Pixar Engagement Ring Boxes: Will You Animate Me?

Pixar fans who want to tie the knot really should have something like these awesome engagement ring boxes to help seal the deal. You want to make sure they say yes after all – and every little bit helps. You can’t ask a girl to marry based on just your dashing good looks and knowledge of every Star Trek episode, right?

These awesome custom engagement ring boxes were made by TheModelMaker to look like WALL-E, the house from UP (sans balloons), and a toy chest from Toy Story 3.

Star Wars Spaceship Wedding Invites: Run to the Altar in Under 12 Parsecs

Do you normally just throw wedding invitations out as you laugh and call the bride and groom suckers? Well, you wouldn’t throw these wedding invitations away. After all, they come with starships. Who’s the sucker now?

There’s probably no better day for Star Wars fans to get married than May the 4th. It was the perfect day for Homer Liwag. You probably remember the Indiana Jones engagement ring and the Star Wars wedding band he created. So of course, for his own wedding, he created some amazing invitations.

Each invitation comes in a little black box that holds a miniature Star Wars ship attached to an invitation that initially read only “Take Off.” Once the recipient took off the lid, the full invitation and a tiny spaceship was revealed. Now, that is classy.

This Guy Proposed to His Girlfriend with a Drone

When I think of romantic, when I think of heartwarming, when I think of being sweet… I don’t think of drones. But if I think of awesome and if I think of kickass and if I think of freaking cool… I do think of drones. So guy who used a flying drone to drop off the ring while you proposed, you’re awesome. Steampunk AT-AT Walker: The Ultimate Engagement Gift

What do you get your fiancee when you are both Star Wars fans? Well, you could get her a boxed set of movies, but a steampunk AT-AT is an even better idea. Too bad it doesn’t actually spew smoke. That’s just some clever Photoshopping.

Broken Journalist made this awesome AT-AT to give to his fiance as an engagement present and thereby assaulted her cold Hoth heart. I’m sure her heart is fine, but it never hurts to present an amazing gift to the one you love.

It actually started out as a vintage AT-AT toy. I love the patina on this thing, which took a bunch of coats of paint to create. You gotta love that widow’s walk on top too.

Dunkin Donut Wedding Cake: The Cheapest, Best-est Wedding Cake Ever

The wedding cake business is a racket. When my wife and I got married, I seem to remember the extravagant wedding cake cost something like 2,000 smackeroos. And while it looked beautiful, it actually didn’t taste that great. It certainly didn’t taste as good as a glazed donut, but I’m a simple man with simple needs when it comes to my sweets. Now, there’s finally a wedding cake for the rest of us.

Dunkin Donuts Bahamas worked with the Swiss Pastry Shop to create this epic wedding cake using carefully stacked piles of their glazed donuts, and it’s just perfect. Not only does it eliminate the need for slicing the cake and getting that messy frosting all over the bride and groom, but I’m sure it cost way less than a traditional wedding cake.

Sure there’s still a regular white cake on the top, but the little donut couple on top excuses them from their digression from the donut theme. And while this particular cake was made by professional pastry chefs, you could probably accomplish something pretty similar with a few dozen from your local donut shop.

Now, how to work Munchkins into the design…

Marry Me: A Pictionary Proposal

Geeks have proven, time and time again, that they’re an extremely creative bunch, especially when it comes to wedding proposals. From fake iPads to custom video game level proposals, to Kinder Surprise proposals, geek guys and girls have gone the extra mile to surprise his or her significant other with the proposal of a lifetime.

This Pictionary proposal is simplistic at best, but that doesn’t make it any less awesome or endearing.

Pictionary Proposal

Here’s how it went down: Reddit user justmli had decided to pop the question and he decided to do it on Pictionary game night. He went through the pile of cards, found one with ‘Marry’ on it, and stenciled in the word ‘Me’ after it. He then rigged the game so that his girlfriend of a year and a half would end up with it.

Sure enough, when she drew the card, everyone began guessing, and eventually he yelled out, “Marry me!” After his girlfriend replied with “Yeah!”, he then pulled out the ring and asked her to marry him.

Needless to say, she said yes.

Internet Proxy Weddings On The Rise

Internet Proxy Weddings On The Rise

My wife and I will soon be celebrating our one-year wedding anniversary next month, and one of the last things we both would have considered would be to get hitched through a webcam, or better known as a proxy wedding. But apparently this method of matrimony is increasing in both its frequency and controversy.

According to a story published by The New York Times, proxy weddings have brought up the questions of immigrant marriage fraud and legitimate consent. Online marriages are currently completely legal and proxy weddings are in no way a completely new idea, but the issue seems to be if both parties are completely consenting to the marriage. (more…)

Cylon Engagement Ring: By Your Command

When you meet your girlfriend at a Battlestar Galactica party, you better have something special lined up for an engagement ring when you eventually propose to her. I mean, really lay some cubits out and show her how special she is. That’s what happened with Disturbedrobot, so he decided to propose with a ring that looks like a Cylon.

He took the gold and diamonds from his grandmother’s ring and had his sketches modeled in Maya. After that, it was reforged by jewelry craftsperson Craig Elliott into this lovely ring. His fiancé is a lucky lady and now this guy has made it tougher for the rest of us men by raising the geek bar so high.

Geeky Wedding Invitations Adorned with Circuit Boards and Blinking LEDs

Wedding invitations don’t get any geekier than this. Bill Porter and his fiance Mara really wanted to come up with invitations that popped and screamed geek all the way. With their wedding theme being ‘Circuits and Swirls,’ the power couple put their heads together to come up with DIY invitations that involved circuit boards and embedded LED lights.

led circuit wedding invitationsLike most couples, Bill and Mara’s main constraints were time and money, but they were able to get the job done – and by that, we mean all of 50 wedding invitations – by being resourceful and smart about it.

Each invitation had a battery and several blinking LEDs built into it which were controlled by a microcontroller. They embedded a light sensor into each invitation as well, which signaled the LEDs to light up when the invitation was opened.

The coolest part? When the light level detected by the sensor falls below a certain limit, a secret Morse code message is flashed for the guest to figure out.

Bill detailed how the invites were conceptualized and made on his blog, which you can check out right here.
