Microsoft confirms Flash vulnerability fix for Internet Explorer 10 coming soon

Microsoft confirms Flash vulnerability fix for Internet Explorer 10 coming soon

Microsoft has just announced that it will be providing security patches for the Windows 8 IE10-specific version of Flash, despite the software giant initially suggesting it wouldn’t. The patch will be available “shortly,” and hints at a return to the update cycles of old. More significantly, as ZDNet points out, unless Microsoft coordinates these releases with Adobe, there could be a constant cycle of IE10 being vulnerable in the future. On a positive note, the fix should be released before Windows 8 goes prime time, but for those who jumped on board early, you might want to keep one eye locked on the update page, and get it when it lands.

Agawi cloud game streaming headed to Windows 8, focused on ‘mid-core and hardcore’ games

Agawi cloudbased game streaming headed to Windows 8, focused on 'midcore and hardcore titles'

Cloud streaming provider Agawi (formerly “iSwifter“) is making a second major push with its cloud-based game streaming service alongside Windows 8 this October. Beyond the social content it already brings to the iPad — “more than 12,000” Facebook games — Agawi’s second run at streaming is more focused on what it calls “mid-core” and “hardcore” games. But what does that mean? Executive chairman Peter Relan says “mid-core” means “web-based MMOs with a PC download,” versus PC downloads representing the “hardcore.” The example video (below the break) shows Agawi working with a variety of games, though none of the titles in the video confirm potential content partners for the service (Relan teases a fourth quarter reveal of more news). And today, Agawi announced its collaboration with Microsoft Azure, resulting in cloud game streaming across the world of Windows 8 — tablets, PCs, and even its phones.

“Popular AAA games will be made available in the coming months for instant play on Windows 8 devices with no additional work required by developers,” the launch PR promises. Input methods for games vary dramatically by platform, and we’ve already seen what happens when you shove tablet-based touch controls onto a console/PC game (it ain’t pretty). “That’s a publisher decision,” Relan says. “We support the idea of d-pads on the tablet itself. We support pure touch gesture on the tablet. We support point-and-click on the screen — touch and tap. We support swipe for scrolling. We support a full controller, like an Xbox console controller,” he adds.

32 Microsoft Retail Stores Will Invade America for the Holidays [Microsoft]

When Microsoft starts selling its Windows 8 Surface tablets next month, it’ll be at a major retail disadvantage to Apple. Unlike its arch-nemesis, Microsoft doesn’t have 275 branded stores for consumers to line up outside of in anticipation of new products. Microsoft is hoping to tip the scales at least a little bit with a smattering of pop-up retail stores across the country and in Canada. More »

HP ENVY 20 and ENVY 23 All-In-One Computers

In addition to its leading Spectre One, HP is refreshing its all-in-one (AIO) computers for Windows 8 with the HP Envy 20 ($799), Envy 23 ($999) and Pavilion 20 desktop machines. Both computers come with a touch screen (10-point multi-touch), and are completely Windows 8 ready (reminder: Windows 8 comes out on Oct 26).

HP did not go into the technical details as it may still tweak the final configurations, but you can expect the 3rd generation of Intel core processors, up to 3TB of storage and SSD options for those who want the fastest storage system. (more…)

HP SpectreONE all-in-one PC brings trackpad-centric experience to Windows 8

If there were one PC we’ve seen thus far from the HP collection bringing on Windows 8 with touchscreen capabilities that we’d call the king, it’d be the HP SpectreONE. This machine is the most expensive of the all-in-one designs HP is offering up here at the start of the Windows 8 generation of PCs, and with its 23-inch flush glass display and 3rd generation Intel Core processor options, not to mention it’s lovely and sleek looking body, there’s no stopping it. This device will not, on the other hand, be launching with the rest of the October wave of devices – it’s coming in November.

You’ll find that this beast keeps the Spectre brand name hot with NFC technology to tap your devices together and share media wirelessly and utterly simply. You’ve got many of the same features the rest of this newest HP wave of machines have such as Beats Audio for enhanced sound. And HP Connected Remote, Photo, and Music are included as well – HP is presenting an experience here both in hardware and software, with HP technology making a unique experience for you both outside and in.

You’ll get the computer itself along with a wireless multi-touch touchpad and a keyboard inside the box. With what may very well be a giant step forward for how we use PCs in general, HP has opted out of including a wireless mouse in the package you’ll be getting when you purchase the HP SpectreONE. The true test is at hand – can we bring the desktop world into the universe our notebook-loving hands have been working with for quite a few years already?

UPDATE: HP informs us that there WILL be a mouse in the package now. Good for you traditionalists!

HP might be taking a gamble here – even if it is a tiny one. If you want a mouse, you can buy one for next to nothing, after all – even a wireless mouse doesn’t cost a pretty penny if you know where to look. However, it’s the thought that counts. HP has thrown the mouse out the window here, and with it goes the last component that did not look flat. Now with the HP SpectreONE, HP can present a package that is, indeed, working with basically all flat hardware – and you’re going to love it.

This beast will be appearing on November 14th for a starting price of $1,299 USD MSRP – that’s an expected price and release date, of course, we’ll have to wait a bit longer for the final word on that. You can start saving up now though, no harm in that! Have a peek at our HP tag portal to see the rest of HP’s new Windows 8 machine offerings from start to finish – great stuff on the horizon!

HP ENVY 20 and 23 TouchSmart All-in-one PCs bring Windows 8 to the masses

This week we’re seeing another wave of wonderful computers presented by HP for the start of the Windows 8 era, working here with brand new HP ENVY 20 TouchSmart and 23 TouchSmart, both of them all-in-one PCs with full touchscreen capabilities. Inside you’ll find 3rd Generation Intel processors – that’s Ivy Bridge, mind you – along with Beats Audio and HP TrueVision webcam technology as well. These devices will bring you the power of the next generation of Windows-toting machines will keeping it all compact in HP’s newest all-in-one designs.

These units come in 20 or 23-inch flush-glass displays that bring 10-point touch touchscreen capability to you and yours. This set of computers are right in the middle of HP’s next-level all-in-one lineup, with the HP Pavilion 10 all-in-one PC sitting below them in price and the HP SpectreONE coming forward as the hero of this generation – top class! The ENVY 20 and ENVY 23 TouchSmart PCs act as a perfect in-between with price and power reflected in their made-for-everyone packages.

These computers come with HP Connected Remote, Photo, Music, and Backup and bring the full Windows 8 experience in late October. That’s right around the time that Windows 8 is currently expected to be unleashed upon the earth, with every manufacturer in the field shooting off every different concoction of hardware they can muster with only the best of the best ready to shine through. With the HP ENVY TouchSmart PCs you see here, HP is more than ready to take on the general public with smooth, simple designs and all-in-one greatness for everybody.

The HP ENVY 23 TouchSmart all-in-one PC will be appearing for what’s expected to be $1099 USD MSRP. The HP ENVY 20 TouchSmart all-in-one PC will be appearing for an expected $849 USD MSRP. Both computers are scheduled now for the end of October here in the United States at all of your favorite HP sales outlets.

HP Pavilion 20 AIO PC brings Windows 8 touchscreen at $499

If you want to get in on the Windows 8 universe with one of the first touchscreen PCs in the world to feature said software out of the box but don’t want to spend a pretty penny to get it, the HP Pavilion 20 All-in-One PC might be just the ticket for you. This machine includes a wireless keyboard and mouse in the box and will be appearing on the 23rd of October for just $499. And while that price shocks your mind, making you think that no high-class AIO could possible be that cheap, have a peek at its features here and now, starting with a choice of Intel or AMD processor right out of the box!

You’ll be working with HP Connected Remote and Photo for your perfectly tuned control of videos, music, and photo slideshows. You’ll do this from the PC itself or from a connected smartphone or tablet – wirelessly, of course. This machine has a slim design not unlike what we’ve seen from HP earlier this year in their all-in-one lineup across the board. HP has taken a lovely minimalistic approach to their all-in-one designs this season, and it’s continuing on to Windows 8!

This HP Pavilion 20 all-in-one machine will be bringing you a simple set of components that do not sacrifice in overall performance. That is to say, do not sacrifice if you’re looking for an average everyday experience with your PC. If you want to do some hardcore video processing and next-level gaming all day and night long, you might want to ramp up a bit. For those of you that want an all-in-one experience that’s ready for media consuming and light workloads, this model may be your most awesome choice at the price it’s being offered.

This machine will be coming with options in many components, including – as mentioned – Intel Core or AMD processors as well as up to 2 terabytes of storage inside. You’ll be rolling out along with many other HP computers on the 23rd of October with Windows 8, and you’ll be doing it for right around $500 USD – that wont break the bank! Hit up our HP tag portal for more HP releases this week – Windows 8 ahoy!

HP Spectre One: Could This Be the Ideal All-In-One PC? [Computers]

When HP rolled its first TouchSmart All-In-One back in 2008, the potential of such a machine was evident even if the idea itself wasn’t fully realized. Enter the 23.6-inch HP Spectre One. Gone is the IR-based touch technology used in previous devices. In its place, a capacitive, multitouch panel. And no longer do we have to suffer through an OS not designed for fingers. Windows 8 is here, which at the very least elevates touch-based Windows devices from gimmick to usable. More »

Keep Windows 8 Tiles at Bay with RetroUI [Windows 8]

If you’re afraid of, or just annoyed by, the concept of Windows 8’s Metro (well formerly Metro, but whatever) UI style, there’s a handy way around it. RetroUI is a program that will take users directly to the Classic desktop after login, and even lock Metro away completely. More »
