Facebook’s First Ever Ad Gets a Hilarious Toilet-Themed Parody

It’s no secret that Facebook’s not doing so hot ever since they went public. The social network recently hit 1 billion users and to keep their numbers up (and perhaps to try making Facebook more relevant?), they recently released their first ever ad.

facebook parody

Oddly, the ad highlights how Facebook is like a chair. I kid you not. The ad talks about chairs and comes across as one of those artsy-fartsy videos that force you to come to some deep realization at the very end. Throw in doorbells, airplanes, and bridges, and that’s the ad for you in a nutshell.

Here’s the original Facebook ad, in case you haven’t seen it yet:

There’s only one mention of Facebook in the commercial, and the site isn’t featured even once, although that’s understandable considering this is a branding ad. However, the ad leaves a lot of room for ridicule and that’s the route that a lot of people did since it came out. One parody likens Facebook to toilets – you’ll have to check out the clip below to find out why. (Warning: Language NSFW)

Trekkie Dating Website Hooks Up Trekkies With their Soulmates

There are a lot of dating sites on the web but none like Trekkie Dating. I think you can pretty much tell what the site is about and who it’s for based from its name alone.

trekkie datingIf you haven’t much luck on other dating sites because the people you met there just weren’t into Star Trek, then it seems like your prayers might have just been answered with Trekkie Dating. It’s a dating community that’s geared towards helping Trekkies meet other like-minded Trekkies.

Never mind where they’re from or what they look like, as long as they love Star Trek as much as you do, right? And that’s spoken like a true Trekkie.

OKCupid Wants to Match You With a Roommate You Bone Once and Never Speak to Again [Websites]

One time I went on an OKCupid date with a guy who ordered hot wings, licked his fingers, and wiped a fountain of sweat off his forehead with a paper napkin. Needless to say, I never went out with him again. It was a very dark time. And if you’re at an equally low point with your living situation, the people over at the most desperate dating site on the internet want to match you with your next roommate. More »

Vevo’s website redesign simplifies the video watch page, adds artist pages

Vevo's website redesign simplifies the video watch page, adds artist pages

Chances are you’ve enjoyed Vevo’s music video catalogue in one form or another, and purists who prefer .com access are being rewarded today with a fresh website design. The “video watch page” was previously littered with related clips, a playlist and other distractions, which have now been dispatched for greater focus on the tune at hand. Much of this has been moved to “artist pages”, a new pop-up hub (pictured above) which is full of extra info on your chosen act. Head over to Vevo to see the enhancements for yourself, and with impending OUYA support, you might want to consider it your primary dispensary for that daily dose of Biebzilla.

Google Plays Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon, Solves Everything. Showoff.

Think you’re good at Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon? Google dares you to challenge its search engine. All you have to do is type an actor’s name and then “bacon number” (without the quotes) and the all-knowing box spits out the answer.

google bacon number

I even tried non-American actors and it still wasn’t fazed. Attempting to introduce a loop won’t make it hang either:

As if YouTube wasn’t enough of a time sink already. Thanks Google.

Grooveshark circles back again, swaps app for HTML5

Grooveshark circles back again, swaps app for HTML5

It’s hard to keep up with whether Grooveshark is in the Google Play store, or out again, but now it doesn’t matter. The music streaming service has decided to ditch its yo-yoing app, and instead opt for a flashy new HTML5 website for all devices. It’s gone live in the US with an international launch “in the coming months”, although this London-based editor didn’t have any trouble using it. If you’ve been missing your favorites list, then jump over to Grooveshark.com and get listening — after all, you might see it disappear again soon if a fresh lawsuit from EMI has any impact.

Tech 101: When and Why You Should Buy Refurbished Electronics

Refurbished Electronics

A lot of people say that refurbished goods aren’t for them. The reason for that is they have misconceptions on the quality, durability, and functionality of refurbished items. But the fact of the matter is this: just because it’s been ‘fixed up’ or ‘repaired’ doesn’t mean that it won’t last long.

Google+ offers custom URLs for verified accounts, other profiles to come ‘over time’

Google offers custom URLs for verified accounts, other profiles to come 'over time'

Do you happen to be David Beckham or Toyota? Well, congratulations — you now have a Google+ vanity URL. The rest of us looking for the football star or car manufacturer need only type “google.com/+davidbeckham” or “google.com/+toyota” to reach those respective pages, enabling easy access to that must-see picture in front of a private jet, or a vehicle recall notice. Sadly, you’re probably not eligible for a custom shortcut of your own — here’s the word from Google:

At first, we’re introducing custom URLs to a limited number of verified profiles and pages. But over time we plan to offer custom URLs to many more brands and individuals, so please stay tuned!

So, for now, you better get comfy with “plus.google.com/108326689306432447266,” or whatever the good Goog has granted.
