and witness all of the other resolutions people have submitted.

From our short time with the application, we saw a number of submissions for people who wanted to lose weight, find love and even some who wanted to become cancer-free this year. We’re sure if you have a resolution you’d want to stick to this year, this would be a great way to share it with the world and try to stick to it as best you can.

Plex updates arrive for Windows 8 app, web client and media server

The busy developers behind the Plex media server / client system have rung in 2013 with a slew of updates, this time targeting the company’s native Windows 8 app, the Plex/Web interface and also the server software itself. On Windows 8, it’s added audio/subtitle stream selection, universal search (seen above), some UI tweaks and more. On the web access front it’s sporting retina-ready graphics, the ability to upload custom posters and some Flash video player fixes, among other tweaks. Finally, to make all this go (you’ll need to update it to connect to the new Windows 8 app, as our own Sean Cooper found out) the media server gains a series of fixes, plus a speed boost on some DLNA streaming, searching for music by album and the necessary backend fixes to support Plex/Web’s poster upload feature. More improvements are promised later this year, for now just hit the source link for the full list of changes, or check for an update on your platform of choice.

As you know, Exchange ActiveSync or EAS is a protocol that is designed to sync email, contacts, calendar, tasks, and notes from a messaging server to a mobile device.
