WhatsApp Finally Receives iOS 7 Update

WhatsApp Finally Receives iOS 7 UpdateWhatsApp has been released on iOS for several years now, but for some reason the developers behind the company have taken a long time to issue out major updates. For example when the iPhone 5 was first released, it took them several months before the app was compatible with the phone, and now with iOS 7, it’s taken WhatsApp a couple of months but the good news for iOS 7 users is that the update has since been released. The app now features a design that seems to be more or less in line with iOS 7’s flatter and cleaner interface.

Apart from the visual overall, the update also brings about additional features and changes. This includes a new icon, improved share locations with 3D map view, new notification alerts and sounds, and also larger thumbnails when sending videos and photos. Prior to today’s release, the app was seen in photos and videos, suggesting that the update was imminent, but no timeframe was given for its release. According to the latest figures, WhatsApp is apparently the most popular messaging service, overtaking Facebook’s own Messenger platform. In any case the update is available for download via the iTunes App Store, so what are you waiting for?

On Device: WhatsApp Overtakes Facebook, Is Leading Mobile Messaging Service Now

On Device: WhatsApp Overtakes Facebook, Is Leading Mobile Messaging Service NowWhen it comes to the world of mobile messaging, you can be sure that it is not short of any kind of competition at all. In fact, this particular market has gotten so competitive, you could say that us consumers have ended up for the better. After all, the companies involved in mobile messaging intend to deliver the best bang for our hard earned buck, so they had better deliver the best possible effort. Some of the mobile messaging options include proprietary solutions such as iMessage, in addition to cross-platform solutions including Facebook, WhatsApp, Hangouts, BlackBerry Messenger, Snapchat, Skype, Line, and WeChat, among others.

On Device has performed a survey that comprised of 3,759 Android and iOS smartphone owners across US, Brazil, South Africa, Indonesia, and China, and they concluded that WhatsApp is more popular than Facebook now, making it the numero uno mobile messaging platform. Do bear in mind that there were no Windows Phone users mentioned in the survey, not forgetting the fact that the whole European continent is missing from the survey. Apart from that, the question that was posed read like this, “Which social messaging app do you use at least once a week?”, so it does not have anything to do with the frequency of use or number of messages processed. In your opinion, who would come up tops?

WhatsApp For iOS 7 Caught On Video

WhatsApp is undoubtedly one of the most popular messaging platforms around at the moment, and while it made its initial debut on iOS devices, surprisingly the company has yet to release an update that would bring the app in line with the look and feel of Apple’s iOS 7, which sports a cleaner, flatter, and more minimal look, instead choosing to update the app for other platforms instead. WhatsApp users might also recall how long it took the company to release an updated app for the iPhone 5’s larger display. (more…)

WhatsApp For Nokia Asha 501 Released

WhatsApp For Nokia Asha 501 Released

Its no secret that instant messaging applications have become quite popular than texting, because while the latter incurs charges, IM apps allow users to send messages around the world for virtually no cost at all. WhatsApp is one of the most widely used IM applications out there, and it is available for a number of platforms. Originally announced at Nokia World 2013 in Abu Dhabi, WhatsApp for Nokia Asha 501 has been released today.

Before users can install the app, they will need to install an over-the-air software update that starts rolling out this week. Without first installing the update WhatsApp for Asha 501 can not be downloaded on the device. When users log in for the first time, the app will automatically locate contacts who’re already using WhatsApp. The app can be used to send text messages, photos and videos as well as voice messages. Messages are either routed through the 2G cellular connection or through Wi-Fi. The app is available as a free download for Nokia Asha 501. The Asha 500, 502 and 503 phones, which were recently announced, will have WhatsApp pre-installed when they start selling in the coming weeks. The app opens up a whole new communication channel for Asha users, who will be able to communicate with friends and family even if they are on different phones made by different manufacturers.

WhatsApp For iOS 7 Screenshots Leaked

WhatsApp For iOS 7 Screenshots LeakedWith iOS 7 having been released for a couple of weeks now, there are still apps out there whose developers have yet to release an update to make their apps compatible with iOS 7, not just under the hood, but visually as well. Popular messaging app WhatsApp has yet to release an update and they seem to be taking a while, just like they did when they finally released an update that made it compatible with the iPhone 5’s display In any case WhatsApp users will be pleased to know that the developers are working on an update, thanks to a handful of leaked screenshots courtesy of developer @HackiPhone.

The screenshots are allegedly two weeks ago so there’s no telling if there have been additional changes made since then. As you can see in the screenshots, the app has been visually “flattened” to look more cohesive with iOS 7’s overall look and feel, and presumably the app’s icon will be given the same treatment as well. No word on when WhatsApp will release the update, but @HackiPhone said that we can look forward to it “soon”. What do you guys think? Are you digging the new WhatsApp look?

WhatsApp Rolls Out Push-To-Talk Voice Messaging

WhatsApp Rolls Out Push To Talk Voice Messaging

It was back in June when WhatsApp announced that it had a truly global user base of 250 million people. Today it announced that the figure has swelled up to 300 million, with 20 million users each in India, Spain, Mexico and Germany. So it goes without saying that WhatsApp is perhaps the most popular cross platform messaging service out there. Some 11 billion messages are sent and around 20 billion are received every single day, Jan Koum the co-founder and CEO reveals that the service handles around 325 million photos every day as well. They’ve introduced a new feature which will make it even easier to communicate with your friends and family through WhatsApp. The service now allows you to send voice messages in real time.

Koum said that this feature was developed over the last six months. This push-to-talk voice messaging feature has been rolled out for WhatsApp apps for iPhone, Android, Nokia, Windows Phone and BlackBerry. Sending a voice message is very easy, just tap and hold the microphone icon to record, release the button to send it. There’s no time limit for the recording and the app will automatically switch volume from the speaker when the device is held at arm’s length to soft when the user presses their device to their ear. Like it lets senders see when their message has been seen, a blue microphone icon will inform senders when their voice message has been heard.

WhatsApp voice messaging updated with one-press record-and-send feature

    DNP Whatsapp intros voice messaging

These days, you don’t even have to ring someone, listen to their spiel and wait for a beep when you can just use apps to send voice snippets. WhatsApp, which recently reached 300 million users, has made its existing experience even easier with a new feature that lets you record and send voice memos with one press of the mic icon. A WhatsApp spokesperson told Engadget that the company has “spent a lot of time refining [voice messaging] and made it really simple to use.”

As a testament to this, WhatsApp has now removed length limits for recorded messages and plays audio within the app instead of opening a media player. Playback will automatically switch from a handset’s speakers to its earpiece when the device is held to your ear, and the mic icon will turn blue when recipients have listened to spoken missives. With the new perks available on the mess of platforms WhatsApp calls home (iOS, Android, Windows Phone, BB10 and Nokia Symbian / S40), we bet everyone with that chatty friend are shaking in their boots.

WhatsApp expands its business model to iOS, will cost users 99 cents per year

WhatsApp expands its business model to iOS, will cost users 99 cents per year

Even though the WhatsApp iPhone application received an update yesterday, the popular messaging service made it official in a blog post today, detailing notes from the latest release. What’s especially interesting here, however, is that WhatsApp is bringing a familiar cost scheme over to Apple’s platform. Essentially, iOS users can download the app free of charge, but they will now have to pay a 99-cent yearly fee after the first twelve months of using it — a business model similar to the one WhatsApp already implements on Android, BlackBerry and Windows Phone. Hey, it’s still but a small price to pay to somewhat fashionably keep tabs on all your amigos 24/7, eh?
