Beard My Baby 2.0 App: Because Every Baby Needs a Beard

So not every baby needs to look like ZZ Top, but it’s fun to see them plastered with a huge beard on their faces. Not with a real mustache, of course, because they’ll probably tug at it with a vengeance, but with a virtual mustache added digitally to their photos using the soon-to-be-released Beard My Baby 2.0 app.

Beard my BabyEnd infant beardlessness in your household by signing up to get the app when it hits.

It’s a novelty app that you’ll probably use a couple of times at the beginning and eventually forget about, but hey, by that time, your baby will probably be all grown up and have grown some actual facial hair of his (or her?) own.

You can get the app by making a pledge of $1 on Beard My Baby’s Kickstarter page by February 5, 2013. Pledge $25 or more to get a stylin’ shirt along with the app.

Kyosho EGG Sugoi R/C Bots Clean up Your Mess While You Sit on Your Lazy Ass

Oh, how I love wacky Japanese gadgets. And how I hate cleaning. So when Francesco over at Hobby Media[IT] tipped me off to these Japanese cleaning robots, I was just about in heaven.

kyosho dust garbage robots

These inexpensive robots from Kyosho don’t aim to be as sophisticated as something like a Roomba or Wall-E, but then they don’t cost hundreds of dollars either. The Sugoi remote control vehicles come in two versions – one that’s a dust mop, and the other is a trash bin on wheels. Both can be driven around using an included RF remote control, so you can clean without getting your lazy behind up off the couch. In case you need a visual explanation, check them out in the video below:

What’s not to like? I can imagine sitting on the sofa during the big game, and with a push of the button, in pops my R/C garbage can, ready to receive my empties. Unfortunately, I won’t be able to get these in time to clean up my mess after this year’s Super Bowl, since they’re currently only for sale in Japan.

You can find the garbage can here, and the dust mop here. They each sell for ¥2079 (~$21 USD), and you can try and see if someone like White Rabbit Express can import them for you. While you’re at it, you might want to pick up one of these.

Dell Project Ophelia PC on a USB Stick: Any OS, Anywhere

Dell Wyse – the cloud computing company acquired by Dell in May 2012 – may soon be entering its bet on the emerging PC on a stick genre. While the previous examples of these flash drive computers we’ve seen use Android as their primary operating system, Dell’s product will also run on Android, but will give customers the freedom to choose from different OSes to actually use.

dell ophelia cloud usb pc image by quartz

Currently known as “Project Ophelia,” the computer is meant to be used mainly as a gateway to Dell Wyse’s cloud services. According to Quartz, “It allows access to Windows, Mac OS, Google’s Chrome OS, Dell’s custom cloud solutions, Citrix cloud software, and even Google’s Chrome OS, using virtual instances of those operating systems running in the cloud.” The PC will plug into (and draw power from) a display via USB. Then it will connect to Dell Wyse’s servers via Wi-Fi and to hardware peripherals via Bluetooth.

Dell’s vice president of cloud operations Tarkan Maner said that they’re planning to sell Ophelia for only $50 (USD) each, though he didn’t mention how much the cloud services would cost. That’s probably where they’ll generate most of their revenue.

From a tech support perspective, this could make it a lot easier to secure and manage a large number of computers. But I wonder if it also poses a risk of data theft, disconnection or lack of access on a massive scale should things go wrong. It also takes away a lot of control from the user in return for the convenience it provides. Either way, it’s too early to see what kind of effect Ophelia may have on the PC industry.

Google Says It Didn’t Kill a Donkey with a Street View Car in Botswana

Sometimes truth really is stranger than fiction. We’ve seen some odd photos turn up on Google Street view over the years. My personal favorite was the little girl who played dead on the side of the road as the Street View car rolled by. A donkey has now played a very similar game with a Street View car in Botswana.

street view donkey

To make this an even stranger story, it started to go viral after a tweet from the account of fictional character Dr. Sheldon Cooper saying that “I think Google Street view ran over a donkey in Botswana.” The story gained enough traction the Google has had to come out and offer up an official explanation of the circumstances surrounding the downed donkey.

Google says that because of the way its 360-degree imagery is put together it appeared as though it’s Street View car cruising down a dirt road in Botswana had run over the poor creature. Google says that in fact the donkey was laying down and taking a dirt bath as the car approached, and then stood up and moved to the side of the road as the vehicle drove by.

Having known someone who rear-ended a cow, and assuming running over a donkey would work basically the same way as running over a cow, I can say without a doubt that there would have been donkey poo all over the front of the Street View car had an impact actually taken place. If you’re curious, the rear-ended cow survived with nothing more than an significantly cleaner colon after the impact. Sadly, the same can’t be said for the vehicle.

Woman Posts a Half-Naked Pic on eBay: This is Why You Check Your Images Before Uploading

Like most people who have something they don’t need anymore, Aimi Jones decided to put a yellow skater dress she had up for auction on eBay. She didn’t bother to check the pictures she took of the dress until after she posted the listing – and that’s when she spotted her humiliating mistake.

ebay auction yellow dressIn one of the listing’s photos, Aimi can clearly be seen in the reflection of her mirror, taking a picture of the dress wherein she was wearing nothing more than a bra. In other words, she was buck naked from the waist down. She quickly ended the listing, but it was still up and viewable online.

Sure enough, some eagle-eyed shoppers spotted Aimi’s listing and the rest is history: it went viral. eBay has since taken down the listing and sellers worldwide have learned an important lesson from this – always check your images before uploading them. You’ll never be able to hit the “undo” key on the entire internet.

Here’s Aimi with her infamous yellow dress, fully-clothed now.

Website Turns Dirty Pics into ‘Safe For Work’ Images (SFW?)

It didn’t take long to realize that one thing most guys have in common – regardless of their age, status, nationality, or occupation – is a universal love for porn. It sounds pretty gross, but I’ll just chalk that desire up to hormones and to the fact that that’s just how they were made.

So for the guys out there who feel like they aren’t getting their regular fill of the stuff (and for the women who like it, too), here’s some good news: you can now check out some adult content at work, thanks to PornSFW.com, which features women (and some men) in various poses that are actually safe for work!

How is that even possible? Here’s how:

Porn SFW8

See what they did there? It’s pretty hilarious, mostly because of the paint overlays. This is probably the first (and only time) I’ll find porn funny. The site hosts a collection of images similar to the one above, showing women in the usual porn poses that have been modified to make them viewable for people of all ages, anytime, anywhere.

Granted, you’ll have to use your imagination if you’re actually using the site at work to, well, you know. But for the rest of us, it’s just some unusual fun to be had from a very unlikely source.

Meet Beautiful Existence, the Woman Who’ll Be Living on Starbucks for a Full Year

Before anything else, yes, her name is Beautiful Existence, and yes, she might not have a very beautiful existence if she goes through with her challenge of chowing down on nothing but Starbucks food for a year.

I’m not saying Starbucks doesn’t serve stellar sandwiches, donuts, or coffee, because they do. Heck, I love their hot chocolate to pieces and it’s a drink I turn to when I’m feeling particularly down or homesick (when I’m away for work.)

Starbucks Lady

However, living only on Starbucks food for a year doesn’t sound appealing, even to a fan like me. Beautiful isn’t being sponsored by Starbucks or any other company, and if you do the math, she’ll be spending close to $7,000 the whole year due to this ‘resolution.’

Beautiful explains her motivation behind the challenge: “The company pays good benefits for part-time workers. That’s where my money is going… We’re really lucky and I would say actually spoiled as Americans because we have all these different eating options…You go to all these other countries and they don’t have these luxuries. Really? Is it really going to be that hard for one year of my life to limit my menu? We’ll find out.”

Sounds like a plan but I wonder what this is going to do to her health? We all saw what happened to that guy who ate nothing but McDonald’s for one month (remember Morgan Spurlock and his Super Size Me documentary?)

All I can say is… Good luck, Beautiful!

Who Needs Real Friends, When You Can Rent Fake Ones?

Life gets a whole easier if you have good friends by your side. By that I mean real friends, not fake ones that you can now rent for a fee from companies like Client Partners [JP].

Friends for FireThe firm is based in Japan and offers ‘friend’ rental services to the lonely, bored, or curious. While it might sound pretty sad for the rest of us who were able to make friends and keep them without having to pay them for their time, the service is apparently a godsend for those who aren’t able to do so themselves.

As proof of that, here’s a testimony from one happy client who rented two female ‘friends’ to go out with him:

Last summer, one lonely 25 year-old named Kouichi (not his real name) rented two female friends to go to a dance club for ¥30,000 (~$341 USD). For a part time worker like Kouichi, that’s a hefty fee. But he ended up having a great time.

“There’s a feeling of security when you are accepted unconditionally,” Kouichi said, adding it was better to pay for friends than getting rejected.

To each their own, I suppose.

iPotty for iPad: iPeed and Then iPooped

I have a son and a daughter and I can say easily that my son was harder to potty train than my daughter. My son would runaround and pee on anything and everything from the dog, the door, the neighbor (true story), to our houseplants. But, he refused to pee in the toilet. We tried everything from putting Cheerios in the bowl to screaming and cursing and right before we were ready to change his name to R. Kelly, he finally started using the toilet.

Considering how kids love tablets, had the iPad been around eight or nine years ago, I would have absolutely purchased the iPotty.

ipotty1

It’s a little toddler toilet that has a holder allowing you to put your iPad on the front of the toilet. The idea is that fun iPad apps will lure your little one to sit on the throne and play while they tinkle or drop a stinky load.

CTA Digital says the iPotty toilet will be available in March via Amazon.com for a mere $39.99 (USD) – tablet not included, of course. Parents of little boys should be warned that they can and will pee EVERYWHERE (seriously, I mean everywhere.) They say the holder is splashproof, but you’ll want to check it out before you buy one, as your AppleCare warranty definitely doesn’t cover urine damage.

Mojito Heels: Don’t Drink and Design!

I’ve seen a lot of weird shoes in the past few years. Remember the Scary/Beautiful shoes that looked more scary than beautiful, and the pimp shoes with fish tanks in them? But I think none are quite as strange or interesting as Julian Hakes’ Mojito heels.

Mojito Shoe1Hakes’ design went viral back in 2009 when he posted a concept that garnered widespread attention. His design explored the idea of how a shoe would look like if it were thought of as a bridge was certainly strange, but as you very well know, strange is ‘in’ and considered all sorts of awesome these days.

Models wrote asking for his shoes, blogs covered his design, and almost everyone was wondering the same thing: could it be turned into a reality? The answer is yes, and it has been a reality, for a couple of years now.

mojito shoes

The design looks extremely uncomfortable, but then again, looks can be deceiving. A variety of colors are available for purchase online, with each pair costing between £125 – £175 (~$201 to $283 USD).
