Back in the day, many, many years ago, Winamp used to be the go-to media player one used when they wanted to listen to music, such as CDs, MP3s, and etc. However fast forward to today, it’s safe to say that the Winamp brand might have been left by the wayside in favor of more modern media players, such as iTunes which is an all-in-one solution when it comes to syncing iOS devices, purchasing songs, games, apps, videos, and etc. In any case it looks like after 15 years, Winamp will officially be shutting down. There is no word on why Winamp is shutting down, but like we said, its popularity has fallen by the wayside and we guess all good things will eventually come to an end.
According to a post on its website, it reads, “Winamp.com and associated web services will no longer be available past December 20, 2013. Additionally, Winamp Media players will no longer be available for download. Please download the latest version before that date.” Winamp was originally developed by Nullsoft back in 1997 before it was taken over by AOL, so for those who would like to own a piece of legacy software before it is finally taken offline, now’s your chance, although given that this is the internet we’re sure you will still be able to find copies of it way after its “expiration date”.
